About Me

  1. Hi folks! I wanted to share a few tips that can really get you moving with MIDI in Cakewalk by Bandlab. Warning - veterans may still learn WATCH HERE: https://youtu.be/1115-DJPznI
  2. Hello I have Volca Sample connected via USB MIDI Interface (midilink mini - MIDI to USB cable) to Cakewalk. However, I am only able to trigger one step/note from my Volca. I read somewhere that "The Volca Sample uses channels of MIDI: one for each of the ten parts." Does anybody know how I can trigger all of the steps/notes from the Sample? Thank you very much in advance! Cheers, spacekid.90
  3. Hello, got the latest Waves OVox plugin and added it to the Fx Rack on an audio track. It does work as expected but unsure how to make the new MIDI out feature work. Can't seem to figure out how to send MIDI to a synth or instrument. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  5. Cakewalk & I seem to have a difference of opinion I am of the view that when I export a separated out instrument [Drumz] from ChordPulse that that should ne the only track I see in the DAW. Cakewalk OTOH, seems to think I need all the spaces for the instruments I left out when I saved the track to MIDI. Does anyone know if there's an option to save all channels on 1 track? There was no dialog box for it when I imported it to Cakewalk. The process works fine in Reaper and to a lesser degree in Waveform & Mixcraft 7. Only CWBB seems to want to sh*t empty channels all over the track window.

  8. Hello friends! I'm new to this wonderful software and community, and so far I'm loving it! I need your help, please. I'd like to ask you if it's possible to start from a MIDI file with different tracks, and change each track to a different plugin instrument of my liking? I did something of the sort via the option "Replace Synth", right clicking on a specific track. The problem is that it changes all the tracks at once to the same plugin and patch, and if I try to change another track to a different sound from the same plugin (LABS by SpitFire Audio) again it changes all of them to that one sound. I've always dreamt of reimagining some themes from my childhood like the Super Mario World themes, with more modern sounds. I know this has been done lots of times, but I'd like to try myself. Any help would be much appreciated! Many thanks in advance!!!
  9. Hello All I watched a YT video that showed routing the midi track out to TAL, but when open the midi track out, the TAL plugin isn't an option. I inserted the TAL plugin into the audio track that I want to effect, but I still don't see a way to route the midi track to TAL. Any help is appreciated!

  11. I made this video not to long ago to help answer a question for a subscriber. I thought I’d drop it in her as well. Hope it helps!
  12. Is there a way to have Piano Roll View launch from the Track View to show the notes or clip I have selected? Scenario I've just recorded a MIDI clip, then I click on the "tetris" menu button (I don't know what it's actually called) in the clip's upper right corner and select Piano Roll. It seems to be anyone's guess how much scrolling and zooming out I'll need to do to see the notes in the clip I just clicked on. Same with selecting the clip, then calling Piano Roll from the Global Menu. This causes needless wasted time and frustration scrolling and zooming. Why aren't the notes I've just selected front and center? Is there any way to set things up so that my selected clip, or linear selection, is what appears in the PRV when I open it? (If not, hello feature request)
  13. Heyo, I have Volca Sample connected via USB MIDI Interface (midilink mini - MIDI to USB cable) to Cakewalk. I selected MIDI Input and Output Devices to the Interface from the Preferences. I open MIDI track, select the Interface as Output and Virtual Controller (computer keyboard) as Input. When I press different keys on my keyboard I can only get one sound/step per MIDI track from my Volca. Is it possible to set it up in a way where I can get different sounds/steps from Volca (output) when I press different keys on my computer keyboard (input)? OS: Windows 10 64-bit (latest version) Thank you very much in advance! Cheers, spacekid.90
  14. I'm a new user, and I just imported a MIDI file, and I wan't to change the instrument, yet I don't know how. What can I do?
  15. I'm stuck in an odd spot. I keep the option to zero out midi on transport stop off in order to not have my spitfire instruments mod wheel zero out. But then if there was a pedal down, my notes sustain forever on stop and I have to manually pedal in order to get it to stop. I'd like on option that on transport stop, the pedal is zero'd out, but everything else remains the same. Cheers.
  16. For the past few years I have been buying sheet music, scanning it into the computer with SmartScoreX2 (now SmartScore64) correcting the scan and turning into a MIDI type 1 for cakewalk to use. If necessary, I have learned how to split the file into left and right versions using the Staff view. There are some songs that simply never made it to sheet music or a MIDI file. Surfing around recently, I saw someone convert an audio file to MIDI in Fruity Loops. I followed it and realized that Melodyne can convert audio to MIDI. I am currently in Melodyne Studio 5.02.2003, loaded the audio; pulled up melodyne region effects; set the pitch and quantize to 100%; and then bounced the track to MIDI in melodyne. The result was very close; The melody is there. The Bass line is a mess. I am musically rather ignorant and have developed various tricks to get by. I have a good ear and can hear when something is off. I took an online course this spring on Music Theory which filled in many of my gaps in knowledge. https://stackskills.com/p/music-theory-for-electronic-producers-the-complete-course My question is: Can anyone give me suggestions on correcting the produced MIDI which seems to have a lot of extra notes and is quite busy(?). It is in the key of D major and I assume that should help me determine which notes are correct. Any guidance would be appreciated. If I can figure out how to do this, I'll have quite a bit of work to do on Music that did not reach sheet or MIDI level!

  19. New problem. In PRV, when I play keyboard, there is no animation of keys on the display as I play. MIDI echo is on and the sounds plays normally , but keys don't go gray. I can click on keys with the mouse and they play sound and animate with parallel white lines as normal. Has something changed? Have I missed a setting? This has never happened before.

  22. Hey, I'm using Unreal Instruments' Metal-GTX soundfront in Sforzando and there are these custom slides you can put on your guitar MIDI. My first question is if this is the correct place to ask about this. As for the real question is how could I make it so that an effect would play later in the note without cutting it short and starting another sound, breaking it. Perhaps there is a way to blend them together? Maybe delay the effect's start? Particularly I want a guitar sound to play and end with it sliding to the next.
  23. Hi, I can't wait to come back home to install the cakewalk software by bandlab and try the different features, it seems very cool. I'm writing 'cause in few weeks I'll buy the new Novation Launchkey 61 MK3 that is completely created to control all feature of Ableton LIVE. As suggestion I'm asking if the staff can insert a native map for this keyboard / MIDI Controller also to use the different buttons to move and arm the different tracks and so on, it could be very nice :)
  24. Hey everybody, I'm completely new when it comes to working a DAW and making digital music. I have no idea what are the necessesary components to make this all work or not. I know how to use a lot of the Adobe Suite of softwares (like premiere, photoshop, illustrator, etc. but DAWs are a completely different animal. I decided to use Cakewalk because it seemed somewhat easy for a newcomer; however, I am having several problems and questions as I start trying to use Cakewalk: 1. Do I need an input device? I am only planning on making instrumental beats using midi or sampled sounds. I see on every online tutorial to link an input device, which seems unnecessary to me as I am willing to just use the digital akeyboard displayed inside Cakewalk. Any guidance on this subject would be appreciated. 2. Do I need an audio interface? All tutorials seem to talk about an audio interface and I am unaware of its importance to what I specifically want to do with Cakewalk. I would prefer to not have to buy a 100 dollar interface, especially since I am just starting out. 3. What driver mode should I be in? I keep hearing that ASIO is the way to go, so should I download ASIO4All and switch over from MME (32 bit)? 4. I receive an error saying 'Silent Buses Detected' followed by 'master'. What do I do? Again, I have no familiarity with the common lingo of DAWs, so I have no idea what this error message wants me to do, nor do I understand what's wrong. Any help or insight would be appreciated. This whole setup has been incredibly confusing and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Thank you!
  25. Hello all, I'm a new user (just downloaded the program today) and I'm hoping to get some guidance on a workflow that will work for me. I compose music for concert band and orchestra. I typically use the program MuseScore to compose the sheet music. In the past, I've simply exported the MP3 audio directly from MuseScore to create audio renderings of my pieces. The audio quality is ... just OK, at best. However, I recently bought the EastWest Hollywood Orchestra VST to improve the sound quality, and I downloaded Cakewalk as a way to play the EastWest sounds I bought. I'm not looking to record audio in Cakewalk at all (either with live instruments or a MIDI keyboard. I don't even have a MIDI keyboard). What I'd really like to do is to be able to export a MIDI file from the notation program MuseScore, import it into Cakewalk, and assign / "plug in" the EastWest instruments to each respective MIDI track in Cakewalk to make a good rendering. I just can't figure out how to do this on my own, and I'm just itching to get started. Thanks in advance for any help! Much obliged.
