MichaelJohn started following When They Built Cathedrals

WHEN THEY BUILT CATHEDRALS It doesn't happen very often when the world is in awe of a rebuilt cathedral. But that's what happened this year with the completion of the restoring of Notre Dame cathedral. Inspiring the world with it's beauty and craftsmanship. So happens I wrote a piece in 2007 about the awesomeness of cathedrals and even posted it here. Inspired by the restoration I felt an urge to restore my original track, with better instruments and better remix. The original was made on my Yamaha (or Roland) keyboard workstation. This remake is all Sample Tank 4 for the first 4 minutes. Then the 2007 track is mixed in with ST4 to the end. First made in 2007 Sonar, restored in CWBL This work is in passacaliga form (a repeating bass line with variations on top). Terry Fry wrote the repeating bass line and asked me to write music on top. Be a little careful as it has a wide dynamic range and deep sub in some sections. Hope you enjoy. Comments welcome. Have a great Christmas, and happy New Year!

Thanks for posting Invention No 8! I like it! -
Very mellow in mood and creates a calm soul. Always like the solo breaks and change ups. Your music reminds me of Steely Dan with creative chords and laid back but restless style. Thanks for comment on new piece on SC.

Fantastic song writing and production. Every element fits together, nothing sticks out as unnecessary or missing. I also like how the verse starts on a minor chord and ends a phrase on a major chord. Something I don't hear very often. I like how the mix kinda hides the chord and I can't tell if a chord passing is minor or major. I like that a lot.

Great playing! Dig the instrument interplay and offbeat chords and rhythms.

Enjoyed it! Catchy melody and good arturia synth work

2nd listen. Bach is my main music inspiration and guide. This is a very nice piano arrangement and the piano sound is great! I was hoping for the part B in the piece that goes into minor mode etc, but this is short and sweet and will work perfect for the appropriate occasion or event that needs a little Bach, but not too much. If you get the chance check out my When They Built Cathedrals inspired by Bach, which I'll be posting soon. Very nice! -
Beautiful song and vocal. I like the minimal background, it made me reflect more on the lyric that just passed. I do agree that a minor build up then pull back at the end would also work very well in this piece. The piano tone, pads, mix etc all great!

Also listened to the full version. I like all the instruments doing their thing- bass, guitar, organ, keys, drums- song has a it all. And extended instruments only with solos as well, works great. Reggie vibe is nice.

Not sure what this is- dub, electronic, experimental? Not sure but someone is playing with some 'toys' and created a new thing no one has heard before! There are drones in the sky and now we have this unknown something. Still not sure what's going on... j/k Those complex toys make some great sounds

I didn't hear it last time but glad I am now! Has an oldie sound style, and not a modern wild style, which is very good. And vocal is your own style, not trying copy someone. Smooth and wonderful Christmasy (<---I made up a new word?)

Really great song and lyrics, but wow the vocals are studio pro quality. Nice late 80's vibe I think that sounds refreshing today.

Very beautiful voice! This song is one of the harder Christmas songs too!

My new fav of yours. The skill on the saxes is masterful, the quality of the tone from the mic is fantastic. But I like the composition just as much. I see you post a new work about every month, but sometimes in two months. Don't go more than a month! I've subscribed to your yt but I also want a text or email when you post! Not sure yt does that.
