Stretch audio without changing pitch

Hello everybody!

How can I strecth an audio file/track to fit my project tempo without changing the pitch? I used ctrl+shift to stretch and then bounce to clip. When the strecth it's just to adjust small bpm variations (from -5/+5 for example) I can't hear a pitch difference but if i stretch more things gets noticeable. Is there a way in cakewalk like in other DAWs to mantain the original pitch? Or are there free plugins to do that?

Depending on how much you want to stretch the audio, there may be better stretch algorithms that will work better, but there are limits to the amount you can stretch. Remember that if you are stretching audio you are trying to fill more time with the same amount of data--some data will be lost of necessity. An algorithm that will fill in the missing data points must use some sort of interpolation;  it must "guess" at what the complex wave was going to be doing in the now empty samples. The more empty samples it has to compensate for, the less it is likely to be correct.

Also, remember that you have several options for the stretch algorithms, found in the Preferences Section, that allows you to match your needs in the better possible way.
