Sharing your Bandlab masterpiece with other musicians...
Dreamer replied to Dreamer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I record their performances. I send them a scratch track to listen to, and they come to my home to do the actual recording. Some just don't have PC's or Macs. Just their phones. -
Sharing your Bandlab masterpiece with other musicians...

Perhaps my question was not worded correctly? I think this has sidetracked. I was asking about androids, iPhone apps for sharing music between musicians via smartphones. A lot of my musician friends don't even have PC's or Macs anymore. Just phones. -

Great idea. But yeah...AI? ☹️ I am an aficionado of the 70s, the golden years. Decade of the producers. AI may mean the end of it all. The beginning of the end of natural creativity. -
I'm curious, I'd like to know how musicians/producers communicate their project ideas to other musicians nowadays using smartphones. I've had great success with cats that have desktops/laptops or Macs, but occasionally I have to deal with musicians that don't have any of these. All they have is a smartphone. I usually just circumvent them and use other musicians. But, I think that's not a good idea. With smartphones, sending a music file, is a hassle with some SMS due to file size. I've tried WhatsApp, but some cats are not that smartphone savvy or do not use it. What other simple, free ways are there to share a project music file via a smartphone? I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this question, but there are a lot of bedroom producers here such as myself who use Cakewalk and have tons of great music and great ideas. I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

Okay, thanks. I just didn't understand what you meant by "W". Now I get it, (the automation button looks like a "W"). But most importantly, I didn't know how to view the buses on the track view. Without that, I couldn't do anything with the bus. (Shift + B). Thanks everybody...I got it now.
-
Thanks SteveC. Found that out shortly before the posted answers, (Shift + B). But I swear I couldn't find this anywhere but for a posting here where someone mentioned that keyboard command. As for that, D'oh! Or just click "W"....why post if you can't help?

I used to be able to put gain/pan envelopes in buses with Sonar 8.5. But how is done in Bandlab? Looked over multiple YouTube videos, googled till my eyes bulged. Read old Garrigus Sonar books, to no avail. What's changed, is it doable? I read via the Edit Filter on tracks and buses, but there is no edit filter on the buses. How's it done?

Can I save a track as a templet w/plugins?
Dreamer replied to Dreamer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Thanks fellas! -
I want to streamline my projects. I have my favorite plugins and was wondering if I could save the templet with all the parameters to include the plugin?

Sorry for all the confusion. To answer, the engineer basically wanted to coach me over the phone as a co-mix, not remotely. I've since pulled back and hired someone else. This idea to me was ridiculous and the mere suggestion of doing this teed me off. I thought that after so many years wow has the industry really progressed. But something just didn't sound right and despite the explanation that was given to me, (to keep the project in an acceptable budget for me), my gut was telling me he was taking me for an idiot. As always, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But I've learned to trust my instincts and the red flag stuck out like a sore thumb.

You're so right. It was so obvious. I've moved on from this sound engineer...

Finished my project on Cakewalk. I don't like mixing or mastering so I'm farming it out. Problem is that the sound engineer wants to do the mix over the phone using my DAW. Not that I want to put down my axe its great but I thought that's why one would want it farmed out. New set of ears, (golden I'm assuming), in addition to a high end studio. And I already mentioned to the engineer that I don't like mixing. Has anyone ever been asked to this?? I've been out of the industry for 30 yrs now. Does this sound right? This is unusual to me.

Who's VST3, Waves offers that? or Do you mean that BandLab has a VST3 compatible version?
-
? I'm not sure I understand your answer...?

I read in the older forum that earlier Cakewalk Sonar programs were not compatible with Waves Vocal-Rider. Cakewalk had its own side-chaining choice, (Sonitus Gate), which does work. But the Vocal-Rider is a superior app. But that was then, so what about now? Is Cakewalk Bandlab compatible to Waves Vocal-Rider? (I did try it in Sonar 8.5 and the side-chaining aspect of Vocal-Rider does not work. It would not show up upon choosing a send, (Sonitus Gate does if I choose it).

Sound dummy needs help in capturing a sound live...

I'm by no means a sound engineer, but I know my instruments. My upright bass has a good sound but I'm still not happy with the sound capture. I've recorded using a Realist Pickup for Acoustic Upright Bass....no likey. Then I tried a Micro-Gooseneck by Myers Pickups.....still no likey. I thought to myself, why don't it sound like an upright? Those P/U's make my upright sound like I'm playing an EUB. Then I googled recording upright bass and found this video: https://youtu.be/EhdkYCDiB9Q Definitely helped me out, (especially the foam around the mic in the bridge), but I could not afford to buy a high end condenser mic like the one in the video, (luckily the budget SM-57 I do own). After doing some more googling I was convinced even a budget cheapy condenser mic will do the trick. Tried my MXL-V57M condenser with the Sure SM57 onto two separate tracks and BAM! I got close enough to be happy now! Recording and capturing the live upright sound is solved. But here's where I'm not so happy anymore.....I liked it so much, that I want to be able to duplicate that sound live with just the two mics and a duel mic pre-amp so that I can patch it into my amp. Here's my gear: An upright, (obviously), the Sure SM57, the MXL condenser mic, an M-Audio DMP3 Dual Mic PreAmplifier, and a GK MB-112 Combo bass amp. I'll be using a mono splitter cable which haven't gotten yet to patch into my amp. I'm I in the right direction? Bass Clip.mp3

Anybody have a copy of Cakewalk's Studio Instruments Strings?
Dreamer replied to Dreamer's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I see what the problem is. That dialog is available only on my 64 bit machine with Bandlab. But not on my 32 bit machine that does not have Bandlab, (this machine is my main axe which never has a problemo. It uses Sonar 8.5). That's why I was asking for the download. -

Thanks that was quick. I tried that, it only gives me the learn more option...no Add-ons...
