Take Lanes overwriting themselves?

Hey friends, this is my first post.  Glad to be part of the group.

I had a client record vocals in the studio last week.  We had about 50-60 take lanes (9-10 per section of the song).   I noticed that, at a certain point (after 20 or so lanes), Cakewalk began "filling in" blank space in already-create lanes to record new lanes.  Because of this, some previous takes were overwritten and recorded over with the new lanes.  The worst part was that, when I noticed this was happening, it was too late in the process.   Those previous takes (some of which were golden) were overwritten and not recoverable.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm coming from Pro Tools which never gave me this issue in the past (you could have 100 lanes and it would still function properly and record each take in its own separate lane).  Is there a way to fix this or is in an inherent flaw with the DAW?

Edit: This may help.  In the Audio settings, Create New Lanes on Overlap and New Lanes on Top are both check-marked.  Also, Do Not Group Tracks is selected.
