About Me

  1. Hi folks! I wanted to share a few tips that can really get you moving with MIDI in Cakewalk by Bandlab. Warning - veterans may still learn WATCH HERE: https://youtu.be/1115-DJPznI
  2. Is there a way to have Piano Roll View launch from the Track View to show the notes or clip I have selected? Scenario I've just recorded a MIDI clip, then I click on the "tetris" menu button (I don't know what it's actually called) in the clip's upper right corner and select Piano Roll. It seems to be anyone's guess how much scrolling and zooming out I'll need to do to see the notes in the clip I just clicked on. Same with selecting the clip, then calling Piano Roll from the Global Menu. This causes needless wasted time and frustration scrolling and zooming. Why aren't the notes I've just selected front and center? Is there any way to set things up so that my selected clip, or linear selection, is what appears in the PRV when I open it? (If not, hello feature request)
  3. Very simple feature. I love how auto-focus (or no auto-focus) allows you to see multi-color midi notes from other tracks: But I don't want to switch track focus or trigger the other track when I click on a non-focused note (for example, I'm really just trying to double a note). And this is why we have "auto lock" feature. But auto lock turns all the other track note colors to grey. /sad_face. Functionality wise, these options behave EXACTLY as they should. I just want an visibility option to enable colors for non-focused tracks in auto lock mode. This should be a toggle, since it's also VERY useful to have all other tracks grayed out so it's less distracting at times. Workflows necessitate both colored and grey background tracks at times. Cheers.
  4. Hello. I'm a newbie. I was wondering if it's possible to only use the keys in the piano roll view that I need. You see, I'm using third party plugins that don't need to use that many keys. They only need a handful of keys. And they do work, it's just that I get confused trying to navigate through all the keys on the piano roll view. There's like a ton of keys I don't need. I only need a few that do actually work when pressed, but they're not outlined or highlighted in anyway. So I have to guess which one is which. I was wondering if it's possible to modify the layout of the piano roll view to fit the few keys I need in the plugin... Does that make sense? I hope it does! I apologize for any inconvenience.
  5. Sometimes it makes me skip a beat when I dont want to and it is very annoying.
  6. Let’s say I want to write a septuplet in either piano roll or staff view. Is there any reasonable way to do this? Thanks!
  7. Greetings! I’m having an issue with midi note input. If I double click on the piano roll where I want the note in time, it always appears a 16th note to right of where I want it. Say I want to insert a note at beat 1 of measure 16. Instead of beat 1, it will be inserted a 16th note to the right. Is there some way to make the note insert where I want it to, that is, where I actually clicked? Thanks, hope everyone is well!
  8. Ok, I guess this one might be a bit too much work to build as the staff view is not that popular, but I would love to have a combined PRV and Staff view, like the screen shot below. I like working in the staff view as I'm classically trained. But having the CC lanes in view is quite essential, seeing and changing the velocity and modulation without having to right click each note. Also some actions, like changing the length of a note, are much easier in the PRV than in the staff view. So having all combined would be great. (BTW, this screen shot is from Samplitude)
  9. I just discovered that Bitwig Studio has a convenient workflow for editing the MPE pitch automation of a note directly inside the piano roll, demonstrated in this video at 5:21 Yet I couldn't find anything like that in Cakewalk by Bandlab. I've read that Cakewalk does support MPE, but where do I draw out my per-note pitch automation? Does Cakewalk even have such a feature up to this point of time?
  10. Hello again, I had a question about automating the pitch. Is there a way where I can see the automation within the piano roll so I can easily pitch bend the notes?
  11. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forms, but I've been using Cakewalk since the start of the year. A problem just started with changing from piano roll, to the Step Sequencer when I'm programming my drum VSTs. When I go to change to the Step Sequencer, it shortens the track, and I lose the notes I put in. Any fixes? I'll add some screenshots for reference. Thanks guys!
  12. I am trying to select multiple events in the PRV. I can't do it by right-dragging, because I want to select events that are in a rectangle that contains events I do not want to select. The only instruction I can find (Help fails to launch in CWbB) says to use the Shift key to add to the selection, but that is not working for me: it just select the next clicked event and deselects the last one. Thanks for any help Nick
  13. Hi, new user here, hope I'm in the right place in the forum, apologies if not! I imported a MIDI with both right and left hand piano notes separated on different tracks to spiff it up. Editing the right hands notes in the piano roll sounds fine. Left hand notes, however, are off-key (E flat sounds like E). I scoured my track settings and couldn't find anything different between the "right hand" and the "left hand" tracks. There are no FX applied. This makes editing... difficult, due to the left hand notes sounding incorrect, even when the right notes/chords have been input. The problem persists if I move the left hand notes into a brand new track with a new instrument. and out of the original MIDI track. I tried Google, to no avail. Any input is appreciated!
  14. Hi, I'm new to Cakewalk. I've noticed that when i record through MIDI keyboard and i wish to edit a note that's been played out of time through piano roll, the notes (shown as lines) tend to like to stick to each beat rather than allowing me to simply drag it wherever i want it. I can usually hear exactly where i want a note to fall just by listening, and looking at the playback, but then the software won't allow me to drag it to that exact place. It doesn't sound quite right when it's exactly on the beat because the rest of the notes have their own sort of... flow. Is there a way to allow for more flexibility in terms of dragging notes, for example decreasing the fractions by which a note can be dragged/ not weighting them towards the beats? thanks! Lucy
  15. Hi guys, Hope you're well. Is it possible to have a separate piano roll set up per track? For example I have a midi bass track that i'd like to see the piano notes but an EZ Drummer track that i've set up custom kit list on. Currently the same view persists across all tracks until changed - but interestingly if I use a different screenset it resorts back to the piano note view. Best wishes, Matthew
  16. Hi everyone, I just decided to download this DAW and give it a try the other day, so yes, very new to it. All good so far, but there's one annoying issue I'm having and I can't seem to find the appropriate answer to it after quite a bit of googling & reading. I made a 4 bar midi clip for an arp, I have drawn in the first four notes of the clip and am trying to copy those 4 notes through the rest of the 4 bar clip. The problem I'm having is when I try to select those 4 notes it seems to select the whole clip, and instead of copying the notes it copies the clip over & over. What am I doing wrong here?
  17. Piano Roll - Auto Focus & Auto Lock = Link this options. Hey, guys. πŸ™‚ It will be convenient when editing multiple tracks. Then the instrument (track) can be selected through the selection of notes and at the same time other notes (instruments) will be automatically "locked" (it will be impossible to edit them).
  18. Currently, note helper text looks so bad that it's hard to discern what it says due to its colors, which blend in with white backgrounds and black lines.
  19. Hello! I have one small problem with piano roll. I missclicked once while using it (I just accidentally pushed some keys on my keyboard) and keys on notes pane became so huge. How to make them normal again? I had checked documentation but didn't find anything about this function in cakewalk. Maybe it's stupid question but I really need to solve itπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ Image is below (it's image hosting) https://ibb.co/c681pzg I am really appreciative to our helpful community. Thanks for your answer and good luckπŸ‘Œ
  20. I have a project where the percussion track has a display problem in the Piano Roll View. I can see all the notes clearly at first but as I scroll through the timeline they become progressively dim and eventually fade into blackness. The notes, however, are still there (thankfully) and can be heard at normal volume. In order to edit these notes, if I need to, I have to hunt for them by mousing over the grid where I expect them to be and when the pointer turns into the selection tool I know I have found a faded note. I can then double-click and edit the note. So I have a work-around but it does add frustration factor and time. Have you experienced this? Is there a known fix? Thanks much for your response.

that's how I felt yesterday! This is the first time I try this style so I wait for your reactions Nice feeling
  22. I was wanting to create a new piano track in a song project I was making, but couldn't find the piano roll tool. You know, the tool that enables you to draw piano notes and rearrange them. I opened up the multidock, but there were no lower tabs besides the console. Do I have to enable something in the settings in order for the piano roll tab to display in the multidock? Apologies if this is already a frequently asked question, I just couldn't find anything that helped me with this mystery as of yet.
  23. In prv and the controller window there can sometimes be more controllers than just velocity. I've seen it when using my waves tune to get midinotes from an audiofile and importing a midifile from the web. Waves tune produced a wheel controller which i wasn't interested in. I used the erase tool to remove all events in the controller. It seems that's the only way to get rid of the controller and not just hiding it. Maybe there's a workaround for this too which i don't know of? How about a rightclick option to delete the controller or its events?
  24. Repeating a question I first asked on Facebook: Is there any way to get the piano roll view to highlight a 6|6 16th note subdivision under 6/8 time instead of highlighting 4|4|4? I haven't been able to find this in the help file anywhere. I started my song by loading my standard template, which is set to 4/4 time, then immediately changed the time signature to 6/8. That gave me something that looked like 3/4 time, and I haven't been able to make it really look like 6/8 since. Is there a solution?
