demoing new drum kits - which kit?

so i've got superior drummer 3, and i'm demo'ing all the kits,
trying to whittle it down to just a couple of kits for my latest projects.

here's a song, recently posted, with two new kits dialed into each mix....
which one do you think works best for this song?

Love that main riff.

 

I'd vote for the middle funk kit, only because that snare in the "rock" kit is kind of 2-D and samey. Might be improved with some different processing. I think that "funk" snare is good to go.

Not a lot in it Bat, though as noted the funk kits snare seems to have more depth.

Just wondering what you think of the Pearl Default kit in the SD3 Core library. Probably doesn't fit your style of music, but it works great for me.

funk snare, check. wonder if the funk snare would work with the rest of the rock kit?

funk snare does have more body, that's for sure. i'm gonna try the funk snare in the rock kit, just to see.

i'll look at the pearl default, i can't remember which kits i've tried now, so i'll check that one out for sure.

Great song and demo.  I've been using SD3 for the past 6 months, and I keep coming back to the funk kits for their depth.  However, in you case, both versions rock!  It's like cooking, which spice do you prefer?

thanks lynn! i like the funk kits, but the rock kits have those great room sounds on them......
