Check your VST and VST 3 folders. There may be duplicate DLL's there, and Cubase will pick the first one over the second one...cancelling the second out.

No...there are three formats that can be installed VST - 64 bit VST3 - latest VST format used by Cubase AAX - 64 bit Pro Tools I believe Cubase only does VST3 now... So, if you didn't install the VST3 current version of the plugin - 4.91 VST3 then you won't see it, but will see the LAST VST3 Version that you installed, which is apparently 4.30. If you are using Cubase ALWAYS install the VST3 Version when installing.

I've noted that also. Why ask for a location in "preferences" if you are going to repeatedly ask for it upon update or install? Doesn't quiet make sense, other than to "know" what you have installed I guess

If you bought Modo Bass with Jampoints you can transfer it. To check, click on the "License" button under the product in your account. If it has the RED "Transfer" button then you can transfer it to your son-in-law. The only time that you can't transfer something is if you bought it with "Gear Credits", or if you received it free in a group buy, or it specified NFR when you purchased it.
