Douglas Kirby 789 Posted March 10, 2019 Hi Everybody, This track is off an album I'm working on called "Relics". It entails a bunch of old songs I wrote but never recorded. This is the first track off the album. Any comments and critiques are welcome, and thanks for listening. SteenE 16 Posted March 10, 2019 Overall mix is good. Catchy title. It does so way to wet for my taste ?

Wookiee 1,749 Posted March 15, 2019 Hot and wet mix to these furry ears, they also say the mix could do with a few tweaks as some sounds are a little wide in the mix though backing off the reverb may clarify it better. Thanks for sharing.
Douglas Kirby 789 Posted March 23, 2019 Wookiee - Thanks for listening and I appreciate your critiques. I backed off on the hall reverb on the rhythm guitars - maybe it was a bit much there.
bjornpdx 1,005 Posted March 23, 2019 Douglas Reminds me of something that Nirvana might have done (if they had used synths) Sort of out of tune in places but intentional and with unconventional chords. I liked this one a lot.
garybrun 875 Posted March 23, 2019 I thought this was a clever song especially with the chords.
PhonoBrainer 1,819 Posted March 25, 2019 Your song from the 90's - I've got those, too! Ah, the classics. Love your vocals. The guitar flanged out has got a tuning issue, unless you want it really psychadelic, in which case, you are there. More importantly, you seem to be a consistently good songwriter, I don't remember hearing any duds. Nice job! cheers, -Tom
daryl1968 442 Posted March 25, 2019 Hi Doug - I hope you are well. Love the groove and your choice of chords. As Tom says there is a bit of a tuning issue but I think you get away with it. Backing vocal ahh's sound the shizzle and you just use them enough. I'm trying to work out what the solo instrument is....
Douglas Kirby 789 Posted March 31, 2019 bjornpdx - I'm glad you liked the song - thanks for listening. garybrun - Thanks for your comments and for listening. emaraldsoul - I appreciate your comments - thanks for listening. Since a couple of you mentioned out of tune guitars - I'm surprised - I thought they were spot on - maybe too much of the flanger is being used on them - I thought it sounded cool - like you say psychedelic. daryl1968 - Thanks for your comments and for listening. The lead instrument is a flute from Dimension Pro - I think the Garritan Pocket Orchestra.
amiller 186 Posted March 31, 2019 There are a few issues as mentioned above but overall I like the vibe,

Bob Oister 101 Posted April 5, 2019 Hey, Douglas, This is a really cool song with a vintage late 60's psychedelic vibe! It kind of reminds me of something by Donovan. Good songwriting and concept, great vocals and BGVs and a nice clean mix. Yep, I think Tom's right about the slightly over-flanged guitar, but it really isn't that noticeable except on certain notes during the flute melody lines, especially the notes that hold. Come to think of it, I remember on the old forum, a lot of discussion about Dim Pro always being slightly out of tune, so an easy fix might be to send the midi to another flute synth to see if it's more in tune. It could just be Dim Pro slightly out, clashing with the flanged guitar. Either way, cool song with a classic flavor!😀 "The Gentle Hours of Evening" that comes after it on Soundclick is fantastic, definitely one of my favorites of yours!👍 Have a good one, Douglas! Douglas Kirby 789 Posted April 7, 2019 Bob Oister - Hey Bob - thanks for listening and for your comments. I didn't know that about Dim Pro - that's a good idea to run the midi through something else to see if its a better fit tuning-wise. Thanks for commenting on my other song as well - cheers. Lynn Wilson 642 Posted April 12, 2019 Doug, this is a cool song that is different from many I hear at this site. Perhaps you could bounce that flute down and run it through Melodyne (or something similar) to tighten up the tuning. Otherwise, it's groovy, man!
Douglas Kirby 789 Posted April 14, 2019 Lynn - Thanks for your comments and for listening - I thought it was a bluesy song when I wrote it, but it did turn out to be a bit psychedelic.
freddy j 598 Posted April 15, 2019 Hi Doug. This is a cool and interesting song. It does indeed have a psychedelic feel to it. I have no suggestions to add that haven't been addressed above.
