You can use curves, or straight lines, or draw your own, with automation on either the master bus or some other common bus just before the master.  (I just apply it to the master bus, but that's just me - not sure why someone would want to go through the extra inserting of another bus just for that purpose, but it is a big planet, so who knows).  :)

Bus automation works the same as track automation

That said, one must have a master bus setup.

All the templates provided with CbB have a master bus defined.

Did you use a template provided with CbB or did you start with your own template or blank project?

LOL @ CBD...I call it that too!

 

The W button will enable Write Automation on that track or buss. Turn it on, tweak whatever control you want to automate during playback.

From there you can edit the automation lane with the pencil tool or whatever.

The R button next to it (enabled in the above picture)) turns on Automation Read. 

Remember to turn Automation Write off as soon as you are done actively working with it, or you'll be scratching your head later with why your tracks are behaving weird.
