Hey Craig, well I meant a  'cure' I guess...sorry.

So far here at least it's not clear yet (but testing has started) that people that recover will not be affected again by this virus.

See?  That's what I detailed above.  Once the body figures out exactly how to defeat something, it keeps the "battle plans" ready for the next time it encounters the same thing.  Then, instead of trying multiple approaches, it just nukes the invaders fast!

I Roger that, have doubt too the numbers China report are true and would not be surprised many more people died.

but probably Western people in China will clarify this soon.

here after todays increase again of over 10% new confirmed cases vs 1 or 2% recoveries, the government stays calm and confident it will be better soon.

so does the rest of European leadership.

I personally think they just don't know what to do anymore, which I can understand.

Heh, just realize that pretty much ZERO percent of all politicians are qualified to decide anything (e.g., military-wise, economics-wise or health-wise).  They just parrot what they're told to say and hope they look good doing it.  Heck, if they spent a fraction of the time they use trying to subvert their fellow politicians and used it to learn something, we'd be a lot better off!

Now the public at large doesn't want the most qualified,  they never have. Sorry, shouldn't be on this subject. I'm off to have a Corona :D

That's really not fair to let just 99.99% of the politicians give the rest a bad name.

i find some TV Stations (claiming they're news channels) the worst.

'news readers' and 'reporters' of some stations are the worst pieces of s.....t I've seen in a long time.

it's not like they have to come up with the stuff or do any actual work of any kind.

only to look at what they're presented (sure, here's the motivation and test results for you sir), and here is the instruction for you to perform this thing, sir.

But even then, pwaaaa pwaaaa pwaaaaa (cartoon sound), fail

We need to add a task in the process for them, so they can feel good about it and it's nailed.

But it needs to be a simple task that can only be done one way  (while letting them think it's  a difficult job).

Every member knows no forum here allows politics.  Even the Coffee House. Please don't interject politics into these discussions.

I wish you all will be safe and that we will all come out of this healthy.

Hey Craig - I said I prefer capitalism (with controls) but I'm not above saying that there are pros and cons to both systems.

I think controlled capitalism has more pros and fewer cons than socialism or communism.

My post wasn't meant as political but as an analysis on how different systems are treating the virus. We have to learn from examples or we don't learn anything at all.

Right now with a fraction of the population of China, the US has more cases of the virus according to the middle of the road media that are most trustworthy (I do not trust anything to the left of The Atlantic or the right of The Hill - and that means I trust neither Fox or MSNBC). That shows the result of isolation and ramping up the defense a thousand percent.

It's only a method of comparison, and is not meant to show political bias, but reaction bias.

We have two choices -

1) Isolation to "flatten the curve", this minimizes the deaths and the stress on the medical system but prolongs the pandemic

2) "Herd immunity" - let it run wild and take the casualties in stride, no hospital beds left, no ventilators left, and doctors have to decide who to try to save and who to give a death sentence to. This maximizes the casualties and gets it over with quicker

There are pluses and minuses to both methods. Since I am probably in the age group that doesn't get a ventilator, I prefer choice number 1 (In Italy, anybody over 60 doesn't get a ventilator and many under won't either).

We all watch and listen to the media. The attached diagram is from Politifact, which shows no bias to either side of the aisle and has won Pulitzer Prizes for honesty. The three sections in the middle of the chart are all I trust, and no, I don't trust them 100% either, only about 90.

today here in Netherlands again over 10% new cases, over 10% deaths (and therefore these numbers also rise again).

our 'leaders' strongly advised people to stay home, basically the daily brilliant response / action.

wonder why the hospitals haven't united yet and put the complete government in a coma, the medical staff is doing work/hours and a job that is almost impossible, and our leaders say 'you're doing great, thank you so much !' .

we could tell the labs there's no need to test herd immunity for Corona anymore, we're testing it on the people of our country btw.

Two  internet 'headlines' I saw today:

Perfectly healthy 44 year old Texas male dies from COVID-19

101 year old man survives COVID-19

Obviously not perfectly healthy ;)

Anyone getting COVID-19 is technically sick. Once dead, he is no longer sick, but certainly not perfectly healthy.

Headlines can be a source of amusement.

We're in economic self-isolation. All gigs cancelled between March 17 and mid October.

Fortunately the mortgage is paid and other than my car payments, we have zero debt.

It is irksome when the flames of panic are fanned by reports that older people are at higher risk.

Of course they are!   They are more easily killed off by ANY disease including the common flu.

Good chance my FIL died of it last month. We will never know as he had poor health and died at home after complaining of not being able to breathe.

The medical staff is already over-worked and now this. Out-Patient service where my wife works is still open even after being exposed to patients that have tested positive and the staff had no masks. Like telling police to do your job with no gun, bullets, and  bullet-proof vest!   To top it off people still think it is nothing or it doesn't apply to them.

reading people with heart problems are at high risk not surviving when they get sick, worries me in US are a lot of obese people.

hoping they would be warned to protect themselves (masks/gloves etc) and be safe by staying away from EVERYONE as much as possible.

I was texting with my friend who's a nurse and he said they're managing, but most of the staff is starting to drop from exhaustion.  I'm looking forward to this whole situation going away because we like to go bowling where he invites several of the hotter female nurses to join us.  :D
