  1. UPDATE - SOLVED!!

I found the issue was the plug-in "ASIO Link Pro Tool" - which I had started using because -

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Cakewalk/comments/1lrvllc/cakewalk_two_keyboards_obs_studio_not_detecting/

However today I found uninstalling "ASIO Link Pro Tool" cured the intermittent drop-outs I was experiencing in Cakewalk

I googled - and found I wasn't the only one who had that issue -

    https://www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/nmoget/asio_link_pro_cutting_out/

I did NOT try the patch that fixes it - but am including the links for anyone who might need them -

    https://give.academy/ODeusASIOLinkProPatcher/

    and -

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq86UCOCz3I

However after fiddling with both Cakewalk AND OBS Studio - I managed to find a way to NOT use "ASIO Link Pro Tool" - and get OBS Studio to detect both of my keyboards (refer to my OP below ++++++++ for the chain of hardware) -

    Cakewalk -

EDIT - PREFERENCES  - PLAYBACK AND RECORDING - change "ASIO" to "WASAPI SHARED"

    OBS Studio -

    A)   For the Midi controller controlling the Behringer Pro 800 synth - with their output from the Fender guitar amp - create an AUDIO INPUT CAPTURE with the source "Device" being the Guitar amp

NOTE - my USB Audio interface needs to be switched on for the above trio to work together - although none of them need to be plugged into it

    B)   For the Yamaha keyboard controlling the VST plug-ins in Cakewalk - go to SETTINGS - AUDIO - and for "Desktop Audio" choose the Yamaha keyboard

    Original thread below

    ++++++++

My original post in this thread here -

    The issue -

    https://youtu.be/iGcLh3cz7cQ

    My set-up -

    A)   M-Audio midi controller (Oxygen Pro Mini) controls my Behringer Pro 800 synthesizer - both connected via USB to my PC - and the Pro 800 synth is connected to my Fender Mustang GT-40 guitar amp - no issues on Cakewalk with those three working together nicely

    - it is the top-most track "MIDI" in the video link

    B)   My Yamaha PSR EW-425 Arranger keyboard controls the other instruments

    - i.e. Kontakt "Komplete Kontrol"

    "Synth 1 Librarian" x 2

"RT 7070" Drum machine (which is a lovely free substitute for the Roland 707 Drum machine I found today)

For some reason - on Cakewalk the Audio as you will hear in the video cuts out for a few seconds every so often

(I've only activated the Drums here to make it easier to hear the Audio drops - but the same issue is with the instruments in "Komplete Kontrol" / and the Tones in "Synth 1")

I've googled for various fixes - none of which cure it

Also - I am using the "ASIO Link Pro Tool" as the ASIO driver - as without that "OBS Studio" doesn't detect the Audio from my Yamaha keyboard - and Cakewalk doesn't like "ASIO4ALL"

Any clues as to what might be causing that intermittent drop of Audio - and how to fix it?

Note - I am NOT using my M-Audio "M-Track Duo" USB Audio interface - as having that switched on causes Popping and Stuttering in "OBS Studio" recordings

    - so the Yamaha having its own ASIO Soundcard and Speakers is effectively the Audio interface

    Many thanks

Ok, I have the Oxygen Pro Mini controls working acceptably in Cakewalk now, as a result of further testing and changes to my initial setup outlined above. Main change: I did not define an ACT controller, only the "Mackie Control" included with Cakewalk.  I still notice a few anomalies, and I've only done this on an AMD Ryzen 7 4000 series laptop running Win 10, connected via USB. But I did achieve a repeatable setup process, throwing out all prior controller and midi device settings in the current version of Cakewalk by Bandlabs, and resetting the Pro Mini between setup iterations.

Here are the M-Audio Oxygen Pro Mini setup steps for Cakewalk by Bandlabs that worked reliably:

    1. Connect the Pro Mini via USB to the PC. Don't start Cakewalk yet.
    2. Set the Oxygen Pro Mini to Cubase mode:  a) toggle the DAW/Preset button so it is lighted; b) press and hold it  until DAW appears in the Pro Mini display; c) use the Encoder knob directly below the display to scroll to CUBASE, and then press down (click) the Encoder knob to set the Pro Mini to CUBASE mode.
    3. Start Cakewalk and select New Project >> (Basic or Blank project will do.)
    4. Go to Edit >> Preferences in Cakewalk, or press P on the computer keyboard to bring up the Preferences window.
    5. Select MIDI >> Devices.
    6. Under Input Drivers, check Oxygen Pro Mini and MIDIIN3 (Oxygen Pro Mini)
    7. Under Output Drivers, check Oxygen Pro Mini
    8. Click Apply. (Don't click OK yet.)
    9. Select MIDI >> Control Surfaces
    10. Click the yellow start button next to the red X button. In the popup window, click the Controller/Surface dropdown and select Mackie Control. Click the dropdown for Input Port and select MIDIIN3 (Oxygen Pro Mini). Click the dropdown for Output Port and select None.  Click OK to exit this popup window.
    11. Click Apply (just to be sure), and click OK to exit the Preferences window.
    12. Select Utilities >> Mackie Control.  It takes a moment to load.
    13. Under Protocol, select Mackie Control Universal (Cubase Mode) Click the X at top right of this popup to close it.

Testing the Oxygen Pro Mini setup in Cakewalk

    • In track mode in Cakewalk, select the Plugins tab from the Cakewalk Browser.  Find a VST2 or VST instrument. I suggest a Piano VST for this.
    • Drag and drop the instrument to the Track window; accept defaults and add it as a Simple Instrument track.
    • Click the small keyboard icon in the top left of the new track. The instrument control window will pop up.  (Many VSTs require you to load a program or preset in this popup in order to hear sounds. Some don't need this extra step.)
    • Play some keys on the keyboard. If you don't hear sounds, check the In/Out section of the vertical track window on the left. It may work as Omni, but if not, trying changing it to MIDIIN3 (Oxygen Pro Mini) in the Input dropdown.  The Output dropdown should be set to Master. If still no sound, be aware that some VST instruments use only a subset of the piano keyboard.
    • While you're looking at the vertical track control strip, right click on the channel fader.  Select Remote Control in the popup.  Select the Controller radio button.  Click the Learn button.  Now, on the Oxygen Pro Mini, move the first fader fully up and down once.  Click OK to exit the popup.  Now moving the physical slider on the Pro Mini should move the track fader in Cakewalk.
    • Again, in the Cakewalk track strip, right click the Pan control.  Select Remote Control, select the Controller radio button, click Learn, and now rotate the leftmost knob above the pads fully from stop to stop. Click OK.  now the leftmost physical knob on the Oxygen Pro Mini should move the Cakewalk channel pan left and right. This may require some "tuning" to get right.
    • Right click the fader in the Master channel next to the current instrument track.  Same steps as before, except when it's time to move a physical fader on the Pro Mini, move the rightmost fader once through it's highest and lowest levels.  The Master fader in Cakewalk should move with the righmost Pro Mini fader, and the leftmost Pro Mini fader should still move the Instrument track fader.

If this all works, if you have the Instrument's popup window open, and if you click the DAW/Preset button on the Pro Mini so that it is now not lighted, press and hold that button to bring up the Preset display on the Pro Mini.  Turn the Encoder knob, below the display, till you reach Preset 9. Click the Encoder knob down to select this user preset.  Once you have this, you should be able to assign some controls in the VST Instrument's control window to physical controls on the Oxygen Pro Mini.  When you have these as you like them, remember to save the Preset with the name "Preset 9" in Cakewalk.

I can't promise that this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.  If there's a better way, let me know.

WOW - I hope you are still reading this thread - I bought my Oxygen Pro Mini in June 2022 - and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to make Cakewalk interact with it - and all the detailed Youtube videos I watched didn't quite get me anywhere...but your revised instructions here seem to have nailed it!

I at first thought only one or two of the Faders worked - until I realised that the other 2 or 3 Faders need the others to be ABOVE ZERO for you to be able to hear what they all are doing

(i.e. if all of them are set to Zero - then it's likely adjusting just one of them won't let you hear what the others are capable of doing - so it's best to have them all AT LEAST slightly above Zero)

And likewise at first I thought only one of 4 knobs was working - until again I found the other 3 will do something under certain adjustments of MORE than just one of the knobs

I've now got the Oxygen Pro Mini attached to my Fender Mustang GT-40 guitar modelling amp (on which I've created a tone with guitar FX) - and the Oxygen is also connected to my new Behringer Pro-800 analogue synthesizer (on which I created a Preset) - so the 3 of them are working "together"

And my Yamaha PSR EW425 Arranger keyboard is connected to Cakewalk to play VST instruments with my other hand

THANK YOU for writing such a comprehensive list with all your own trials

I've also managed to get knowledge on the Arp shortcuts by watching this -

    https://youtu.be/CrDsi-SrKoU

    - although I still can't figure out how to get the Arp to play more than the "latest" 3 or 4 notes I press in a sequence of say 10 to 20 notes

    Thanks again :-)
