About Me

  1. Hello fellow musicians, I know that headphone mixing will never be ideal, but I´m trying to make the best out of it. After testing Sonarworks Reference 4 and Toneboosters Morphit, I came up with 2 very different results, and they are so radically different that I´m sure one of them must be way better than the other, or at least it seems that they would bring up VERY different results for mixing and even more for mastering With both of them set to my specific cans (Sony MDR 7506 plugged in a MOTU): Morphit sounds very nice and full, very pleasant to hear and a setting that could sure be used to correct the phones for monitoring or listening to everyday music. On the other hand, Reference 4 sounds really "boring" flat, not full and overall dull. (like the general consensus says an ideal mixing reference should be.) Now, listening to one mix with Morphit it sounds very close to ready, but with Reference 4 it seems like there´s still a lot of eq and frequency boosting to be done. I know by heart and read a lot about the importance of a flat reference to mix, but if it is totally or as flat as possible, would it not lead to an "exaggerated" mix result? Because as I said earlier, I would have to boost a loot of frequencies to make the mix sound on Reference 4 as good as it sounds on Morphit. Can anybody shed some light on the subject? Because for me is a real mystery how both products are sold like THE solution for headphone mixing, but sound REALLY different. Cheers!

  5. Do you have a production that is giving you headaches in terms of mixing and you might be on the lookout for a different point of view? Mix Challenge is a great way to hear your songs as others might hear it. Are you a good songwriter, but not that good in the mixing realm? Maybe you're looking for a possible mix engineer collaboration but you're not on a timer/rush to do a mass-online shootout? Then the Mix Challenge might be the right place for you. And the best part of it: it doesn't cost you anything. The Mix Challenge is constantly in need for new material to work with. For this, we started a Song Pool as backup initiative to always have a track at our disposal at the start of a month, or respectively the start of the next Challenge. Ideally, this pool is always filled with 5-6 mix packs to choose from. Unfortunately, the Song Pool has run dry. If you have a production to mix, please get in touch with us via our contact script: https://mix-challenge.com/pages/contact.php More information here: https://mix-challenge.com/pages/campaign/song-pool.php
  6. Every year for Halloween, I do a number of $100 mixes for metal bands. If that's you, let me know. There are a few spots left. Message me via my contact form and submit your song. Submit here.

  11. Hello, I have started using Cakewalk by BandLab recently, and I'm impressed with the intuitiveness of console and ProChannel. Since I'm also relatively new to mixing, I can't fairly gauge its sonic quality compared to other channel strip plugins. Since plugins like iZotope Neutron, Eventide UltraChannel ($29 right now), several ones from Waves, EZMix 2 are on sale, I'd like to hear your thoughts about them and ProChannel. More directly: Should I focus on ProChannel or invest on another plugin while learning how to mix my electronic/metal fusion songs?

This collection gives you the true character of analog tape, adding warmth, character and glue to your tracks like never before. The new models include the Tape Machine 440, Tape Machine 80, Tape Machine 24, and Tape Machine 99, re-creating four classic tape recording machines from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s: the Ampex® 440B, the Studer® A80, the MCI® JH24 and the Revox® PR99. Buy the Collection for a special $€/99.99* introductory price now The T-RackS Tape Machine Collection is the culmination of 2 years of research and development on real, world-class machines, each carefully restored “to spec” and modeled stage-by-stage for incredible accuracy. Using a careful mix of convolution and physical modeling, the Tape Machine Collection re-creates the complex interplay of machine, tape, and audio to capture even the smallest detail of each machine. Give your tracks that classic low-end weight, ear-pleasing high-end, saturation and glue that only tape can provide. Each Tape Machine module offers its own unique character plus 4 tape formulas, selectable tape speed, and common controls to let you easily audition the differences between the different machines and tape formulations. Inside the T-RackS Tape Collection Tape Machine 440: The Ampex 440 series dates from the late 1960’s, and delivers an unmistakably soulful color that made this professional and historic mixing and mastering machine a legend. This superb blend of art and technology has the power to turn your mixes into finished tracks. Tape Machine 80: The legendary Studer A80 Mk II, in its various revisions, is an essential part of countless influential records. Engineered and manufactured in Switzerland from 1970 to 1988, it became the de facto standard for professional high-end multi-tracking. The A80’s sonic signature is a perfect blend between transparency and subtle harmonic enhancement. Tape Machine 24: A model of the MCI JH24. First produced in 1980, the JH24 was a staple in US studios during the 1980s. This completely transformerless, high performance op-amp-based design delivers a pristine, phase coherent and remarkably true to the source audio performance. This results in a moderate and elegant polish to your music. Tape Machine 99: The Revox PR99 Mk II is a stereo professional recorder produced by Studer in the 1980s. Engineered around a hybrid design that combines the best of discrete and op-amp topologies, this model offers a very smooth frequency response, especially on bass, with almost no trace of the typical “head bump” phenomenon. A standard for broadcast and classical music, this machine was appreciated by audiophiles for its exceptional sonic quality. Both the T-RackS Tape Machine Collection and the individual a la carte processors are on sale for pre-order pricing now. Options, Pricing, and Availability The T-RackS Tape Collection bundle and individual Tape Machine Singles are available now in the IK Multimedia online store, Custom Shop and from IK authorized dealers worldwide. 24. The Chariot - Because I Could Not Stop For Death I forked this track Sticky Fingers from Bandlab member Humphs. I found the Poem By Emily Dickinson and sang the vocals over his track. I later addd the carriage effects and re mixed in and out the piano for dynamics. Then put a distortion filter on the guitar and piano at the end for the build. I added only vocals and remixed the tracks to make it more dynamic, all in all A fun collaboration that turned out nicely. Hope you enjoy. Full version in link above
