Spliting & Selecting Cips After Automation

I am trying to split tracks into clips and copy & paste clips on the track after I have done some mix automation but once I've done some automation I can no longer split a track to copy  or move tracks.  Am I missing something here ?    Could use a little help with this. Thanks in advance

In the track view, left side of the track, there is the edit filter menu with "Clips", "Automation", "Clip Automation", etc.   After adding the automation,  did you select "Clips" in the  menu?  This allows the track/clips to be edited again.
