Control Surface MMcL Mackie Control odd transport behavior
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
And, drum roll please, the not-surprising answer from PreSonus regarding this issue: >> Thanks for contacting Presonus Technical Support. >> >> Is this issue occurring with Cakewalk? Sonar is not officially supported for use with the Faderport. It will work since Cakewalk supports Mackie, but the specific way that it is implemented is managed by Cakewalk. If you having issues with how it is working then you may consider reaching out to Sonar for advice. -
Control Surface MMcL Mackie Control odd transport behavior
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
Now I have more clearly identified what is going on: CWbb uses the space bar as keyboard shortcut for Play / Stop , which is apparently not the same message as Play / Pause. Using the CTL-W option, I can either make CWbb work as I would like, or the FaderPort 8 transport, but not both at once. The CWbb space bar keyboard mapping works as I would like ( with CTL-W Option UN-set ) so that space-Play = play , and space-Stop = stop in-place (which is basically a Pause). And unexpectedly, even though CTL-W is UN-set, the FaderPort 8 transport button called "Play/Pause" behaves as if the CTL-W option is SET (though it is not) and winds back to "Now". With FP8, "Now" located for example at time 1:00:00.000 press the "Play/Pause" ... roll for a while, press "Play/Pause" and the transport rewinds to 1:00:00.000 The symptom is that FP8 with CTL-W = SET , press the "Play/Pause" ... roll for a while, press "Play/Pause" and the transport stops right there. Which seems kind of opposite to what would expect. I've opened a ticket with PreSonus about this, and if I hear anything back will update the posts. In the meantime, I'm keeping the CWbb CTL-W Option UN-set and I will workaround on the FP8 to not use the "Play/Pause" for pausing but will use the Stop button. -
Using the "MMcL Mackie Control #3 - 1" for PreSonus FaderPort 8 (FP8) FP8 Pressing Play it starts , pressing Stop button, CWbb stops at that point in time position. FP8 Pressing Play it starts , pressing Play/Pause button, CWbb rewinds to the starting position. The CTL-W option is un-checked: On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker. The Now Time jumps back to the Now Time Marker whenever playback stops. I have tried with Handshake On and Handshake Off, same behavior. The PC keyboard spacebar behaves correctly = Start, press space, stops at that point in time position. Is there some other setting to adjust? How do I check if the version of MMcL is up-to-date ? And where would I find the latest version? Thanks!

Humming on Audio Output only when using Cakewalk
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
Have to raise it again, but are there any other areas to check or turn off? Although very soft, and only heard when my monitors are cranked well above my max listening level, it's the same hum frequency tone !! -
Humming on Audio Output only when using Cakewalk
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
You, David Baay, are amazing to find that !! That Is Indeed the Source of the Hum !! I have no idea how it got turned on, but now that I've turned off both the ProChannel (and Tube Saturator) The Hum Is Gone !! Even just turning the ProChannel "on" stops the hum. Go figure !! But I'll be turning it off and re-saving my templates with it "off". I can't thank you enough for your time and identifying the solution ... but I can send you this emoji ? -

Humming on Audio Output only when using Cakewalk
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
for David Baay, FX Bypass does not stop the hum (I don't use ProChannel) I removed ALL plugins and set ALL Gain to unity, still have a Hum. No synths in the project. Testing continues ... -
Humming on Audio Output only when using Cakewalk
freddie_tane replied to freddie_tane's question in Q&A
thanks for the suggestions: for Outrage, In doing that suggest test, I found that there is No Hum. for Promidi, the input echo are all disabled (I almost never use input echo on audio tracks). the hum does go away if either the master bus is muted, or if ALL individual tracks are muted. Each track seems to have a small amount of hum. The audio interface is Behringer x32 Compact (USB, 32 channel card) I found that some Cakewalk projects have the hum, other projects (including newly created, like the Outrage test) do not. I Saved tracks as template in a project that has hum, then, in a newly created project, Insert from Track Template, and it Does Hum. My next test scenario is start with a newly created project (as-per Outrage, just a master bus and 1 individual track) and continue adding tracks manually - is there some number of tracks at which the hum begins? Then begin adding plugin fx/comp/lim , do some minutes of recording ... check for hum ... -
CWbB (2024.02 , 29.09.0.98 ) The Mixer and Monitor are fully quiet when Cakewalk is not running. Other audio programs are fully quiet when open (tested Audacity, Media Player), tested by pausing them during playback, then mixer/monitor faders up fully Quiet. But when Cakewalk is Opened, and a project is loaded, there is a synth-like Humming on Main Stereo Audio Output of around 330hz. Pressing the "Audio Engine" button stops the hum. Then re-engaging it, the hum returns. Adjusting the Main Stereo fader changes the level of the hum. Muting all tracks then un-muting a single track reveals a lower-level of hum, un-muting more tracks and the hum level increases, so it is "coming from" all tracks. (check out the attached audio file HUM.m4a - Caution - it's pretty loud !! ) I have tested with a different computer, same symptom. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I replaced the mixer's USB cable, re-installed Cakewalk, MIDI, and all Control Surfaces drivers. Has anyone else ever had this symptom? HUM.m4a

As a feature request, to have an option to store a Mix Scene as a Global Mix Scene. Then within any project we could select and load a Global Mix Scene. An intermediary mapping screen could be used to match the stored Mix Scene's tracks to the current project's tracks.

Start Recording on 1 armed track, immediately get a Loud Pop, The Output Meters are Pinned and the Transport is rolling but Recording didn't start! Press stop, the meters are still pinned and when I turn up the speaker system, there is some unusual signal present like a very low frequency and noise. Press play, sometimes the signal will stop. Sometimes not, so have to exit Cakewalk. Going to check these areas, but any other suggestions greatly appreciated: reinstall of soundcard (Behringer x32) drivers Latency/Buffer settings too low in CW Will look at removing some PC system level optimizations from Windows 10. Though the problem pre-existed, have just upgraded to Windows 11 , so may check these areas again: Control Panel: disable system sounds // Sound Panel - Sounds to "No Sounds" Power Options // = High Performance setting // display off = never // sleep == never System // ADvanced System Settings // Performance / Settings / Advanced tab / choose Background Services Adjust USB Suspend Settings // Parts 1 & 2: Part 1: Power Options // Change Plan Settings / Change Advanced Power settings / USB Settings / "Disabled" Part 2: Device Manager // USB Bus Controllers / on each, Pwer mgmt make sure the "Allow computer to turn off" is NOT CHECKED Disable background processes Settings / Privacy / Background Apps / Turn off un-wanted/un-needed Update Process Priority and CPU Affinity for Windows Audio Control Service Probably others, but again, any ideas on where to check would be appreciated.

Cakewalk and Mackie MCU Transport , keyboard bindings , MIDI messages
freddie_tane posted a question in Q&A
hi Forum Folk - I've used Sonar, now CbB, for many years, very handy with using the computer keyboard for navigation (moving from marker to marker with the CTL+Shift+PgUp/PgDown, and have always preferred the ability to engage/disengage record mode with the R key, play & stop with spacebar, and of course to setup KeyBindings. Having ventured into the world of control surfaces, with the Mackie MCU Pro - it's setup as a Control Surface, and the transport works fine, but how can I find guidance (or program into the MCU) to the equivalents? Especially work-alikes to the computer keyboard's transport functionalities for moving from marker to marker? Also, is there an MCU equivalent to how the Cakewalk R key works? In other words, press R and the transport both engages Record and begins to roll, press R again and the transport disengages Record but continues to roll. Lastly, another question related to MCU transport - I have it attached to the PC via USB, so that is MIDI Port #1, therefore surely it must be sending MIDI messages into Cakewalk. Does it also send those same transport messages out on the MIDI Ports #2,3,4 ? I've seen references to a chart of the Mackie protocol MIDI note messages that are sent on Channel 1 ( Play = A#6 127 , Record = B6 127) -- are those transport messages transmitted by MCU on Channel 1 and output on its MIDI Ports #2,3,4 ? Thanks for any advise , resource info, and so on! -

hi Mark - Thanks for your detailed reply! I appreciate the advise - I had come across AZController but was a bit hesitant as you say the setup is not "one-button" - however, if the end result is as-needed, I will dive in. Writing my own in C# is not at all within my skill set - I'm a guitarist/keyboardist/singer/songwriter, so the only C# I know about is the key of C# ? Could you clarify a bit about AZ and MIDI messages - if I download the control surface .dll and get it to appear in the dropdown of Cakewalk's Control Surface types, then attach it's MIDI ports to the StreamDeck hardware/software, the StreamDeck's "MIDI Plugin" allows sending/receiving MIDI messages on those ports - what are the MIDI messages? Are they what is configured in Cakewalk's Key Bindings? Or is it the Play/Record/Stop messages as defined in MMC ? And, how do I find out what MIDI messages being used by the Cakewalk "R" key so I can replicate the "punch-in/out" behavior I described? Or, and if I get time to RTFM, the AZ documentation will explain how to do this? Thanks!
