  1. I'm a newbie at audio production but have used a Adobe Audition for simple stuff since 2007. Currently using Cakewalk and taking online classes for audio production. I'm almost done with the basic course, but have a problem with the final exercises. I'm mixing about 16 tracks and a lot have plugins of chorus/reverb/eq. Whether I play them back or try to mix down to a WAV file, I'm getting clicks, pops, static, and dropouts. The audio still plays and I don't get an official pop-up on the screen when it's happening, but I can clearly hear it, i.e., a lead vocal in the middle cuts out or a harmony vocal on the left or right cuts out with static and returns a few seconds later. I have a new HP Envy desktop I got last year using Windows 10. I've tweaked settings for my buffers and have tried to "freeze" tracks and mix down to smaller groups - still have issues. Let me know what tips you recommend so I can get the right settings and have normal function without dropouts. Thanks! NOTE: I've accessed this file below, done all that it says, but still hear hiss and dropouts during playback even though transport keeps on rolling. http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Troubleshooting.18.html
  2. I purchased Korg's NanoKontrol2 to use with Cakewalk CdB as a simple control surface for recording my practice sessions. Basically, I got tired of using my mouse and keyboard to control the application's faders and transport controls. After a few missteps at getting the controller to sync up with Cakewalk, I finally got it to work as designed. And I gotta say, this controller works quite well due to it's simplicity. First, I did a lot of research around control surfaces, MIDI controllers, Mackie controllers, and how they can be integrated into your workflow with ACT, AZ, CdB's General MIDI controller, Mackie. We're talking hours and hours and hours. My baseline was trying to get my M-Audio Oxygen 61 mkIV to work as a controller. It took even more hours to figure out how to map it with ACT (AZ was a bit too complicated) to get it to work. I ended up using the MIDI Learn function by right-clicking whatever fader, button, rotary to enable the Remote function. That worked well enough. I swapped out the Pan control for Gain, and even got the master fader to work without much hassle. The only thing about the Oxygen 61 is that it takes up a lot of desktop space. That's why, after a lot more research, I settled on the NanoKontrol2. It's small, simple to setup with the Mackie controller (I'm using msmcleod's Mackie controllers) once you update your PC to Windows 10 S1H2. Here's a run down of my process for getting the NanoKontrol2 to sync with Cakewalk: 1. Update Windows 10 to S1H2 update. Don't even try to start using the controller without doing this first. If you don't, have a couple bottles of aspirin on hand. Be sure to restart your machine after the update is installed. Don't install the driver until after you've done this. 2. Download and install the most recent Korg MIDI driver for Windows 10: https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/product/1/285/ 3. Reboot your machine again so that the OS can configure and recognize the driver. 4. Once your machine is up and running, open the Unistall Korg USB-MIDI Device utility from the Windows Start menu. No. We're not going to uninstall the driver. We're going to make sure that the NanoKontrol2 is listed in the first 10 MIDI ports (MIDI0 through 9). If it's not, it's most likely listed in the next ten. If the controller doesn't show up in the first 10 slots, you'll have to remove one device from one of the slots. This video explains what I'm talking about: 5. After sorting out your MIDI devices in Step 4, hold down the Set and Record buttons and connect the USB cable to the controller. This puts the device in Sonar mode. The Stop button will be lit. 6. Launch Cakewalk, go to Edit-->Preferences-->Midi Devices and select NanoKontrol 2 for input and output. HIt Apply, but don't close the Preferences screen. 7. Go to Control Surfaces and add a new MIDI controller by clicking the funky yellow button in the upper right-hand side of the Preferences screen. Select Mackie Controller or MMcL Mackie Control #1, if you installed it. Associate the NanoKontrol2 with the controller's input/output ports and click OK. 8. Create a new project and insert a new track or two or three or whatever. Test the controller on whatever track you want. If you want to use the Master bus, hold down the Cycle button and press the right Track button. To go back to a track, hold down Cycle and press the left Track button. There you go. Keep in mind that my needs are simple as I'm just recording practice sessions and not doing much in the way of production. At some point I'll figure out how to control T-Racks5 plugins and the like as well as VSTi. But that's for a later day. I'll probably get another NanoKontrol2 for that purpose. If you have feedback, go ahead and send them my way. Cheers, Steve
  3. Hello, there! Colleagues, I faced an unusual problem. I have 3 audio files in my project, with a total duration of about 20 minutes. And some VST synth tracks. I edit these audio files for the purpose of grid binding. As a result, I get about 50 or 100 small segments. The original files are not changed. And here is the problem itself: the more small segments of audio inside the project become, the longer the project opens and saves. It can takes about 5-7 minutes and appears windows 10 system pop-up window , indicating that the program is frozen, and it is proposed to wait, or exit the program. I paid attention to the swap file. While I'm working on the project, it starts to take up 33 GB, and after rebooting the system it takes 16 MB. Perhaps the fact is that the Cakewalk uses non-destructive audio editing. My computer: intel core i5 10400f, 16gb ram, ssd drive. Cakewalk version is 2022.11 (build 021). Question: how to solve this problem, and how to record and process subsequent projects with long audio files?
  4. Hi fellow CbB users. I've run into an issue where I have finished recording all the analogue instruments and now decided to speed up certain sections. When I do this the analogue audio starts to glitch all over the place. I want to be able to speed up in places and slow down in others (as if it were a live recording). I've read about tempo maps but cant find anything within the documentation that describes how to do this for analogue AND synth/midi based instruments. I can, for example use the tempo map to increase the tempo of the EZ Drummer track but the audio might or might not follow suit but always glitches (to the point that all controls become unresponsive and I have to force quit through Task Manager - Windows 10 fully patched, cakewalk fully patched). Anyone out there that can lead me by the nose on how to do it or confirm that its not possible to use a tempo map on the fly like this? Many thanks GBT
  5. Hello This post is merely me trying to poll the group since I upgraded to W10 and am having issues that might have to do with the Echo drivers. I postponed my W10 upgrade for a long time thinking that the non-existant W10 drivers might be a problem with CW. I heard from several of you that there were no issues, so I took the plunge. Unfortunately, I'm having issues with fx plugins and virtual midi instruments causing dropouts, and since I heard that there were no issues from some of you so long ago, I thought I'd check again. Please let me know if you're on W10 and have the Echo Layla 3G if you have any performance issues with CW or not. I'm trying to decide if it's time to get a new audio interface and money is an issue at this time.
  6. Hey Everyone! I noticed that whenever I exported a song that I made in Cakewalk as a wav file, it was very bass heavy and muffled. Everything sounded fine in Cakewalk, though. I managed to track the source of the problem to the Windows audio "enhancements", and turning them off makes all of my songs sound the same in and out of Cakewalk. Which leads me to my question: Should I make the song in Cakewalk and totally ignore how it sounds with the audio enhancements (thus making it sound nice for people who don't have the enhancements turned on, but probably pretty bad for those who do.) Or, do I change the way my song sounds in Cakewalk so that it sounds good with the audio enhancements, making it sound less good without them. Ideally, I would like my music to sound great for everyone, so I'm not sure what I should do. Thanks!

Thankyou !
  8. When I open the program, I'm greeted by the small rectangle window that says cakewalk. It never progresses past this screen. I've used the workaround that involves renaming the cakewalk core folder in the appdata folder, which works, but I end up having to do so every time I launch the application. Even a minute after closing the program it does the same thing when I try to launch it again. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.
  9. I'm running SPLAT on Windows 10 (version 1903, OS build 18362.959), 32 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 3.7 GHz. I have three drives: System C:\ (232 GB), an SSD for Sound Libraries and another SSD for finished songs (1TB each). I have maxed out my C:\ and have more VST files to load. Do I: 1) Get a larger drive and migrate all my C:\ data to it? 2)Migrate program files in C:\ to one of my SSDs? 3)Another option of which I'm currently unaware. With any data migration, how do I tell SPLAT where to look for the files in the new location? Thank you, Twanghang
  10. If you work in Cakewalk on Windows 10, which Windows 10 do you run? Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro?
  11. How did you organize your archive? How do you store files? What hardware do you use? What software do you use? How do you catalog the files in your archive? What software do you use? I want my archive to be reliable. I want to find files in archive quickly. I want to use automated archiving and cataloging tools, schedule. I want to make few copies of archive automatically. I want to store copies of archive in different locations. I run Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
  12. I want to make mastering of piano music. These will be piano pieces. Each will last from two to three minutes. I will combine these pieces into the album. The album will have from eight to ten pieces. The finished recording will have only a piano - one instrument. After mastering I will upload the finished recordings to different music sites - this will be the only way to distribute these recordings. There will no be physical media - CD, DVD - in distribution. Next I will make new piano pieces. I will make budget from tasks solving. First - what I need to solve the task? Next - how much money I need for it. I want to build a computer for Cakewalk. I will use Windows 10 Home 64-bit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I discussed "How much SSDs to use on computer for Cakewalk?" here: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/19334-how-much-ssds-to-use-on-computer-for-cakewalk/ Thanks to everyone who gave their opinions. I took into consideration. My main conclusion: I will use two SSD. First SSD. Disk C on it. On disk C - Windows 10 Home 64-bit, applications including Cakewalk. Second SDD. Disk D on it. On disk D - current project work files. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next I discussed "Overclocked RAM or not for Cakewalk?" here https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/19444-overclocked-ram-or-not-for-cakewalk/ Thanks to everyone who gave their opinions. I took into attention. My main conclusion: I will not use overclocked RAM. I will use traditional RAM: for example Crucial CT 3200 MHz, Kingston KVR 3200 MHz. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- At that topic abacab have wrote: At that topic I have wrote that I want to make mastering of piano music. Next I asked: abacab asked me clarifying question: I can describe how I want to do. I will do it in this topic. I agree with abacab: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, I want to make experiment: what way will be suitable for my musical art tasks? Some piano pieces will be in Rondo musical form. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rondo Some in Binary musical form. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_form Some in Ternary form. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ternary_form Some pieces will be Fantasia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasia_(music) Some will be Scherzo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scherzo Some pieces will be Waltz. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltz_(music) Some will be Polka. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polka Some will be Romance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_(music) Every pieces will last from two to three minutes. What is the best technical way for me to express my musical ideas? I want to fit technical requirements of musical sites on which I will distribute my music. For experiment I will use all variants you listed. I will use scheme: first variant - few compositions, second variant - another few compositions, third variant - another few compositions. Next I will analyze result and will make conclusion which way is suitable for me. Do I understand right way: Virtual Instrument piano in the box - it is VSTi? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology

  16. I just got notification tonight, that Windows Update was waiting for me to tell it to install the Feature Update to Windows 10, Version 2004 maintenance, so I kicked it off, and it installed fine. Being rather suspicious of Microsoft updates, of this nature, after the reboot I went into the Advanced Power Plan Options, to make sure the USB Selctive Suspend was still Disabled (I had it set like that prior to the maintenance, so, kewl), but I also went to Device Manager, to see what the USB Hubs and Network Adapters Power Management tab settings looked like. Sure enough, the Feature Update to Windows 10, Version 2004 maintenance ended up resetting the Power Management settings, for each of the USB Hubs under the Device Manager's Universal Serial Bus Controllers category. All of the USB hubs had the option checked, which is: "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". I had removed the check from that parameter, for each and every one of my listed USB hubs, AND that parameter should have followed the settings in the Power Plan, which has USB Selective Suspend disabled. SO - for anyone who has, or will, install the Feature Update to Windows 10, Version 2004 update maintenance, through Windows Update, I recommend that you do as I did, and check Device Manager USB hub Power Management options, to make sure WIndows didn't sneak in and alter those USB hubs, to allow Windows to turn off those hubs, as Cakewalk does not react well to having devices turned off, while you are in a project. Here is a screenshot of the Power Management settings for one of the USB hubs: Bob Bone
