  1. Yep, I was just referring to re-building the music PC system drive with all of my programs and plugins, which would be the most time consuming to re-build from scratch. I use a simple file sync program to back up changed project sessions and other docs intraday. My drive with sample libraries gets imaged weekly at midnight Sunday. That one takes about almost 2 hours. But in all cases it's "outside of business hours" as the image scheduler wakes the computer up from sleep, runs the image, and lets it get back to sleep. My friendly little assistant!
  2. Glad that helped! I really like the Ample P-Bass. And I have a real Fender P-Bass. If you insert an amp sim plug-in with a bass amp and cabinet, it sounds like a real P-Bass. Plus you can shape the sound a lot more using that.
  3. That's why I use a reliable disk imaging program that automatically makes a new full system drive image every night! It only takes me about 30 minutes or so to boot from a USB flash recovery drive & restore the entire drive to just like it was the previous night. The image process only requires the learning curve to set it up, then it's set and forget until you need it. Beats spending weeks trying to rebuild my system back to like it was... ?
  4. $94.95 here is probably the cheapest way to get started with the current BIAB Pro edition. Then upgrade at the next sale! The recent sale just ended on Jan 15th.
  5. Last year when I asked AAS about swapping my dupes, they pointed out that Humble Bundle had accidentally issued issued 2 codes for several banks, and so unfortunately would be unable to swap those items. But they did take care of a couple others for me. Never told me flat out that bundled items were not eligible.
  6. Plugin Boutique has a good Scaler 2 course available from Producertech that I am watching now. Unlike most free videos with feature overviews, this course has a couple of overview modules to get started, then several workflow modules for hands-on practice. Not available to download, but can be streamed from your account at PIB. https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/6443-Producer-s-Guide-to-Scaler-2
  7. Unfortunately that's a short list...
  8. Have you disabled your on-board audio on the PC? In other words is all sound from your PC routed to the audio interface and monitors?
  9. Can't you just un-dock (float) the console and drag it to the monitor that you want it on? Or am I missing something? I have my two displays set up so that I can drag windows back and forth between them as desired. One monitor is mounted right above my MIDI keyboard, and one on my desk where my mouse and PC keyboard is (my primary monitor). If I want a VSTi UI above my controller, it is a simple task to drag it over there and use controller mappings instead of my mouse.
  10. A chord track should be very handy, especially for the reason that Vernon just mentioned regarding an easy indication of what the chord is at any point in the song. That would help with arranging the song, and composing additional parts. And as you said, it probably would need to be implemented in stages. What I would like to see these stages as: Starting with a chord marker track that can automatically extract the chords from a MIDI track, and fill in the markers with the current chords. Add the ability for MIDI tracks to follow the chord track. Add a chord assistant UI that is aware of the scales/modes, and offers optional chords/variations for use on MIDI or instrument tracks. Ability to extract the chords from an audio track to the chord track. Add the ability for audio tracks to follow the chord track. Of course, #3 could be accomplished by using a plug-in such as Scaler 2, or others. But the rest would need to be built into the DAW. And #5 would be useful to composers who record real instruments rather than MIDI. But this would probably be the most difficult to do well. Although there is probably a way to leverage ARA2 for this.
  11. Microsoft to fix Windows 10 bug that can corrupt a hard drive just by looking at an icon https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/15/22232589/microsoft-ntfs-windows-10-bug-icon-file-flaw-vulnerability-comment?utm_medium=techboard.fri.media.20210115&utm_source=email&utm_content=&utm_campaign=campaign
  12. Ample Bass P lite has the normal note range of a 4 string P-Bass, E1 to F4. One cause for a wrong octave can be if the bass lines are written on a synth (which can play lower), so the notes may be outside of the actual P-Bass note range. Cakewalk also has a setting in Preferences > Customization > Display > "Base Octave for pitches" that determines what octave displays on the piano roll as (0), (1), (2), (3), etc. I have set my Base Octave at (-2), and the E1 on Ample lines up with E1 on the piano roll. If I set "Base Octave for pitches"to (0), the piano roll is off by 2 octaves. Then I have to play E3 on the piano roll to hit E1 on the bass. And also not running as admin here.
  13. That should work. I have ST4 pointed to my ST3 content path, and I never open ST3 any more.
  14. The presets come with different samples of various tone and pickup settings. The preset notes indicate how that preset was sampled. Plus the effects rack is enabled for most, and you can do a lot of your own variations with just the FX. If you turn the effects rack off, in most cases you will hear the dry Clav samples. Also if you also have Amplitube, you can have some real fun by inserting that to up the amp and cabinet vibe! Vintage metal lead, anyone?
  15. Just wait for EZD 2 to go on sale again, and get that instead. It was on sale for $79 at the end of this past November. That's only $50 more for the latest full version! ?
  16. That list looks very detailed, and will probably do the job. Been a few years since my last clean in stall, so my memory isn't all that fresh. But one thing I always do in addition to my audio interface and MIDI drivers, is to check for the latest video drivers and system drivers for the motherboard (BIOS, LAN, onboard VGA, Chipset, etc.) at the manufacturer's website. If you have a discrete GPU, check for those drivers too. If you do not install the actual manufacturer's drivers, you will get the ones that Microsoft thinks that you need. That is sometimes OK, especially if your PC hardware is past end of life. Buy I prefer to rely on the official drivers whenever possible, except maybe in the case of the PC peripherals, such as mouse and keyboard. Fortunately this process isn't as bad as it used to be. If a manufacturer uses "class compliant" drivers, they are already part of Windows, and are plug and play. I have seen a few MIDI controllers that use these. Some other manufacturers have supplied their drivers directly to Microsoft for USB devices such as Wi-Fi adapters and other things, so they are pre-installed in Windows. Again, plug and play. Good luck!
  17. Simple answer. Use Kontakt when you want to play a Kontakt instrument. Either standalone, or as a DAW plug-in. Komplete Kontrol is more of a host (but runs as a plug-in as well). Use KK when you want to host any NKI compatible instrument, including Kontakt. KK has some advantages such as browsing and previewing presets, and adding FX chains. As well as a macro controls panel that can be linked to your controller. Can be run either standalone without a host DAW, or as a plug-in. However it is limited to one instrument, unless you insert Kontakt or another multi-timbral instrument.
  18. Don't bother trying to outsmart Mr. scook! ?
  19. I think that Addictive Keys update is a new one, because it wasn't there last weekend when I last ran the installer.
  20. You're welcome! 480GB should be fine for a system drive. I'm using a 500GB with plenty of room to spare. But regardless of the brand, if using SSD you should definitely make a backup image. SSD can die suddenly and unexpectedly. Rare, but definitely annoying. I helped a friend build a new computer a few years ago. He installed a Samsung EVO SSD. After seeing how that performed, I went home and ordered me one of those before I went to bed that night! Two years later he called me because his computer wouldn't boot. It said there was no boot drive. After spending time on the phone troubleshooting, swapping SATA ports and cables, told him to bring the drive over. Hooked it up to my PC, drive was dead as a brick. Plus he had no backups, except some docs that he had saved online. Moral of the story: always back up your stuff. Images are really the easiest way, because they capture everything in one shot. My original Samsung SSD is still working fine 5 years later, and I bought 2 more. SSD failures are rare and random, but you never know...
  21. Old stock from 2014? Looks more like the JRR time machine gone wild! ?
  22. It pays to actually run the installer periodically to check. I ran mine last weekend, and nothing showed up then.
