New track overwrites existing track

IMA 44

Question

Hi, I'm completely new here, I just started diving into music production & Cakewalk, and there's so much that I don't know yet (including a lot of/most terminology), so please keep that in mind, in case I don't provide enough information with my question.

Anyways, I recently downloaded Komplete Kontrol (Native Instruments) and that is when I first noticed this issue: I drag Komplete Kontrol in a new track, create beat/melody/whatever and as soon as I start another track with Komplete Kontrol and chose another instrument there, that instrument automatically overwrites the instrument of my first track.

How can I fix this issue/does anybody know why this happens? As I said I'm a complete noob and often I accidentally click things I have no idea about.

Please let me know if you need more details to answer. Thanks in advance.

@Cactus Music Well, for example  I drag strings into a new track and create some notes there. Then, I create a new track below that and add a piano. When I replay what I did in the first track, which are supposed to be strings, it plays as a piano. I'm sorry for not being able to explain this well, I am learning how everything works right now.

OK you are just getting started so these are common issues with beginners and midi.  It’s simple but complicated.

I recommend watching my tutorials which will get you going a lot faster than trying on your own. Tutorial #12 and 13 have the info you are needing but you will definitely benefit from starting at #1 and going through each to give you a full understanding of how Cakewalk can be used
