Moving stuff to latest Cakewalk version, can't find plugins

Dennis G Pelton

Question

We've been using Cakewalk for decades, decided to finally get up-to-date as far as versioning is concerned. Bought a new computer, installed the current Cakewalk, started moving everything over. Exported our work as bundles from old CW, imported to new CW. Everything seems to be there EXCEPT we're getting "can't find plugin" messages.  I'm guessing this is custom reverb settings that were created back in old CW. Is there a way to move those settings/plugins over to new CW?

Thanks!

MY guess is that the projects in the bundles use plugins that were only present in your previous version of Cakewalk.

What you might want to do is see if you can work out the exact plugin generating the error message and then install the version of Cakewalk that contained that plugin.  Or just reinstall your previous version of Cakewalk so that it's plugins can be reinstalled

Once you have done this, uninstall and reinstall Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Previous version of Cakewalk is on a different computer but still available. Is there a way to install the plugin involved in the new Cakewalk?

Depends on the plugin.  Most plugins involve more than simply copying over the DLL (or VST3 file) from the VST folder on the old computer.

There are usually files present in other locations that are needed as well for the plugin the work properly. There may even be registry entries needed. You're better of finding exactly which plugin the project calls for and installing it from its actual installer.

Which plugin is missing and which version of Cakewalk did you use? Did that plugin actually come with your previous version of Cakewalk?  You will really need to know the answers to these before proceeding.

Those are plug-ins from the 32bit DX format Cakewalk Audio FX1 bundle. 64bit hosts like CbB cannot load 32bit DX plug-ins. If you want to open the project with the plug-ins included you will need to install a 32bit version of SONAR.

Thanks for the answer, sad tho' it is.

We'll have to reconstruct the FX in the new version. 😞
