  1. Ample Bass P lite has the normal note range of a 4 string P-Bass, E1 to F4. One cause for a wrong octave can be if the bass lines are written on a synth (which can play lower), so the notes may be outside of the actual P-Bass note range. Cakewalk also has a setting in Preferences > Customization > Display > "Base Octave for pitches" that determines what octave displays on the piano roll as (0), (1), (2), (3), etc. I have set my Base Octave at (-2), and the E1 on Ample lines up with E1 on the piano roll. If I set "Base Octave for pitches"to (0), the piano roll is off by 2 octaves. Then I have to play E3 on the piano roll to hit E1 on the bass. And also not running as admin here.
  2. That should work. I have ST4 pointed to my ST3 content path, and I never open ST3 any more.
  3. The presets come with different samples of various tone and pickup settings. The preset notes indicate how that preset was sampled. Plus the effects rack is enabled for most, and you can do a lot of your own variations with just the FX. If you turn the effects rack off, in most cases you will hear the dry Clav samples. Also if you also have Amplitube, you can have some real fun by inserting that to up the amp and cabinet vibe! Vintage metal lead, anyone?
  4. Just wait for EZD 2 to go on sale again, and get that instead. It was on sale for $79 at the end of this past November. That's only $50 more for the latest full version! ?
  5. That list looks very detailed, and will probably do the job. Been a few years since my last clean in stall, so my memory isn't all that fresh. But one thing I always do in addition to my audio interface and MIDI drivers, is to check for the latest video drivers and system drivers for the motherboard (BIOS, LAN, onboard VGA, Chipset, etc.) at the manufacturer's website. If you have a discrete GPU, check for those drivers too. If you do not install the actual manufacturer's drivers, you will get the ones that Microsoft thinks that you need. That is sometimes OK, especially if your PC hardware is past end of life. Buy I prefer to rely on the official drivers whenever possible, except maybe in the case of the PC peripherals, such as mouse and keyboard. Fortunately this process isn't as bad as it used to be. If a manufacturer uses "class compliant" drivers, they are already part of Windows, and are plug and play. I have seen a few MIDI controllers that use these. Some other manufacturers have supplied their drivers directly to Microsoft for USB devices such as Wi-Fi adapters and other things, so they are pre-installed in Windows. Again, plug and play. Good luck!
  6. Simple answer. Use Kontakt when you want to play a Kontakt instrument. Either standalone, or as a DAW plug-in. Komplete Kontrol is more of a host (but runs as a plug-in as well). Use KK when you want to host any NKI compatible instrument, including Kontakt. KK has some advantages such as browsing and previewing presets, and adding FX chains. As well as a macro controls panel that can be linked to your controller. Can be run either standalone without a host DAW, or as a plug-in. However it is limited to one instrument, unless you insert Kontakt or another multi-timbral instrument.
  7. Don't bother trying to outsmart Mr. scook! ?
  8. I think that Addictive Keys update is a new one, because it wasn't there last weekend when I last ran the installer.
  9. You're welcome! 480GB should be fine for a system drive. I'm using a 500GB with plenty of room to spare. But regardless of the brand, if using SSD you should definitely make a backup image. SSD can die suddenly and unexpectedly. Rare, but definitely annoying. I helped a friend build a new computer a few years ago. He installed a Samsung EVO SSD. After seeing how that performed, I went home and ordered me one of those before I went to bed that night! Two years later he called me because his computer wouldn't boot. It said there was no boot drive. After spending time on the phone troubleshooting, swapping SATA ports and cables, told him to bring the drive over. Hooked it up to my PC, drive was dead as a brick. Plus he had no backups, except some docs that he had saved online. Moral of the story: always back up your stuff. Images are really the easiest way, because they capture everything in one shot. My original Samsung SSD is still working fine 5 years later, and I bought 2 more. SSD failures are rare and random, but you never know...
  10. Old stock from 2014? Looks more like the JRR time machine gone wild! ?
  11. It pays to actually run the installer periodically to check. I ran mine last weekend, and nothing showed up then.
  12. Plug-ins protected by iLok are the worst in that regard. You have to email each publisher to remove your activation for a computer that you can no longer access to do it yourself. For me that's: AIR, Akai, Eventide, Metric Halo, Softube, Sonivox, and UVI. Waves is a strange animal. If you don't move your licenses back to the Waves cloud first, you will likely have to burn your once-a-year Waves license recovery privilege. Most other cases require either a simple reactivation, or a visit to your account online to remove the computer to free up an activation, like Celemony/Melodyne or XLN Audio.
  13. I suppose that right or wrong, IK must have assumed that most would have converted their old libraries to ST3 format by now. But I agree, not very consumer friendly.
  14. Once you have fixed it, I would recommend using a good disk imaging program to make a system drive image on an external drive, and then create a bootable recovery drive on USB flash to restore that image if ever necessary. One option is Macrium Reflect Free, which can do both reliably, and there are others. Beats re-installing Windows every time Windows or the hard drive crashes.
  15. There is an Addictive Keys update available after the installer updates...
  16. You would need a copy of ST3 to do any importing. ST4 doesn't support importing. ST4 will read ST3 libraries native, no import required.
  17. I would email Toontrack first to verify this if I was considering it.
  18. Generally the best deal is to upgrade from the standard Pro edition. Assuming that you have a recent (current or previous year) version of Pro, you can upgrade to UltraPak for $149. First time purchase of Pro is $129. First time purchase of UltraPak is $469. They typically run a sale every December when a new version is released, and the latest sale on upgrades is set to expire today, Jan 15th. https://www.pgmusic.com/bbwin.packages.htm
  19. Just curious, but with that BIAB plug-in now available, what would be the use case for DAW users to ever run the standalone BIAB application? I don't know the product in-depth enough to spot any differences, or any limitations of the plug-in version. Just recently upgraded to 2021 Ultrapak.
  20. Clavitube for $19? I picked that for my final freebie in the IK Group Buy this summer. Sounds great! I'd say definitely worth $19, and IMO more useful than Alternate Keys. Clavitube would be a nice addition for those with plenty of Rhodes and Wurlis already. It focuses on variations of two models of Clavinets, from directs to tube guitar amps and other effects in the rack. But then Alternate Keys might satisfy your hunger for accordions, harpsichords, and harmoniums, and a few other things such as a toy piano.
  21. My opinion is that the "soul" of an analog synthesizer is best accessed via knobs. You can reach into the heart of the machine by having a dedicated knob for most internal functions, and tweak and play with the sound in real-time. You can likely achieve incredible analog sound quality with today's technology, but if you lose your "soul" in the process, what are you really gaining? I think that is what I find most annoying about digital synths, with their clean looking panels and multi-function buttons. Menu diving on a LCD screen is not my idea of making music. VSTi plug-in instruments have brought back some of that tactile experience via controller mappings with knobs and sliders, and having direct access to internal synth parameters. But with the price tag for analog hardware such as it is, I would want a synth with a more tactile experience. IMHO. I would probably be inclined to spend the money on a better controller.
  22. Of those three sound banks for Ultra Analog, I already have Starlight and Cinematheque. Starlight is loaded with some great arpeggios and leads, while Cinemateque is loaded with textures, pads, and sequences. Daniel Stawczyk is an excellent sound designer!
