About Me

  1. This is the 7th song off my upcoming album, The Instrumentalist - Last Stand https://baselines.com/?p=6230
  2. This is the 4th song on my new LP, The Instrumentalist. It is called Fighting Entropy. (Link to just the audio included below the video) https://baselines.com/?p=6227
  3. This is the third song on my new compilation, The Instrumentalist. It's called Foreverland. Thanks for listening and any feedback. Video: Website Post: https://baselines.com/?p=5954
  4. Here is the second song on my upcoming album, The Instrumentalist. It's called Bounce. My feeling is that the universe will eventually stop expanding and collapse upon itself, only to bounce back again in another Big Bang. Luckily, none of us will be around to see it happen. I also think this has happened before, but who really knows for sure? It's good to be alive. http://baselines.com/?p=5949
  5. Here's a song I just recently remixed and mastered. I wrote it a while back and it will be the first song on my new album The Instrumentalist. Video here: If you don't want to watch the video, the blog post here: https://baselines.com/?p=5945
  6. I thought I'd share - perhaps it is something you already do, but in case it's a new idea to you, it may be helpful. Up until recently, I would get the mix sounding balanced in Cakewalk and use iZotope Ozone, Tonal Balance 2 and Insight 2 on the master track to help me. I'd use the mastering assistant and then export without dither at 24bits to a wav file. Then I would load up the same plugins outside of cakewalk to master the track. The mastering assistant within iZotope will set the maximizer based on a small segment of the song. They say to take the loudest part and use that while the mastering assistant does its work. Recently, I tried to use the W feature in Cakewalk to allow me to change EQ and Maximizer level, but of course my machine is not quite powerful enough to do that. So now, I will get the Cakewalk track close using my old method stated above and export the wav file. Then I will start up a new Cakewalk file and load in the wav track only. I put the iZotope Ozone, Tonal Balance and Insight onto the master track and use the Cakewalk W to record actions related to the Ozone equalizer and Maximizer. I may have to do this on more than one pass if it gets complicated...each time saving off a wav and loading it into Cakewalk for more processing. When I get to a good point, I output the final wav file and then do a pass through Ozone standalone with Tonal Balance and Insight plugins. This allows me to get the proper volume levels throughout the song and adjust any frequency ranges that need it at individual parts of the song. You may have simpler methods, but this one seems to work really well for me. At the end of the last iZotope process, I have a master that I generally like.

    Rudy

Here's a video I made a while ago. I just updated the music that went along with it. Our dog was named for the Rudy of Notre Dame fame. Our son went to ND and we took along Rudy for some photo ops when he was just a young pup. He's 10 now but still has the energy and right outlook on life, although Thunder still does him in!
  8. This was a really fun project - I did the instruments and Darren Garrett did the vocal. I lined it up to this live performance by Bill Withers.
  9. Here is a video for a song of mine called Good Night, Chet. It's a quick trip through the last century, some defining moments from the 30s to the 80s. https://baselines.com/?p=5867
  10. My son helped me set up his video server at home and connect it to use my phone as a camera. In my back yard, a robin built a nest under my picnic table. I set up the phone to capture the videos that you can see below. I included my version of Blackbird as the music accompaniment. It wasn’t long enough, so I added in a reversed section in the middle to space it out. You can see close to the end that one of the robins was none too happy with the phone capturing his actions. He gives it the evil eye and then flies into it. Today, the nest is empty and the young ones are flying around.
  11. I found this video that was posted by Richard Buskin. I think he took an official video and put his audio to it. I took the audio out and put my version of Because. I play instruments and do some vocals on it and @kiwichrys (from Bandlab) adds more vocals. She did all 9 vocal tracks as I also did...but she handles the high McCartney part better.
  12. I just finished a book about Warren Zevon. What a tortured soul. I love this song and related to him on a number of points. This is from the Excitable Boy album which I wore out on my turntable back in the 70s. https://baselines.com/?p=5816 Hope everyone is having a great Christmas or holiday season wherever you are. Keep the faith. Steve
  13. Here's another song from the Private Lightning album. I play bass on this. http://baselines.com/?p=5797
  14. The picture here is the studio where this song was recorded, with the drum setup. This was AIR studio in Montserrat before it got destroyed by a hurricane. I played Bass Guitar on this one. https://baselines.com/?p=5800
  15. Here's a new track produced at Baselines Designs. A great old classic from when I was coming 'of age'. Ok, yeah, old. ....still kicking though. Vocals performed by the Treblettes, from down under. https://baselines.com/?p=5670
  16. https://baselines.com/?p=5550 New Bandlab collaboration @kiwichrys on vox, @michelefortunato on the bones, @rabbitwithmachinegun on Flutes. I do the rest. Inspired by a recording engineer who flew to Haiti to obtain a quickie divorce. Dean Parks played the riff that Becker altered with a talk box. 1976 Royal Scam.
  17. My buddy Doug Cross on vocals (@thelonewulfproject on Bandlab) Do you upload to Bandlab? Let me know and I will follow you and leave you feedback there. Maybe we could collaborate. https://baselines.com/?p=5499
