About Me

  1. Howdy, I recently downloaded a VST plugin from ghosthack.de. It turns out that all of the loops are .wav files, and there are no .dll files. I'm assuming that this is why the VST scanner in Cakewalk isn't picking up the plugin? So, can I still use it with Cakewalk? Thank you
  2. Hi all, I've been trying to start a new project based around an existing MIDI file, I've opened the .MID and copied the various MIDI parts I need across to the new project. Expression etc attributes all look to be copied across too. A couple of the tracks aren't playing correctly, however. The best I can describe it is certain expression triggers aren't working in the same way as on the original tracks. When I look at the outputs on the original .MID file, most are auto-selected to "1 Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" when I open it in CbB, except the two tracks that don't sound correct, those are outputting to "2 Microsoft...". Only problem is, only the "1 Microsoft..." output is visible in the dropdown menu, I don't have any way to access this mystery "2 Microsoft..." output. If I switch either of the affected tracks away from the "2" output, then the expression automation stops working, similarly to where I have them in the new project, and I can't switch back to the "2" output because it's not an option (the "1" output is visible to select, but the expression is still broken). To be precise, the expression automation affected is creating a pitch-bend, and this automation isn't visible in the normal way in the piano roll view in either file (other automations - including pitch bending - on other tracks are visible and working as normal). It's not that it's visible and just not firing. Is this a lack of knowledge of the workings of MIDI on my part, or is something weirder going on? Has anyone got an idea of how to find, view and preserve the pitch bending when I change outputs? Is it maybe being created not by normal expression functions, but by some custom output self-bending instrument that's baked into the .MID itself? Any ideas would be very gratefully received! - Ben
  3. I want to use KORG nanoKONTROL 2 in CC mode instead of Sonar/Cakewalk mode. I wanted to assign MIDI CC #1, #3, #11, etc. like modulation, expression to sliders. I had set them in KORG KONTROL Editor and wrote the data. However, nanoKONTROL 2 doesn't work at all in Cakewalk by Bandlab. I also can't use MIDI learning features in plugins. I tried that in Native Instruments' Kontakt, Spitfire Audio's BBCSO, Orchestral Tools' SINE Player, etc. Would you help me solve this problem?
  4. This is a relatively new problem as of my knowledge. I started using Cakewalk for about a week now and for some reason, just yesterday, my tracks that use Analog Lab V stopped producing any sound, even my midi controller won't produce sound in these tracks. I tried troubleshooting such as checking if the tracks were set to solo, if they were muted, and restarting the audio engine. I also have another plugin installed (Komplete Kontrol), but it works perfectly fine. For now, I know nothing I could do, so help would be greatly appreciated. Midi Controller: - Arturia Minilab mkII Plugins Installed: - Komplete Kontrol - Analog Lab V PC Specs: - CPU: Ryzen 5 3400G - GPU: Nvidia RTX2070 - RAM: 16GB - Motherboard: Asus TUF B450
  5. I bounced three MIDI tracks from a soft synth (MT-Power Drumkit) to audio, but made the mistake of bouncing to mono tracks instead of stereo. Other than not being in stereo, the original bounce worked fine on all three tracks as seen in the first attached screenshot. I'm now trying to bounce the three MIDI tracks to audio a second time as a stereo bounce. Unfortunately, no matter how I try to delete or wipe the original bounced tracks, I'm simply getting two blank lines on the second bounces (see second attached screenshot) which of course means there is no audio to play back. I've tried everything I can think of to remedy this and get a valid stereo bounce. I've even tried a second mono bounce, and that didn't work either, resulting in one blank line on the bounced audio track. Is there a way to fix this that I'm just not getting? Does Cakewalk only allow you to bounce MIDI to audio once? This seems unlikely to me, but certainly possible. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated...
  6. My project has randomly started "cutting out" during playback. The weird thing is it changes places every time. For example, I will hear the sound cut out at 2.10 so I replay that timestamp and it doesn't repeat. But if I keep listening it will cut out at a different spot. Every time I try to pinpoint the cutout it changes. It's not a full audio cutout, its almost as if the level is lowered for one second or so. I've tried importing other tracks and it happens to them as well, always in different places. I'm also not getting any dropout messages and I can't see any change in the waveform where the cutouts are happening. I exported the file to a .wav file to master it and the cutouts happen in the wave file as well, but at least they stay in the same place. Happens in mp3 format too. I've restarted my computer and rebooted everything but nothing works. I'm starting to think I'm going crazy. Help!
  7. Hey so a little more in detail here. I wanted to try Cakewalk i really like the UI and everything about it so far so I want to stick with it. The thing is I tried using it while being in a discord call and then launching Cakewalk and to my surprise there was no sounds. I checked and in output it says "Asio4All v2 not connected" and in Asio panel it says that another app is using it (it must have been discord). I use a Creative Soundblaster SBX Pro Studio and I have my headphones connected to it. I turned off the thing in Windows that let's one app take control over it and checked the audio format is 16-bit 48000Hz. I set that in Cakewalk (for the thing that said what new project be set as) and still there is no sound. Also sorry if my English is bad I hope you can understand what I meant.
  8. Talking with a fellow cakewalk user I was reminded that melodyne came free with cakewalk but I couldn't locate it- -I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program from control panel (In spite my windows account being an admin this kept happening)- -I couldn't Directly un/install it either since the check boxes were faded out For context, I originally avoided installing melodyne right away in fear for my PC's processing power but after being able to mix and master some tracks I want to look into it and try again. Unfortunately I was greeted with the following technical problems as I just mentioned.
  9. So I got everything installed alright, got a few plugins that sound great, everything's great except----- every time i hit the play button, it plays for .8 of a second and just stops...... idk how to fix it or what it could possibly be.
  10. Hey! I have a subscriber that follows my Cakewalk tutorials who Is blind. He is having a problem with Cakewalk crashing when using his screen reading software. (Software is NVDA) Any tips I can give him? BTW kuddos to Cakewalk! This is the only DAW that the program recognizes! I’ve included his dump files as well. Strugle to Grind_06182020_200433.dmp
  11. I just installed Cakewalk a few days ago on a Windows 10 HP laptop. I'm having trouble with the virtual keyboard controller. It works like a charm when I open a new project and add a new instrument track. (I've been using Surge as my synth.) The keys work, the sound works, the recording works. I can record several tracks and am able to use both the piano keyboard and the computer keyboard. Then I go and edit a track a bit, add an effect or two and go back to the keyboard and the synth to record again. Sound no longer works -- not just when recording, but at all. I can't trigger the synth to play. The same happens when I try to add another instrument track. Synth comes up, virtual keyboard comes up, the screen shows my keys depressing, but no sound. I've checked that the virtual keyboard is the input (Omni). Recording on the current track is armed. Mute is off. I've tried different presets, different synths. Nothing works. Once I exit the program and open with an empty project, everything works again. I'm sure there's some setting I am missing but I've had no luck figuring it out. Thanks for any help!
  12. This is kind of a polarizing piece of content, but I have met with some good responses! I realize that these views are subjective, but I feel I at least made some valid points.
  13. I have a huge playlist of tutorials on my channel specifically for Cakewalk by Bandlab. 14. I'm still getting to know this DAW, and I need to be able to figure out why I'm not getting sound. The set up I have now was working before — at least I think it was the same set up. I changed the driver mode from ASIO to WASAPI shared, and that worked before. What do I need to check to figure out where the issue is? It looks like it's set up right to me. When I play, the meters don't respond at all. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
  15. Hey guys I have this very annoying problem where whenever I toggle the input echo button when I have my USB mic connected it gives me a consistent ringing that is super loud and won't turn off unless I turned off the echo. I thought it was my mic originally but then I returned it and got a new one but it is giving me the same problem.
  16. Hey guys and girls! I've started to really love the cakewalk since I've made it work optimally. However, I stumbled upon a new problem. Every time I listen to a mix and want to change something in let's say compressor or another effect, I can do nothing. the mix just plays and I have to wait until it's done. Do you have any ideas on how to fix it? It is wildly annoying. My computer: 8 Gb ram Intel Core i5-7400 3.00GHz 64-bit Windows 10 video-1575819234.mp4

    Extreme UI Latency

I am completely new to the world of DAWs so apologies in advance for sounding clueless. I have just installed Cakewalk and I essentially cannot use it at all due to extreme lag with the UI. Anytime I click anything or even try to adjust the window, there is a 4-5 second delay before the action is registered. I am not sure how to fix this or even what settings I should begin to look into. To the best of my knowledge, all settings are at default, and my audio drivers are up to date. Does anyone have any idea what I might try to fix this issue? In case it is helpful, here are the relevant specs of my PC: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz Like I said before, I am completely new to this stuff so please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to help diagnose the issue.
  18. Upon booting Cakewalk, everything else goes silent, YouTube, any calls I might be on, any other form of audio playback stops working apart from cakewalk. As well as this, whenever I play anything in cakewalk there's a chance I get a sort of audio buffery noise, like its only playing the first tiny bit of the track over and over so it becomes this distorted drone, any suggestions on help?
  19. If you experience unexplained error notifications from your display adapter software shortly after startup, try powering up your audio interface before you power up your PC. For me if I don't power up my Focusrite 18i8 USB audio interface before restart or power up of my PC, I receive the notification shown in the attached screenshot. To avoid surges and hardware damage, I've always powered up my audio hardware starting with the audio output source and working through to the speakers (PC > Audio Interface > Monitor Controller > Monitors). But, now I power up the Audio Interface before the PC to avoid the Radeon notification shown in the attachment. My display adapter is a AMD RX 580. I had the same problem with my earlier AMD R7 250. I'm posting this thinking that I'm not the only person with this problem and that I've picked a title and tags that will allow others with the same problem to find it.
  20. Hi All, afraid I need some technical help. I (unfortunately) just bought a dell laptop (Lattitude 5480) for use with cakewalk. On paper, this thing is a beast : i7-7820HQ processor, 16 Gb Ram, Pcie(4x) SSD. It's a great laptop, very fast and capable, but turns out it's completely unusable with any audio program due to DPC latency LatencyMon shows the culprit as ACPI.sys - I'm getting latency readings of over 2500uS, which results in lots of audible clicks and pops with reasonable ASIO buffers (256) I've done all the usual: disabled c states, turned off speed-step and turbo-boost in Bios; Set all power plan settings to max performance; Disabled network, on board audio, camera, microphone array etc in device manager - but nothing works. The only thing I can think of now is to try and set processor affinity so cakewalk only runs on cores 2,3 & 4 - the DPC spikes seem only to occur on core 1. Is this possible, and does anyone have any experience or knowledge of doing this? I did attempt creating a shortcut that set the processor affinity using this article :https://www.eightforums.com/threads/cpu-affinity-shortcut-for-a-program-create-in-windows.40339/ but without much success. Is it possible to restrict Cakewalk to only use certain cores, and is it a viable technique to get around DPC Latency issues? Any advice gratefully received, as this is starting to look like an expensive mistake...
  21. OS: Windows 10(latest) Browser: Brave(latest) I just found out about Cakewalk DAW today and was trying to install the software from the website(https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk). I was able to download the "bandlab-assistant-latest.exe", but when I tried to proceed the assistant program won't let me log-in to BandLab. I used my Google account to register for BandLab, but when I try to login, the assistant program loads back to the log-in page and says "Please re-try logging in." Was I not supposed to register BandLab with my Google account? How can I download the Cakewalk software??
  22. To sequence with NI Bettery 4, I modified rows of Step Sequencer on Cakewalk 2019.05 ver. At the first clip on NI Battery 4 track, there was no issue. However, when I try to create a seccond clip (another pattern) on the same track, I have to modify rows, again. The Step Sequencer settings return to the default. This is very uncomfortable. Is it possible to keep Step Sequencer's settings on the same track?
  23. So I've recently decided (the music bug is biting me) to start making music again, but due to circumstance need to use headphones. (Can't have bass drums knocking out of my monitors at 3am) Problem: distorted sounds in headphone playback in Sonar... Details: plugging headphone into PC headphone jack it pops up a box and says device disconnected etc... anyway i can select HD Audio Device on the output and the sound plays through headphones... If i open a new project, and select the HD Audio Device RT and play sounds they come out really distorted (audio not clipping) but sounds horribly distorted. If I open an existing project and select the HD Audio Device, the sound is completely fine... I've checked the settings in preferences (from new project and existing project) of the devices and playback and they're identical. I really can't figure out why the sound is distorting in a fresh project but not existing projects when using the headphone jack output selected as HE Audio Device RT. Please help. Note: in all situations crackling n buzzing of the computer can be heard in the headphones... But sound from YouTube, and everywhere else plays back fine.
  24. I was editing a CWP file that had been edited many times before, without any difficulties. But suddenly one MIDI track stopped to handle copy and cut: if I select notes on this track and try to copy or cut them, nothing happens. This problem occurs in the Staff View as well as in the Piano Roll, and it is the same regardless of I copy/cut with the main menu or with Ctrl C / Ctrl X. The problem affects only one track; the other tracks allow for copy and cut normally. I didn’t find any freezing effect or something like in the track’s properties. Here is a video demonstrating the issue: Attached to this post is the CWP file itself. Track 6 causes problems. How to fix this? nonstop_band.cwp
  25. Hi, I recently installed the cakewalk software using the Bandlab assistant. While installing I chose the Studio instrument suite add on. When I load cakewalk, I see that the studio instruments plugins are getting categorized as FX making it impossible for me to use as instruments. Any idea what I can do to correct this? Here is how it looks like:
