About Me

  1. I'm a newbie here and have a glitch that's really irritating me. I've set up my Focusrite Solo with Cakewalk and everything works absolutely fine, but then if I reboot my (Windows 11) PC Cakewalk will sometimes not 'see' the Focusrite on its list of available devices. Ocasionally if I switch from ASIO to WASAPI and back it might pick it up, but usually not. Then sometimes if I reboot my PC and don't go into Cakewalk, my PC won't 'see' the Focusrite as its sound card until I start up Cakewalk. So it's like Cakewalk isn't releasing the Focusrite for general use. I'm hoping there's just a general setting that I've got wrong that's causing this, so any help, ideas or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  2. Cakewalk recognizes my Scarlett Focusrite 4i4 as a 3i3 and will only receive input from the front two inputs (which it designates as Left 1/2 and Right 1/2). I can't get Cakewalk to recognize the additional two instrument inputs (3 and 4) in the rear of the Focusrite. Cakewalk thinks it "sees" additional inputs Left 3/4, Right 3/4, Left 5/6 and Right 5/6, but I cannot access them. Grateful for any ideas; I would really like to be able to use all four inputs.
  3. Hi, I'm just started using Cakewalk last week. Initially I was using a Behringer U Phoria umc22 and gave up after three frustrating days of trying to get the driver to work. Next I bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and it was installed and working within 30 minutes. In no time I was able to record some test tracks with my guitar and Fame synth plugged in as an instrument (not as a midi). Spent several fun hours getting accustomed to Cakewalk. I opened Calkwalk this morning (without my interface plugged in) and exported a MP3 of one of my test projects. To my surprise the MP3 didn't have any audio information. I guessed that perhaps it had something to do with the fact that my interface had not been plugged in. So I attempted the MP3 again with the interface plugged in. Same result, no audio. Next I listened to the project (via headphones in my Focusrite.) To my shock and horror, the loops were audible, but my recorded tracks (visible as waveforms) were silent. I checked the preferences and couldn't detect a problem. So I tried recording a bit of piano. It was producing waveforms, but on playback there was still no audio. So I opened a sound loop in a track, it was audible. So audio is getting to my computer and getting back to me via my interface, but not any newly recorded audio. I'm such a newbie I'm probably missing something obvious, here are screens of my preferences: Here is a screen shot of my first test project. On this project I can hear my recorded audio and the loops. Now the drop-down box under the track title no longer offers the option of "Clips", only my Focusrite output. I'm way out of my depth here, I hope someone might be able to spot the problem.
  4. Hello Cakewalk community, I recently discovered Cakewalk - so I'm still in its infancy - and I have a (understanding) problem regarding the use of ASIO devices, or how to run multiple ASIO devices simultaneously with Cakewalk. My scenario is as follows: I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB 2.0 with current driver, and a Line 6 HX Stomp also with current driver/firmware. Windows 10, i7-3770K, 3.5 GHz, 32 GB RAM. I want to use the HX Stomp as an input interface, because with it I can also record the direct signal (ASIO HX Stomp Output 5) in one ride in parallel to the generated output sound (ASIO HX Stomp Output 1). I thought to myself: "A direct signal is always a good idea for reamping etc. later." Furthermore I want to use the monitoring of my Focusrite for the output of Cakewalk (Focusrite USB ASIO Output 1). Both interfaces are displayed by Cakewalk, I just can't use them at the same time. Once the HX Stomp is connected to my PC, I can't select the Focusrite. Can Cakewalk only run one ASIO device? Did I "miss" a setting somewhere? I would like to avoid recording the HX Stomp through the Focusrite - why even convert from analog to digital then back to analog to digitize again 🤔 I have tried to bring both devices to the same sampling rate, bit depth - in this case e.g. 48kHz and 24 bit, then to 96kHz, 44.1kHz and in all combinations for the bit depth, have adjusted the Windows sound settings, all possibilities and combinations - unfortunately all without success, the Focusrite always stays greyed out. Here is the display of the device settings from Cakewalk. Interface is in German do not wonder 😉 I am at my wit's end and would appreciate any hot tips. Should this be a total noob question - please forgive me 🥺 Greetings Tom
  5. I was recently plagued by glitches and pops in the playback on my Scarlett 2nd Generation 6i6. It has haunted be for over a month until i finally caved in and contacted Focusrite support. I had a chat with support engineer Jac Cheung on January 18th 2020. After hearing my symptoms, he recommended the following: 1) downloaded Focusrite Control - version 3.5.0.1754 (or newer) from their website https://focusrite.com/downloads 2) disconnect the USB cable between your focusrite USB Audio device and the computer 3) uninstall any previous Focusrite software and drivers from 'add remove programs' in the windows control panel (or settings in win10) 4) install the new Focusrite Control 3.5.0 (downloaded at step 1) 5) After finishing the installation, connect the unit back to the system 6) This will upgrade the firmware on your Scarlett audio device to version 1583 Apparently, installing 'Focusrite Control' does 3 things: * Install Focusrite Control (which enables you to configure your in/outputs) * Install the latest device driver (at the time of writing version 4.63.24) * Upgrades the firmware of the audio device (at the time of writing build 1583) According to Focusrite installing this will mainly improve stability for Scarlett 2nd Generation 6i6, 18i8, 18i20 interfaces. I can confirm that following these instructions has resolved the glitches and pops that i heard. My audio sounds great again! Hopefully this will help out others facing the same frustrations. Should anyone reading this still have issues after trying the procedure describes above, as a last resort, my might want to try your luck with the latest BETA driver that can be downloaded from http://beta.focusrite.com (which i found in some Reddit post). But you can also do what i did and contact Focusrite support to see if they can fix your problem, From my experience they are surprisingly capable. Cheers, SABO-FX
  6. Well, the road can throw you some curves and I am navigating through one at the moment. These unplanned adventures can go in so many ways so I am hoping this one results in a good outcome. I normally travel with my PreSonus Studio 6|8 which is a built like a tank interface. On a recent trip, however, it looks as if the Main Output control was bent somehow during handling. There have been some unusual audio problems I am not absolutely sure to trace back to the Studio 6|8 but could not take any chances so I had to find some type of backup plan. I had been very interested in the new 3rd Gen Scarlett series from Focusrite and the Guitar Center closest to where I am staying had them in stock. I needed at least 2 additional audio inputs and MIDI support and the 4i4 seemed to be right for the job. I have not had a chance to go to the venue to troubleshoot the Presonus but I can tell you already that I am VERY impressed with the 4i4! It is BUS Powered using a USB C connector to standard USB 2.0/3 adapter and has MIDI In and Out on the rear panel which is great. The form factor is a little over 1/3 the size of the Studio 6|8 which is great to pack it into my carry on and not worry about things getting mishandled. My road computer is a mid-2013 MacBook Pro (sorry 🙈)I mainly use it to run HALionSonic 3, Omnisphere and Kontakt 6. I can't wait to see how it works not only on the MacBook but also when I have it working with my Windows setup at home. I will definitely follow up with more of my experiences. Please let me know if any of you have worked with the Scarlett 3rd Gens as well; I would love to hear your feedback.
  7. I wanted to share this with those using Focusrite interfaces. I have been using one of the Scarlett 4i4 3rd gen for a little while with mixed results and last week was notified of a public beta driver available. When I installed the beta driver it was like I had a new interface all together. I was able to get the latency down to amazingly low levels and the performance seemed to improve greatly. I would encourage you to try the driver to see if it improves performance for you as well. Remember as this is a BETA driver use cautiously and make sure you are not in the middle of a critical project, etc. (you know the drill). 8. Focusrite’s Plug-in Collective Holiday Bundle brings together two powerful audio effects from Mastering The Mix and sonible, and a highly realistic virtual guitar instrument from UJAM. Whether you missed our previous offers or you're brand new to Plug-In Collective, this is your opportunity to greatly expand your production toolkit – for free. UJAM’s Virtual Guitarist Iron puts a world-class studio guitarist and their rig at the heart of your DAW, enabling producers of all ability levels to perform and capture authentic rock/metal riffs and power chords with their MIDI keyboard. 1000 sampled phrases in 100 rock and metal styles are expertly performed by a top session guitarist, while chord and phrasing keyswitches, and Swing and Feel sliders make it easy to construct dynamic, utterly convincing guitar parts on the fly. Grow is a stereo manipulation module from Mastering The Mix’s Animate plug-in that enables widening of selected frequencies using a psychoacoustic precedence effect. It can be applied dynamically, so that widening is only applied when the signal exceeds a specified threshold, bringing life and movement to individual tracks and mixes. Finally, the A.I.-driven Balancer, by sonible in partnership with Focusrite, automatically adjusts a range of under-the-hood filters in order to find the right spectral balance for the input signal based on a range of tailored instrumental and vocal profiles. Choose a character setting to tailor the sound – Neutral, Warm or Bright – and ramp up the Intensity to fix bad recordings or make good ones sound even better. UJAM Virtual Guitarist Iron retails for €129 and Mastering The Mix Grow retails for £17, but Plug-in Collective members can download both, plus sonible Balancer, for free from their Focusrite account, from 14th November 2019 to 16th January 2020. https://focusrite.com/news/plug-collective-holiday-bundle
  9. Hi I'm brand new to bandlab and my last recording was done many years ago with a korg D1200. I'm time and space limited so the idea of recording with minimal fuss really appeals. I'd like to be able to record in bandlab using my Samsung Galaxy S9. I'm looking at buying a focusrite scarlett solo USB interface so that I have lines in for vocals and instuments. Is it possible to then run this unit into the S9 and use the bandlab app to record? If not, is there some equipment I can buy to achieve this? ...and can i expect decent quality recordings doing it this way or would i be better off using bandlab on a laptop? Thanks Mark
