About Me

  1. When I try to use the step sequencer or loop construction view they are light grey and not available. Does anybody know how to enable them?
  2. i don't know if this is normal, but every time i play my project from the beginning i can't hear the first beat. it's throwing me off a bit, especially being a new user. can i fix this or do i just have to deal with it?
  3. Hello This is my first post so hope I am in the right place. I am using Cakewalk ( Version: 2022.09 Build 027, 64 bit ) If I create a drum pattern using the Step Sequencer and the free Sitala drum synth, and then go into the track and create say a duplicate of 3 linked clips from the clip I just created ( using Copy Special and Paste Special ), I get the linked clips as expected, but as soon as I modify the initial clip, then all the Step Sequencer note events get duplicated, so one kick drum becomes 4 kick drum etc ( if that makes sense ). I also get the same problem if I use the Drag / Drop linked clip creation method. I'm hoping this is something I am doing wrong - I have looked in the docs but can't seem to find anything relating to it, but I could be looking or searching for the wrong doc content! If I create a drum pattern using the Piano Roll then the linked clips all work as expected with no note duplications. Thanks in advance - if the above is as clear as mud please tell me so and I will try to elaborate. D
  4. Hello Everyone, I have noticed it is impossible to import audio samples directly into the cakewalk step-sequencer. Im currently running each sample through a seperate plugin... But is there a way to enable a direct import? (Like in FL) Thanks.
  5. First, I am able to create step sequencer clips, but sometimes I have a section of a step sequencer clip that I want to work on separately from the original step sequencer clip. So I split the step sequencer clip and bounce the part I want to work on to to be a MIDI clip. Then I want to convert just that new, smaller clip back into a step sequencer clip . But guess what, Cakewalk does not give me the option to do that! It's grayed out. So what do I do? I copy the MIDI clip into a new project and I can convert it to a step sequencer clip there, I copy that newly-created step sequencer clip and paste it back into where I had been working. I shouldn't have to do this. Why is this happening? Is there something I can do in the original project so that I don't have to take these extra steps? This does not happen all the time, but occurs enough to where I want to shine a light on this. It really feels like a software glitch to me.
  6. Hi! I wonder if we could try something? Attached is a pattern and a patch. The pattern goes in like so: C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\Step Sequencer Patterns\KH Amber03b.ssp The patch goes in like so: C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\UJAM\VG-AMBER\Presets\KH Amber03.patch Open a new basic project. Insert VG-AMBER and open the step sequenser from views menu. In stepseq you load the pattern from the pattern tab. In Amber you load it from preset - other. Sooo, do you hear anything? What do you think? Now you also have the right note numbers for playing Amber. Just load this pattern. Feel free to develop it further for your own song. It's forkable. KH Amber03b.ssp KH Amber03.patch
  7. if you already created a step sequencer pattern and now want to create another on the same track, how do you go about it? It never lets me, it just takes me to the one I already created. Thanks!
  8. It appears when having multiple step sequencer patterns on a track, sometimes when bouncing to clips, the MIDI notes past the first point of drag extension is not processed. You can see this is going to happen even before bouncing to clips: BUT at this point it still plays the notes correctly, but when bouncing the step sequencer clip, the notes are actually MISSING!

  10. I don't understand why the following happens... too frequently: I have the latest version of Cakewalk (27.01.0.098), which is from January 2021, but this issue has been occurring for years: I right click on a MIDI clip, but the option to convert it to a Step Sequencer clip is grayed out. I will bounce the clip, I will apply Trim to the clip, then see if I get the option to convert the clip. None of that helps. I then copy the MIDI clip into a new project and I am given the option to converted the clip to a step sequencer clip. This has happened in dozens of project files that I have, so it's hard me to believe all these project files are somehow or partially corrupted.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2RGAhDjl-o&list=PLsOkASjk1qugSfc1W1C8qPoPrSF5K_3RA&index=25&t=663s I'm new to cakewalk and producing music generally. I'm looking in particular at what this guy does at 3:45 to the kick drum. I get that he's using a low pass filter but I've haven't seen eq with an envelope on it. Does the envelope mean that he's delaying the eq from kicking in? What VST can do this? I've been looking for a while and haven't found anything on how to do this in cakewalk I'm also using sitala to manage the samples, but what's the best way to edit samples as you go while using them in sitala? Any tips on dealing with drum samples more generally?
  12. Howdy - I wrote a CAL script, to accept input of a number of half-steps to raise or lower note numbers in a selected MIDI clip, that was created by Step Sequencer. (Transpose based on user input number of half-steps). The CAL script dutifully applies the transposition, and this is reflected in the Event List, however, when I view the Step Sequencer, for that clip, it still shows the original Note Names/Numbers as they were originally enter - prior to running the CAL script. Am I losing my already feeble mind? If the Event List has the modified Note Events, how is it that Step Sequencer looks like the Note Events were never modified. If Step Sequencer created the Note Events that show up in the Event List, and the Event List shows the modified Note Events, properly, how is it that the Step Sequencer is also not modified? As I pondered the above, I converted the Step Sequencer data with Bounce to Clip, and the Piano Roll view correctly shows the modified Notes. I then Converted Clip to Step Sequencer, and viewed the Step Sequencer data, which then also correctly shows the modified Notes. SOOOOO - it seems like there is a bug with Step Sequencer, because when Note Events are modified in Event List, those modifications are not reflected in Step Sequencer, unless I Bounce to Clip, then Convert to Step Sequencer. Can anybody else confirm this, or enlighten me as to any errors in my thinking? Thanks! Bob Bone
  13. So it's easy to insert a row, but what about a 'column' or a blank 'bar' or beat...at, say, beat/bar 4? This would then move what was in beat/bar 4 to beat/bar 5? - Unfortunately, I don't think this functionality exists, but I wanted to ask before I request it become a new feature.
  14. Cakewalk has this annoying habit of moving a converted clip from its existing take lane to another take lane. In fact, it typically places the now-converted clip on top of another existing loop. Is there a setting to stop this from happening? If not, please stop this from occurring. Keep the clip I'm working with in its current take lane.
  15. In this video I go over the step sequencer and a couple of different things it can do.. Hope this helps..😄👍
  16. Hi all! Can someone verify this bug? If you have a step sequencer part that you loop (by dragging it out horizontally), the vertical playback position indicator in the step sequencer window only scrolls by once, but not on any subsequent looped repetitions. One would expect the current position indicator also to loop in the step sequencer, so that you always see where you are, making it easier to program patterns. I'm still on 2020.01 due to intensive projects, but I haven't seen anything that indicates that this would be fixed in newer releases. Thanks for any help.
  17. I'm in the middle of returning to an old project that needs some reworking (since it was my first project and I had no idea what I was doing) and I'm having an issue with making some tracks, that contain step sequencers, show up as channel strips that contain normal volume sliders. Please see attached image. You will see I had previously had all the drum instruments located on one track but related to two. In other words, track 1 contained all the audio from track 2 which contained all the step sequencer info for the drum instruments. Having all drum instruments on one track is not ideal for mixing and getting the best sound for each one, so now I'm trying to separate the instruments and each have their own track. However, as you can see on tracks 3-8, while they produce the correct sounds, all their respective channel trips on the console have odd sliders that have double and triple digit numbers. Not only do I not know what these mean, they make it difficult for the mixing process. How do I transform these into normal volume sliders or perhaps at least each of the tracks have a partner track that contain their audio info (similar to the relationship between tracks 1 and 2.) Thank you so much in advance!
  18. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forms, but I've been using Cakewalk since the start of the year. A problem just started with changing from piano roll, to the Step Sequencer when I'm programming my drum VSTs. When I go to change to the Step Sequencer, it shortens the track, and I lose the notes I put in. Any fixes? I'll add some screenshots for reference. Thanks guys!
  19. So i am trying to use step sequencer but its always greyed out. Couple of times I have been able to use it but it gives me this error and mutes the instrument. Fix?
  20. Hello, Is there a way to automatically assign names(hi hat, snare, kick etc) instead of notes (Bb3, G#3, E3 etc) in the step sequencer? As much as I love the default drum plugin of Cakewalk I would find it much convenient that way. Or maybe someone knows a third-party plugin with an intuitive step sequencer? Thank you, spacekid.90
  21. I came across two CDs in perfect condition while cleaning out my garage. 1) The Sonar Home Studio installation disc. 2) An XL Pack that includes all the stuff listed in my tags to this post. This XL Pack was included with the Sonar Home Studio installation disc. The first CD installation disc is unneeded, correct, because I am using the free downloaded Cakewalk by Bandlab? I'd like to know then how to utilize the Sonar XL Pack.......... with Cakewalk by Bandlab. (The XL Pack add-ons are not included in the free Bandlab Cakewalk, correct?) I bought a DVD writer to upload the XL Pack CD to my computer, but have not hooked up the DVD writer yet. Thanks, Bob
  22. Hi I would like for there to be an easier way to use the Step Sequencer in Cakewalk. It´s because when I use FL studios it has a much easier time to drag and drop sounds and record in step sequencer and it would be nice if Cakewalk had a similar yet unique way to do that that doesnt take too much time. Because I wanted to do a project with just step sequencer, but it was much hard to do so. Maybe a drag and drop feature for sounds would make that easier. Let me know if there is already a way to do this, but if not, please let me know if this needs changes or if you like the idea. Thanks.

  24. I have been using cakewalk for a while and I noticed that if the "free" vst "Sitala" wasn't around a lot of people just could use cakewalk for a lot of stuff and would be restricted to specific genres. I went to the Sitala site and it looked like the makers of Sitala, "Decomposer" is ready to closely help anybody who wants to bundle Sitala to their software or service. They said they would even create exclusive stuff for the company who wants to add their software to their bundle. Sitala has helped a lot of cakewalk users therefore I believe that they should receive the credit they deserve. Also it took me 3 months to find Sitala so please bundle this software to cakewalk for the sake of beginners.
