About Me

  1. So I originally wanted to reply toi this particular comment here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3759001 But, of course, I realized not only was it years old and forum no longer active but I think this should be put out there for a larger audience to benefit from. As an artist, copyrighting things of course would quickly become expensive if done track by track. Now this may be most true for composer like myself who actually write what they record and mix later note by note and end up with sheet music and tabs for all of it. The cost of copyrighting every song I've written would easily be in the thousands of dollars range by now. So to shed some light, I must say this... (though, I'm not sure, maybe this is just common knowledge I didn't do a search to check out public awareness beforehand...): - Go through the Library of Congress website directly. - Pay the one time cost for copyrighting an EDITION. And done. It used to be about $25 last I checked I'm sure it's more nowadays. But the point is: an Edition can contain any number of pages/entries. And an edition can be added to and updated as needed indefinitely. This also is a good way of just accounting for and aggregating your pieces as an artist on the public record before releasing it to the public for consumption.

  4. So I'm struggling just a little bit with mixing so I was wondering if cakewalk has any equivalent to the fruity limiter or is there any plug in that automatically limits the volume of the track

  7. Hello fellow Cakewalkers! I keep encountering an intermittent problem when mixing: When I am exporting a session, I get 88 mS of silence in the midst of a mix. It is never in the same place in the song and I do not always get this "glitch" when I EXPORT, I would say I get this issue 75% of the time. Track count is 14, plug in count is 46. I am using TWO External Inserts to hardware. I am using the latest version of Cakewalk By Bandlab: Version 2022.11 My computer is a Dell Laptop, model G15 with an Intel i7-12700H processor, 16 GB of RAM, Windows 11, Version 22H2. Audio Interface is an RME FF802 with the latest ASIO driver. In Audio Settings: I am using ASIO, sample rate is 48 kHz, 24 bits. I have tried setting the latency buffer to 512, 1024 and 2048 samples, this does not fix my problem 64 bit engine is checked ON "Use Multiprocessing engine" is checked ON "Use MMCSS" is checked ON, "Enable MMCSS for ASIO driver" is checked off in Cakewalk and in the RME interface Configuration file: I have tried setting "ThreadSchedulingModel" to 2 or 3, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I have tried setting "ExtraPlugInBufs" from 0 to 128 and points in between, that doesn't seem to fix the problem either. I have increased "Playback I/O Buffer Size (kB)" from 256 to 512 to000 1024, that doesn't fix the problem either. "MinPluginLoadBalancingBufferSamples" is set to 192 I have tried setting the laptop to Airplane Mode, this doesn't help either. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Chris
  8. Hello guys. I would like to propose a feature that will allow the user to make the playhead stationary when playing the track instead of the waveforms moving. This would be very helpful in monitoring tracks. Thanks.

  14. I am from the old school of engineers when everything was tape, etc. During this era, there was a problem called 'crosstalk' that would invade your mix if the heads were not aligned correctly... it is when one track bleeds over into the track beside it. This is not supposed to happen in the digital realm, but.... I was doing a setup for a mixdown, setting up a kick>bass gtr 'duck' compressor to make the drums a bit more aggressive beside the bass. I set up my sends on the kick, snare, and HiHat tracks going to the sidechain on the bass compressor at the appropriate levels and noticed that during a part where I had enveloped the drums out at a certain point for the bass to ride with a keyboard part, that the drums were still peaking through onto the bass track. This confused me as digital should have no crosstalk. I began sorting out the 'equal likelihood division' troubleshooting and realized that it was coming from the drum sends that were set on 'pre' to the sidechain bass duck compressor. Then I realized that it must be the attack time as it was set to less than 0.4 msec, so I raised the attack time to 0.7 and this stopped the crosstalk of the drum peaks through the bass track. No matter how many years you have produced material, there is no end to the learning... AIN'T IT GREAT!! Hope this helps someone else in our little world of sound. If you have a similar experience that might help us, please don't be ashamed to let the rest of us in on it. I'm sure many of us could use your knowledge. Have a great day!!! 22. Hi I use fl studio to create some Synth lines and then export them as waves to Cakewalk. We use Cakewalk with these backing tracks on my band rehearsals. MY PROBLEM: Track levels are very different from song to song and we need to adjust LEVELS everytime we start a song. I realised that the exported waves are not consistent regarding to LEVELS. MY QUESTION: What are the optimal (or maximum) LEVEL a wave should be exported for Cakewalk mixing? ALSO: What are the maximum LEVEL the Master Output should be? Thank you.
