latency with focusrite solo 2nd gen

This may have been asked before but I've searched and cannot find an answer in here.

I've just bought a focusrite solo and using it with other DAW's it works perfectly, no latency.

I prefer using cakewalk as it's much easier than other DAW's to use but sadly regardless of what buffer size or sample size I set it at, it just pops and crackles and has a 30ms latency.

If I set the buffers/speedall to low/fast it turns into a dalek type sound or like a really short slapback with many fast repeats and a chorusy effect.s

I just cannot rid it of the background noise and latency.  Even when it's almost a clear sound, there's latency.

In the free version of Ableton I got with it, once you tweak to suit your computer, it's crystal clear and no latency, but I find Ableton like piloting a space rocket and cakewalk has a much better UI in my experience.

Anyone got any suggestions?

My laptop is not USB 3.0 so it's not that which I've read can cause issues.

I'm on the latest drivers from focusrite and the latest version of cakewalk.

I've tried asio drivers for focusrite and asio4all and nothing fixes it.

Help please

Are you using ASIO driver mode?

What Buffer size, sample rate, bit depth are you using?

Are you using any plugins that use look ahead (like a linear phase EQ)

Your PC specs would be handy as well

TBH my laptop is not the best, but I have no latency issues in Ableton after following their in built setup instructions.

I have been using the focusrite drivers provided, I also tried asio4all by downloading them but they then don't appear in the driver drop-down menu in cakewalk, but I don't see why it suffers latency in CW but not Ableton.

 

I'm about to rig it up again and try again and also try my Behringer XR 18 with cakewalk and see if that has any issues with latency.

 I just want the focusrite to work so I don't have to get out the XR 18 everytime I wish to record as it's stored away and in big flight case, whereas the focusrite is small and desk top.

 

I'll check what drivers are what and post back later.

This is the screen that tells you if you're using ASIO or not:

And this shows you what devices you're using in that mode:

Make sure you're using ASIO & your Focusrite USB driver as shown above.

Also, ensure your Mixing Latency slider is set to a fairly low value (e.g. 64, 128 or 256).

Also make sure the Record :Latency Adjustment drop down shows the correct device.

Just delete Asio4All and you should be fine. 

Uninstall it completely from your system.

Asio4all has been known to invade you real ASIO drivers territory. You’ll need to completely remove it including in the registry. 
 

My son in law has a solo and a very slow old laptop and we run it at 256 buffer with no issues. 

Do not turn on input echo use the direct monitoring feature.

ASIO4All or any generic "ASIO" driver can be a problem when a real ASIO driver is present.

There should be at most one ASIO driver for each audio interface attached.

CbB  looks in the registry entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO

for installed ASIO drivers.
