Hello guys,

Orb Producer Suite 2.0 is ready 🙂

https://www.orb-composer.com/

Feel free to come back to me if you have any question !

Hope you like it 😉

Enjoying the new features Richard.

One issue I have so far is that none of my DAWs have picked up the VST2 versions which are located in

C:\VST64\Orb Producer Suite

This is on the plugin scan path of all my DAWs (Cakewalk by Bandlab, Studio One 5 Pro, Reason Intro, Cantabile).

Thanks Richard, just trying it again now. Will update this post when I have downloaded and tested it.

UPDATE:

Cakewalk; I had to do a full re-scan for it to detect the VST2s but seems to work OK.
Studio One detected the VST2s and worked OK after a normal startup scan.
Same for Reason.
Cantabile VST3 works fine but the VST2 playback marker moves without the transport being activated although notes are only sounded when you hit the transport play button.

Wow thanks so much for this extensive tests, very useful 🙂

Thanks Richard.

Also, I must admit I didn't really "get" the harmonize button until I saw this video. I was expecting something that would create a harmony to a melody made within Orb PS so the need for an external MIDI file seemed at odds with that to me, but as this video reveals it's much more than that!

Hexacord has released what looks like a plugin version of their Orb Composer product, Orb Producer Suite

https://www.orb-composer.com/orb-producer-suite-2/

I have Orb Composer and like but also hate, it's very interesting but is hampered by some really bad software design.  These plugin versions look interesting because they may avoid a bunch of those issues.

They sent out a coupon for the new suite to subscribers to their newsletter today: ORBREWARD takes the price from 99 euro to 79 euro.  Offer good for 15 days it says.

They have a demo version:

https://www.orb-composer.com/try-orb-producer

I'll be picking this up later today.  I was waiting for the coupon or a discount at dealers to show up.  It's not clear if the 99 euro offer includes VAT, since they don't take anything off when you order.  If they aren't adding VAT to it for EU customers that would mean US customers are overpaying (my pet peeve).  I'd recommend trying the demo version though, they don't have the best track record.  I'll post more when I've had a chance to try it.  It looks a bit like Captain Chords.

They no longer have a demo.   They use "Let's Encrypt" for their SSL for a business website?"Let's Encrypt" mainly used by malware / hackers.

Did they sign their exe file with a valid certificate or did Windows give you a yellow warning not to install it because of "unknown" software?

Those reasons above makes me NOT want to buy this software.

Another warning sign is they decided not to sell Orb Producer 3 on https://www.pluginboutique.com

Pluginboutique uses Cloudflare, Inc for website SSL verification.

All those warning signs .... it's like, I'm not going to buy that product unless they make me feel more safe about buying it.

Just having "Let's Encrypt" as their SSL makes anything they say on their website not worth anything.  If they used at least Comodo (which is now Sectigo) would be the minimum of a well known company.   The "free" SSL is used by so many hackers, scammers, malware, etc.  Their website is actually much worse using that ...than if they just had a http without https.

Edit:  They also changed their website name from https://www.orb-composer.com to https://www.orbplugins.com

So, are they just trying to run and hide from something?  changing names and stuff?

This is really something you should look at... will they be there in the future to support the product or just disappear?

Is this even the same company?? They don't have a demo any longer...so how do we know it's not a scammer?

They are so absent minded they forgot to remove the old website from the legal terms?  https://www.orbplugins.com/mentions-legales/

All these warning signs smells like scammer website.

Edit 2:

https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/orbplugins.com

* 67 out of 100 on scamadviser ... websites that don't get 100 I don't trust!

* The Tranco rank (how much traffic) is rather low

* The age of this site is (very) young.

Pretty sure that's legit.  It let me login and shows all my purchases (going back years).  That said the new site does seem to have some technical issues.  My product list page at the bottom has this

image.png.fd436a8fb4c968654d87e6c7abf0fbb3.png

But the list looks correct and it has all my serial numbers/download links.

There is nothing really wrong with Let's Encrypt.  It's math.  The idea that the extra verification higher levels of SSL certification actually protects you is just a rent seeking racket.  This is because SSL certs are being used to do two things.  The main thing it does is encrypt the communication between you and the site.  Let's Encrypt certs do this as well as any Sectigo cert.  The second thing, where it also can verify a site because some trusted 3rd party issued the cert and they are trustworthy, is maybe a bit of a marketing haze.  Sure they have painful and difficult processes to try and validate who is asking for a cert, but even that, at the end of the day may not be enough to stop someone from faking an identity.  The history of SSL certs is filled with failures and revocations.  It's not as gold standard as they might hope you believe.

As for signing Windows binaries, again another rent seeking racket.

Acting like Hexacord, or any music plugin making company, is a giant company that is making vast amounts of money is a bad idea.  It's most likely a barely generating any income kind of business.  Best to treat it like what it is.

With no music software company can you count on "support".  Just look at iZotope's recent announcements for example, shutting down products.  And others.

And yeah, that may not be something you are comfortable with.  The idea that you buy an expensive license to software that might not work and that you won't get any help can be a bit of a crazy thing.  I have several thousand dollars worth of software I can't even run anymore due to copy protection issues (we have shut down the authentication server and if you try to move the software to a new machine you can't get a license for it).  It happens.

As a rule I don't expect anything I buy (correction, I license -- you never get to buy) to ever really work 100% right and I'm reasonable in expecting that the company that made it might not be able to help me or fix it.  Setting your customer expectations too high (especially with Hexacords) would be a bad idea.

Still it's an interesting product that I've not regretted much of what I've spent on it.  But I don't have a lot of faith they are long for this earth and I wouldn't count on it working 100%.  Still I've had fun using it and made interesting music with it.
