Bob Oister
Very nice, John! Great tribute to the Jazz heroes of years gone by!? Excellent composition and playing, and clever work weaving the names in nicely with the lyrics, arrangement and the classic vintage video! Very cool song and video with a lot of legends mentioned! PS. Very sorry to hear about your pup in your Coffee House thread, I also know how pets can be like a real member of the family. I think I mentioned to Wookiee in one of his posts on the old forum when his dog died, that my first dog, that was a Christmas gift when I was eight years old, lived to the ripe old age of 17 1/2, and my next dog made it to over 13 years old. It's really nice that you still have her in your forum avatar! Anyway, great job on this song, and have a great day!? Bob

Johnbee58
Thanks, Bob. Regarding Ginger-I got a call from the vet's office today and they did something very kind. They made a plaster cast of her paw print in the shape of a heart. It's adorable. It's the perfect keepsake. I cried again when they gave it to me. I miss her so much.? Thanks Bjorn! ?JB

Beagle
Hey John B - love the piano and strings. looks like you've probably used NI, Miroslav for the sounds? really nice mix. piano especially sounds nice! I'm not a huge jazz fan, but this is definitely right in the jazz pocket!

Johnbee58
Thanks all who listened and commented. I've heard at least one person say that they haven't heard of every artist mentioned. I'll explain all here and provide links for as many as I can. Michael Franks-Smooth Jazz singer/songwriter. I love his writing but mostly the smooth way he sings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSSK4kVTxtE&list=PLtZCAN4FHsrlY73AwJzInU3Rz1a5ZbQ9M John Coltrane-Jazz saxophonist. "Giant Steps" is one of the most complicated pieces of music ever written-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30FTr6G53VU Cole Porter-A jazz composer who also was quite proficient in Classical-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WX_fKVWX2s Antonio Carlos Jobim-Brazilian composer and multi instrumentalist. Big hit of his was "The Girl From Ipanema" in the 60s. Also known for "Wave"-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6KDpB6skA4 Steely Dan-I think most of you here know who they are but for those who aren't sure-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bwHK1xkgJA Lionel Hampton-Vibraphonist from the Big Band era. This man could play with two mallets in each hand-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf0wHvU2EZQ Duke Ellington-another Big Band giant-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrytKuC3Z_o Frank Sinatra (ol' Blue Eyes) -another one I'm sure everybody's at least HEARD of-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onWf4_yl-pY Ray Charles-Black R&B & Pop artist. Also helped to popularize the "Boogie Woogie" genre. See the bio pic if you can. It's great!-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8Tiz6INF7I Joe Jackson-Not Michael's dad. THIS guy-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJwt2dxx9yg Miami Sound Machine-Gloria's sensational!!-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPOSGVUYgVQ Tower Of Power-Still going strong after 50 years. This was their first big hit in 1972-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exVwi9IhIik Dan Fogelberg-Big inspiration of mine. Sadly lost in 2007-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5x9_vsrKZo Les Paul-I could write a whole song about this guy. No doubt some of you play the guitar he designed. But he also showed us how to "lay it on down" by inventing the technique of multitrack recording-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJaNMZmBR6E George Martin-"The 5th Beatle." He not only laid down the Fab Four's best but innovated and pioneered many special effects we use and hear today-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpRvLdQ2jg8 I don't mean to insult anybody's intelligence. I'm sure most here at least heard of some of these people, but for the benefit of those who might not have, or don't know of one or two. ?John B Edited February 15, 2019 by Johnbee58
freddy j
This is a really great tribute John. I don't know how you managed to wordsmith all of those lyrics in there and get them to make perfect sense but --- well done. Kudos also on the video. Excellent job!
