ASUS (not Gigabyte)

I am overclocking now tho.  My Intel Core i7 8700K is clocked to  4,3 GHz (3,7 GHz).It is stable up  to 4,9 on my  cooler, but the cooler sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I have the cheapest of the Coolermaster. The Master Liquid Lite 240:

http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-liquid-cooler/masterliquid-lite-240/

Waiting to get a Corsair Hydro Series™ H100i RGB PLATINUM 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler the 20th this month.

http://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Categories/Products/Liquid-Cooling/Dual-Radiator-Liquid-Coolers/Hydro-Series™-RGB-Platinum/p/CW-9060039-WW

It said this is a real improvement on cooling, at least by corsair, since it is not a stock Asetek AIO but a more in-house design and made by CoolIT. And i dont have any space for a 280. Could put in a  360 but then i had to use a dremmel du demove the CD/DVD drive holder.

FWIW, You don't need closed-loop water-cooling for the 8700k.

You can use a large quality air-cooler... and it'll run quieter.

BTW, You can easily lock all six cores at 4.7GHz (no increased noise or stability issues).

Yeah. But I wasn't that lucky in the silicone lottery. I could buy a new one and maybe get what you say. But really, it is a lottery, and i don't have that money.

By the way, the Corsair cooler isn’t that more expensive than an ordinary cooler. But the main reason for me to use AIO watercooler is that it takes more time for the heat to build up. The one I have now, does not have a good enough pump. So, I hope the Corsair will be better that way. Fan speed is one thing, but if the water does not circulate fast enough it doesn’t matter if the fans run at 2000 rpm.

And PC building is a hobby of mine. So, I care a little how it looks inside the case too. Big block right in that hides everything is not an option. Not that I look for the RGB tho. I will put the light on white. Esthetics is also up there. Tho my PCs is on tight budget in that regard.

I don't want to hijack this thread, so I hide this picture and the info here.

It is taken today. And I Know it isn’t that steady with the cables hanging back there. But I wait till the new cooler comes so I can redesign cable placement. It has to work for now.

All fans are Corsair as you see. But if I was to change to a normal cooler, then I would have to buy 2 fans for the top as well. Because those fans on the cooler is SP and not AF. Don’t have any AF fans that is good enough laying around. And I had to rethink air pressure in the case too. Too many fans blowing out isn’t good ether, but open top will make the case a dust magnet.

I watch OC3D and Tiny Tom. Here he shows some grafts about MSI Z390 MEG ACE. Seems MSI is good on the new CPUs from Intel.

These are not tests abut latency, but I guess the timing of games will be sort of coloring latency. It is how fast the card are handling work. Would be great to see latency in the tests tho. Do anyone tests that?

Wouldn't 16GB of memory be sufficient for your use case? If so you could drop down to that and get the 9900k. The money you save could go into get an A version rather than P version of the board and the rest towards a nice cooler.

I always go Asus. More out of habit nowadays than anything i've looked into recently but they always took DPC latency seriously on all their boards whereas that wasn't always the case with the others. I find Gigabyte seem to load their boards with the latest tech whereas Asus generally stay on the proven tech side. I sort of avoid MSI.

(budget has flexed slightly)

This is not at critic or anything. Just wonder  why you go for a Intel m.2 and not Samsung. I use Samsung myself, but I am not a fan of it. Just use it. Don’t hate it either. Just wonder.

And I know your CPU will be real cool. I am saving the envy till you actually get it…

Okay, the reason is, I will more than likely be getting this thing from a company called PC Specialist which is in the UK. For not much more than I would pay to build this myself, I get something that is built for me, OS installed and tested and delivered to my door, so I reckon that is good value.

The downside, however, is there are limitations on components used in the build.

I only want/need a 0.5TB system drive and, unfortunately the only ones on offer that look any good at that size are the intel ones, and they get a reasonable review on Tom's Hardware.

They do have Samsung but at 1TB, and £134 more I don't think I need it. I'd rather spend the extra money on a better CPU.

Haha! Yeah, still not ordered it yet. I will announce when I do, if I do, right here :D

Wow! Just checked the pricing here in the US. It's listing at $2,176 USD for all that.

Yeah, a bit expensive...

I'm looking at it this way... I'm nearly 60 and this will more than likely be my last ever computer, so may as well go out with a bang. At this level of spec, for what I will be doing with it, I reckon it will still be going strong in another ten years time, which is a very long time in PC terms.

No doubt games will be making ever increasing demands on CPU and GPU but I'll be happy to turn down the graphics options and will probably still with older games like DOOM 2025 (not announced yet).

What??!  Do you expect to only live for a few months more???

I would have said "This will more than likely be the last computer I buy this decade" instead!

I'm hoping to get to May 2020.

My dad lasted until he was sixty and his dad 59. Then again, I may last a little bit longer because I've never smoked and lately I don't even drink.

A decade? I doubt it haha!

Let's make a date to have this conversation again in 2029 ;)

Unlike your genetics, my family tends to live several decades past their usefulness!  LOL! 🤣

Who's to say I'll still be of use this time next year... My missus constantly reminds me how useless I am now haha!

And she probably has a point... I disappear into my little studio and forget about all those little tasks I should be taking care of 🤪
