  1. It helped a little, but the output isn't as loud as it should be. Something is wrong, but I don't know what.
  2. Ah, yes. I realized that the high pass filter is on with the mic. Not sure, though, if it would create the issues I'm having. I will turn it off and record vocals and see.
  3. I've been using a Stam SA87 and a Dachman 87, both very good mics. Mic preamps are Warm Audio. The other thing I forgot to mention is that the signal isn't as hot. I've had to turn the gain up a bit more. However, the harshness is there at any level. I'm not sure I can accurately describe harshness. But the vocal track, which is usually darker without eq, is now brighter and not smooth or warm. Adding eq makes the harshness worse.
  4. All of a sudden my vocals sound harsh. I replaced cables, tried different mics, and even tried a new mic preamp. Nothing helps. I'm out of ideas. Anyone have a suggestion of what could cause this?
  5. All great information. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it. I've only exported 3 songs at 32 bit so far. I'll go back and redo them at 24 bit.
  7. I've been exporting my mixed songs at a 32 bitrate. What is the normal bitrate to export a wave file?
  8. I found the issue. It was a Waves de-esser. When I deleted it, everything was normal.
  9. I will do that and see. My mics, though, are not cheap. I'm using a Stam Audio SA87, which is a good mic. Thanks!
  10. Sorry, but I don't know what other info to give. I have soloed it, which is how I discovered the issue. I recorded it a while back and am in the process of mixing. It seemed fine a couple of days ago, but when I soloed it to check it out, I heard some distortion. I also had compression on the track but had to turn it way down from where I had it originally because it no longer sounded as clean. I did not record it too hot, btw.
  11. The vocals I recorded on a certain song were fine after I recorded them but are now distorting in a couple of areas. They weren't distorting after I recorded them, but they do a little bit now here and there. Does anyone know what would cause that?
  12. I've had the WA12 for about 3 years, so it's not under warranty. At this point, I don't know what they could do. The WA12 sounds better than my interface. I just don't like the ringing it does on certain consonants.
  13. I had the mic in a closet a while back. Same issue.
  14. I've been looking at the Camden EC1. Thanks!
  15. Suggestions for a decent mic pre?
  16. When I record vocals, the mic pre that I've been using (Warm Audio WA12 Mkll) sounds like it feeds back with some consonants. I tried turning the gain way down, but when I sing certain consonants, it's like it feeds back (slight ringing). It's not the mic, because it does it with every mic I use. And I have a little vocal booth I made. I'm thinking it's the mic pre. Maybe someone has an idea of what the issue could be. Or perhaps a recommendation for a better mic pre.
  17. It's working. Thanks for your help!
  18. I will try it when I'm able to get to my computer later. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll let you know.
  19. I've been using Melodyne for years. I haven't used it in a while though. When I tried to open it (CTRL + M), nothing happens. I even tried to re-install it. Nothing. Suggestions?
  20. I just ordered the ARC system. I figured if it will help, then why not? Thanks for the suggestion.
  21. What exactly is the K-system?
  22. That's pretty much what I've decided I need to do. With monitors, I hear all the bad stuff. When I use headphones and compare with reference tracks, my vocals sound as good as what I hear from the RT. But I'm trying to mix with monitors to try to get rid of whatever bad frequencies they uncover.
  23. Thanks, John! I will look into it.
  24. When I listen on the monitors, I hear every little imperfection in my vocals. But through headphones (and I have several pairs) I can't hear any weird frequencies. They sound good. So I guess I'll trust the monitors and fix all the frequency issues. That way I'll know they'll be right (or better).
