About Me

  1. Here is a short, silly song about gossip the grapevine and mostly about listening. It picks up on the Sonny Boy Williamson 2 song -Don't Start Me To Talking. It offers just a wee bit of social observation. In my last song I was trying to reproduce the sound of the amps used by the old Blues and Jump Blues performers primarily in the south side of Chicago. Hopefully, I got a bit closer on this song. It is a bit rough. That is not only my lack of talent but I also was trying to replicate the sound of that era. As always, I will be grateful for any crits., comments, and suggestions. Thanks THEY ALL TALKING https://www.soundclick.com/freddyj
  2. It has been a while since I have been able to participate on the Forum. A lot has been posted -- I have a lot of catching up to do. Here is a little number about a guy dealing with his best friend who is trying to "snake" his girlfriend. Gee, has anyone experienced this -- like in high school? This song is very rough since it has been a while since I have attempted a song. My wife and I have been sharing CoVid for the past few weeks. I am going to use that as an excuse for the vocals. They are a bit rough (the high notes were hard to reach and sustain). I am planning to re-do them as soon as I get my voice back but I thought that I would request some feedback in order to correct other errors as well. Overall, I was looking for a live performance in a small venue feel - so - complete perfection isn't necessary but clean-up is. Thanks in advance! 4. I went way "back in the alley" to pull off this song. My inspiration was a song done back in 1956 called "Ain't Got No Home" which was done by Clarence "Frogman" Henry. I think that this song does not sound anything like the Frogman's but I did borrow from the concept or idea. Besides -- unlike the Frogman --- I can not sing like a girl or like a frog. However, I hope that I captured some of the fun and mood of of his song. It is a simple song with two rhythm guitars (chords and notes), another guitar for accents and the lead break, bass guitar, drums and vocals. I used the Amplitude 1957 Fender guitar amp in hopes of getting some of the grit that seemed to be present in the R & B guitar sounds of that era. For you old guys maybe you might remember Mr. Henry's original song (when you were a wee bit of a rug rat like me). For you young guys maybe it might introduce you to an R & B song that became a crossover hit. I have learned a lot from the comments, suggestions, crit.'s, etc. that I have received from y'all and would appreciate your input for this one. Thanks! 6. Just a silly song with a bit of a message -- God loves you but the Devil does not. The guitar panned L is borrowing from some Jimmy Reed style riffs; the guitar panned R is borrowing (sort of ) from Elmore James' riffs and the lead guitar (accents and break panned C) borrow from the realm of rockabilly. Hence -- Bluesabilly. I have been trying to get better instrument separation. Hopefully, I have done a wee bit better on this one. I was going for that early Blues gritty overdriven sound on the lead. I used the Amplitude Fender 1957 amp on the classic setting. I think it came close to what I was going for. Comments, crit.'s, and suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks! DON'T IT MAKE THE DEVIL SMILE https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandID=963481

  9. Here is a bluesy number done up in the torch song style of the 1940's - 1950's (sort of). The fictitious subject of the song is bemoaning a lost love but does not want sympathy. Quite frankly, if I would dare to comment on an imaginary situation, he probably was lucky to get rid of her (I jest of course). It is a bit different from my usual Blues stuff and therefore, I would very much appreciate any crit.'s, comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks!! 11. After graduation my wife and I moved and lived briefly in Toronto. While there we met a personable guy from Australia who was also temporarily living in Toronto. Al had a great answer to any greeting inquiring as to his health or how he was doing (e.g., how ya doin'). He would respond with a simple phrase -- adequate! When my wife and I moved back to Florida I borrowed Al's phrase and started using it. I was often humored by the responses of those asking. Most were expecting the standard answers of fine, great, etc. Adequate usually knocked them off stride initially. Not too long ago I receive a birthday card wishing me an "Adequate birthday'. That knocked me off stride -- that was great! That CARD reminded me of the past and prompted me to come up with an explanation and justification of my using the phrase -- this song. It is done up in a kind of funky bluesy style. As usual the performance and mix are a bit rough and so I would appreciate any comments, crit.'s, suggestions, etc. Thanks! Oh and thank you Al for the phrase!! ADEQUATE ! https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandid=963481

  14. Here is a song about a frustrated guy in a broken relationship and he has had enough. I started this song as a Blues song (Jimmy Reed style) but somehow it morphed into more of a funky rocker and then it made a sharp turn and further changed to more of a South American Afrobeat style. I guess the point I am trying to make is that it took on a lot of different personalities as I was trying to put it together. I only hope that it is not too messy. As always your input, comments, suggestions, crit's, etc. will be much appreciated. Thanks! STOP THE WORLD https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandid=963481
