I had some corrupted tracks in older projects. They just wouldn't behave properly like volume levels, routing or some synths had issues. The solution I have found is to create a new track with the same synth or and virtual instrument, fx etc. (not duplicate but from fresh start). In extreme cases even creating new project and redo/copy everything. Still consider getting EZD 3, I have really no issues with it and use it in every project multiple times.

It's probably something to do with the graphic card. I use EZD 3 now only and converted old projects from EZD 2. Everything works better much more options and patterns and also visualizations rarely have any issues. It is absolutely worth the upgrade. I use a Sonar newest version as well I am not sure if you are using Cakewalk or Sonar. You might need to do the search for graphic card settings overlay etc. Best regards

Most important laptop specs for Cakewalk
veetek replied to jkoseattle's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I am very happy with Zenbook Pro Duo UX582ZW and have used it almost every day since purchased with no issues. Dual screen and lower position of keyboard, powerful processor, very quiet and reliable. After recent Sonar optimization works even better and smoother even with complex projects. -
Nu Sonar driver issue when using Discord
veetek replied to Resonant Serpent's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Maybe you are you running driver mode in Sonar WASAPI exclusive. Also check "suspend audio engine when Sonar not in focus". I only run ASIO mode but in WASAPI I have encountered similar issues. -
More about plugin window size in nuSonar
veetek replied to Steve Moddelmog's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Hi Steve, I have reported the issue with Izotope and few other plugins few months ago, no solution yet. I use Sonar now only in original low resolution ( no dpi awareness) and have no issue with over 1000 plugins including Izotope. Fonts seem to work better as well. Overall I am happy with new design but still waiting for developers to fix few things. Best regards. -
Thanks for excellent suggestions about deselecting. I just have assigned U to select none. Another way I deal with that is to create a tiny selection with right click lasso in empty space. Another good one in piano roll I use is Alt + F to Fit Content. Saves a lot of time when trying to see all the MIDI notes in particular place.

That is not what I accomplish here. Of course you can use full screen in the Sonar but any other plug-in windows opened will have annoying wide windows title bar. On my screen capture focus not on the Sonar background but rather the plugins that have reduced title bar size. In adobe premiere version for windows the only way you can get full screen is by using third party plugin like Windows borderless gaming app etc.
-
No matter what version of windows I have always disliked the size of the basic title bar on the top. It is annoying especially when you have multiple windows opened in Sonar or other software. I changed the default setting using Winaero Tweaker a long time ago. Once you install and open the tweaker just search for Window Title Bars and change it to 17px or whatever you prefer. Everything looks much better and more contemporary plus saves screen space. I hope it helps and best regards! Veetek

Great, I'm happy it inspired you. I really like Sonar for it's flexibility with shortcuts and the panels available with single keys.
-
Thank you, it really helps if you don't use the actions. StreamDeck under my foot is my favorite and allows me to close my eyes and record 100 takes if needed. ?
-
Definitely, I use so many single key shortcuts that almost ran out of keyboard. Still have few left though, I keep testing and improving, thank you for all the suggestions.

I hope you will find useful my keyboard shortcuts designed for fast workflow. Some of them will overwrite the defaults but you can always revert it. Global A - Views - Inspector I - Aim Assist O - Virtual Controller Q - Quantize Y - Save U - Select none V - Show/hide Bus Pane X - Set all selected tracks to muted status Z - Solo all selected tracks 0 - Open a new piano view 1 - Undo last action 2 - Record 3 - Set all selected tracks to armed status 4 - Go to previous marker 5 - Go to start of this measure or start of prior measure 6 - Go to end of this measure or end of next measure 7 - Go to next marker 8 - Open the console view 9 - View the synth rack ` - Stop Ctrl + Q - Groove Quantize Ctrl + ` - Run/stop audio engine Ctrl + Tab - Hide tracks not in selection Ctrl + Shift + Tab - Unhide all tracks Alt + A - Show/hide arranger track Alt + M - Open markers view Alt + S - Slide events Alt + W - Quit application Ctr + Shift + S - Save the active document with a new name Piano Roll View Alt + F - Fit content \ - Show/hide track pane [ - Zoom out horizontal ] - Zoom in horizontal : - Zoom in vertically ' - Zoom out verically / - Use controller pane Track View - Zoom out horizontal = Zoom in horizontal Alt + D - Delete Track(s) For example sequence `12 will stop, undo and start recording again for another take. I use StreamDeck for that under my foot but if I don't have it around it is a very quick solution without creating actions. Quick saving project with Y will save your time from using modifiers. V next to B to show bus pane or browser view next to each other, A for inspector since it is on the left and I don't use arranger track. X and Z for for muting or soloing tracks I always divide the project with markers so I can move very quickly using 4, 5, 6, 7 (top row) which makes sense if you move between measures or markers. Save a lot of time on your focus in another virtual instrument or simply move quickly between recording takes or sections of the song. Attached to this post you will find keyboard shortcut file, I hope you will find it helpful and let me know if you have any questions or recommendations from your experience. I think we just need to be patient and let the developers work on it. I personally for efficiency reasons prefer simpler graphics so I can work faster and I don't have to spend time deciphering knobs positions with fancy graphics behind shadows and hidden numbers. Speed is essential for me. Talking about that soon I will publish here on the forum at list of keyboard shortcuts that I have customized over many years for very efficient and fast workflow. I will publish the export so you will be able to download the file with keyboard shortcuts and import it to Sonar. I have been working on ergonomics of this program for many years and I hope this will help many users here.

Decent light headphones that can help prevent room noise
veetek replied to Sven's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The only model of the headphones that I currently use for recording, mixing and mastering is Neumann NDH 20. They are not the lightest but have extremely comfortable memory foam cushions that have excellent sound insulating properties. In my opinion they are the best, most accurate and still pleasant to listen headphones for all the professional audio needs. You will find that many mixing and mastering engineers use them more often than reference speakers. I have sold all my high quality studio reference speakers and wall treatments. My recording, mixing and mastering have improved dramatically since I started working only on headphones. I still sometimes use speaker emulations by Waves from Chris Lord Algae or Nashville for quick checks. They translate extremely well for any sound outputs once you get used to them. I would not trade them back for any kind of studio speakers or any other headphones. Once you get used to working on them you will establish a reference point for rest of your life and you can easily travel with them and still accomplish all the professional work. In few decades of my music career I have not found a better reference audio device yet. I would say that it has been the the most valuable addition to my studio in many years. Let me know if you have any questions, best regards. -
Tip for Vertical Scrolling with Mouse Wheel
veetek replied to Melschu's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I love the fact that you can scroll through hundreds of tracks vertically very quickly while holding shift it saves a lot of time. If you want to scroll normally just use the mouse without any modifiers. When you're in track view and position mouse over the tracks you can scroll left and right with the control key and speed it up with control + shift . To deselect selections in the track view just right click and lasso in empty space even tiny amount lasso will deselect everything else. This one saves plenty of time if you work with multiple selections etc. -
The developers have some priorities since the EQ is the most used of all Pro Channel modules. At least in my workflow I mostly use Pro Channel EQ mainly for for high or low pass filtering before it goes to the 3rd party plugins. The other modules don't need much improved design since they have pretty simple controls. I have been using Cakewalk products for over 30 years and I like the direction it is going since it does speed up the workflow and readability. Going for vintage analog look slows you down since every device has different graphics so your eye will start wondering and finding the parameters and knobs instead of focusing on the value of the particular parameter Which is the most important aspect beside just simply listening and dialing the value. Since I have been working consistently for decades many hours a day using this software I have discovered that it is much easier to have a dark theme with contrasting and simplified graphics which allows your eyes to rest and find the correct setting quickly. I have tried all the other professional DAWs (you name it) and I have not found anything better for me yet. I grew up on reel to reel, tapes and all the analog gear. Still I prefer the simplification and the focus on the sound instead of getting into elaborate emulation of graphics from the past. The flexibility of Cakewalk and ability to assign shortcuts to almost anything you see on the screen plus assigning the mute solo and other buttons to different groups interacting with each other sometimes in opposite way makes it a winning combination. Another very important feature for me is ability to record multiple takes in a variety of ways, sound on sound, override, comping, very intelligent design and still extremely flexible. The layout and design still surpasses what I see on the market today which allows me to work on music quickly and get my ideas down without struggling through basic issues. I really appreciate that there is still somebody developing and improving this software and I hope it will be here for a long time. I have paid $150 for a year and I will be happy to continue as long as developers keep working on it. As I have mentioned before I don't use much of the modules or plugins included with Sonar so mainly I treat it as a host for hundreds of 3rd party plugins which allows me to customize the workflow. I keep it in VST3 format as much as possible. Laptop with Intel I9 12 generation works seamlessly and handles every project even with mastering plugins on the master bus. I mostly use Steinberg UR242 4 which replaced 24 channel interfaces I used before, since now I need mobile and compact setup. It is all about sound, best regards!

New graphics are easier to read at a glance, no need to make everything vintage and analog. Faster workflow with simpler designs and contrasting colors equals faster music production. Take your time to get use to new design and work in dark theme, there is a reason beyond improvements.
