Midi writing from one track to another during recording

I just updated to the newest version and am having this odd issue where my MIDI from track 1 is writing to the MIDI of track 2 while trying to record despite track 2 being the one selected. Inputs are both set to my midi keyboard and outputs go to main so there should be no path writing on track 2 besides the keyboard itself. I never had this happen before so wondering what changed here and how I can turn it off

Hi Zer0Monk and welcome to the Cakewalk forums.

If you are recording to Track 1 and your MIDI is going to Track 2, it could be you have "Allow MIDI Recording without an Armed Track" selected under Perferences | MIDI | Playback and Recording | Record (first option).  Check that out and get back to us if you need further troubleshooting.

Also check if the soft synth you're using has "Enable MIDI Output" selected in its insert menu.
