Waves Discontinues Perpetual Licenses (UPDATE: They have gone Subscription Only)

If you go to Waves.com main page.  Zero info about "any" of this.  No links, no FAQ... nada.

Only way to have gotten any notice or information is from forums like this or an email from Waves/3rd party vendors.  What kind of company does this???  You would think the information that was in their newsletter could at least be found somewhere on their website, but NOPE!

Lastly, I really don't like the timeframe that Waves gave us.  Out of nowhere came a March 26th deadline.  And we're literally all left wondering, "what tf is going on?!"  You'd at least think we'd have a year's notice (at least that what would seem like the right thing to do).

I'm eagerly waiting to see what all the hubbub is about after March 26th.  I sincerely hope it's good news for customers.

If they still sell perpetual licenses after the 26th,  I will still probably buy more of them.

However, if it's sub only, I am outta here.

Ever since PA started really I pushing thier MegaDeal sub, I have bought very little from them. Very little. Only reason I buy anything from them is I get a perpetual license.

I ain't doing no sub, don't want no sub, ain't down with subs at all. They can take that sub and stick it....

I totally agree!

But I still wonder how many companies try to go the sub-way 😆! Recently I had 3 surveys and all were more or less about "subscription"! This is crazy, if I look at the reactions here on this forum! There are not many who are sub-enthusiasts!

Yes! This sub stuff is crazy. I was getting some meal supplements for my pet, and they wouldn't let me order anything unless I went with a sub. They stated the reason was short supplies so only subscribers would get it. (Side note, they are back to selling like they use too.)

This is just a bunch of BS! Good grief!!

We can all thank Adobe for the surge in software and app subscriptions being offered by other companies.  The amount of profit Adobe makes quarter after quarter is just ridiculous.  They are the subscription standard and they're just riding this billion dollar cash cow.  Not until they all start losing money will those companies stop offering subscriptions.

So yeah, we need to hit 'em where it hurts... their wallets.

Please don't subscribe, folks.

When you subscribe, you're just validating the whole software subscription business model.

So, cancel those subscriptions from Adobe, Avid, Capture One, PA, Reason+, Roland, Slate, Mobile Apps, etc.

There are alternatives.

I'm OK with a company offering subscriptions, as long as they are optional, and an alternative to reasonably priced perpetual licenses.

What Adobe did is unforgivable. They did away with perpetual licenses for all of their pro graphics software. Stop subscribing and you lose the ability to edit any of your works previously saved in the Adobe file formats. Apparently Adobe has a firm grip on the pro graphics industry. SMH.

When there is working competition, perpetual licensing is still available. Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office are first examples that come to my mind.

And IMHO audio software business has too much competitive businesses in the game and not that many customers on the other side, which creates hostile environment for sub models. But it looks like some developers are testing the water just to find that their dreams of subscription heaven are unrealistic.

I wonder how many anti-sub users have a Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Hulu etc account? 😉

In my case Amazon because I buy a lot of things
But I haven't Amazon Music or other services for example
And with others companies... none

Valid argument if Waves were my only resource.  In my case, I'm not interested in a subscription because I have plenty of other perpetual plugins to replace them with. However, I like having those options in my toolbox.  If not, I'll move on.
