About Me

  1. My PT owning friend is thinking of coming back to Cake. He originally used Sonar but went to the Darkside during his music degree years as it was used at his Uni Now he's thinking of coming back because gigs dried up and PT is just another subscription he doesn't really need if he can get his head back into CBB....and free is a real incentive. We had a chat because in PT he said clip gain editing is real easy you don't have change the track edit "mode " ..you can just do it right on the clip if I understand him correctly whereas we have to do the below and then swap back again. He says this is a massive pain/workflow killer when you are used to PT. I told him you can use the shortcut of shift with += to toggle modes much more quickly and he said this is a big help but his other bugbear was that whilst in clip automation the usual " s " to split a clip doesn't work ! I tried it and he's correct. You have to Right Ciick and choose Split from the menu Again he finds this a massive pain coming from a PT background and I can't seem to find any way around this one. I tried assigning it in the key bindings but it doesn't work. it doesn't really make sense to me why you should lose the " split " shortcut command when in Clip Automation mode when a similar function albeit more detailed version is there on a right click menu. So can we keep the quick shortcut of "S" to split clips regardless of the mode we set the Edit Filter to ?
  2. Hi everyone, I've put together a few suggestions here in the hope that they might be useful for future updates of this great DAW. Since I still haven't made the switch from my bought SONAR Version it is possible that some of my suggestions have already been implemented by now, so please treat this list rather as a kind of checklist. 1. when importing midi files you can optionally migrate all of it's tempo changes into the current project. 2. audio files can be easily inverted on the track. 3. the score editor allows to insert system breaks (similar to a marker) which are then taken into account in the print layout. 4. I still remember Cakewalk Homestudio 2002. At that time the snap to grid function only worked in the score editor, whereas in my last SONAR version somehow only the piano roll reacts correctly to the grid. This definitely needs to work for both. 5. it has happened to me a few times that I have dragged an audio file that I actually wanted to drag to another audio track onto a midi Track by mistake. Cakewalk then tries to analyze the audio file and create midi notes from it. Depending on the audio file, this can either take a long time or even lead to a crash. I would like to see a way to prevent this problem by first confirming that you really want to convert the file to Midi. (6). I know that this is very unlikely but I would also love to see the old Cakewalk plugins get a new version and be made available to the world again. If I didn't still own Rapture Pro or Adaptive Limiter, for example, I would miss them very much today and that even though there are more powerful plugins available on the market now. Have a great day everyone!
  3. Hi there, may I kindly ask for a way to disable the "override what the user intended" feature during MIDI export ("save as *.mid") ? In the ancient 😉 Cakewalk versions, the *.mid file was an accurate representation of the project file (*.wrk back then). Currently the *.mid file differs from the *.cwp file: shifted program change and controller commands, deleted commands where cakewalk decides "this is an unneccesary duplicate" ... maybe more artificial smartness ... That does not work out for every one. In some situations it turns out to corrupt a user's deliberate, well-thought choices. What is considered "wrong" by the software might be very "right" for a given setup ... A switch to preserve the original information at its original/intended place in time during midi export would solve the issue. Thanks a lot in advance and thanks a lot for your excellent work in general! Elaborated in more detail in this post:
  4. hi, Fellows! I had to roll back to Cawewalk 2021.1 because of these reasons: - was suffering with the tempo change window. I feel the pre-selected option sould be "most recent tempo", because sometimes I need to up-tempo or down-tempo as my composition progresses, IE when I need to compose a difficul phrase. If the previous selected option is "new tempo", my composition gets lots and lots of tempo changes and I cannot notice it!!! Please, get back to "most recent tempo" if you can. - arrangement inspector strangely blocked! in the new version (2021.4) the arranger inspector sessions gets suddenly and misteriously blocked with no aparent reason. I make my arrangement set, but if some time later I notice anything is wrong, I cannot correct it! Please, get back with this also! Thanks in advance! NelsonMidis (nelsonmidi@gmail.com)
  5. Please add a gain control to the ProChannel EQ to allow level matching. This makes A/B comparisons easier and allows bypassing the EQ without changing volume.
  6. Hi, thank you for such great tool which Cakewalk is!!!! Would it be possible to implement bus grouping in the concole view? Now the console view is divided into three sections: tracks, buses, HW outputs. Would it be possible to user-define more sections in buses area to be able to group buses? Thank you ps: I am not sure if this is the right forum section for such post, please if there is a better thread or section, could be a moderator so kind and move my post to the right place? Thank you.
  7. Hi, It would be a really great feature if Cakewalk could filter MIDI notes as they appear live on the inputs. I often use Cakewalk to play VST synths live, by turning 'Input Echo' on for a synth track. I can enable the synths of 2 tracks at the same time, but all the notes of the keyboard are sent to both. It would be really handy if I could have all the notes of the lower half of my keyboard going to one synth track and the upper notes going to a different synth track. That way I could play chords in the left hand (e.g. with string-type sounds) and melody in the right (e.g. with piano-type sounds). Thanks. Martin
  8. There are some amazing new features rolling out soon in Cakewalk by BandLab! Check them out! Which one is your favorite?
  9. hi! it would be cool to see a feature like this: double-clicking on an audio clip opens that clip in a separate window. it will be more convenient to work with audio in large projects or the ability to open in a third-party editor by double-clicking. it is strange that at least one of these functions has not yet been implemented
  10. Hai, im cakewalk user for long time since sonar 4... but recently i try a studio one 5.2 and, i find out S1 have a some feature that very2 good and usefull where cakewalk bandlab dont have it.... so this is a video that i hope can make it clear, and im very2 hope that cakewalk bandlab can have this feature too, or maybe better than.... 1. Parallel Routing and Processing on Track 2. Drag and Drop instrument on track or FX on FX bin and send that can create bus track automaticly, and copy all fx chain to other track at once so dont have to copied one by one. here's the examples video: 3. sidecahain directly button into the fx window that can routing more fast (as i remember cubase and studio one have it ) 4 not laggy GUI Movement (this is so annoying) make the app "feel" slow and heavy So i hope we can considering this advice.. because this can make a huge deal i believe.. thx.... cheers
  11. Ctrl-N and File->New do two totally different things. File->New opens the old Sonar new menu which requires a project name and save location before proceeding. Since neither of the other two modern ways of making a new project require these steps, this is frustrating and useless behavior. I frequently do File-New, then remember, hit escape, and hit Ctrl-N. It gets tiring after a while. It would be great if they both did the same thing.
  12. It would be great if clip colors and names were kept when bouncing. Eg, let's say I made my chorus clips yellow, and there are two of them. If I bounce them together, they revert to the default clip coloring. In this case, the already selected colors should be kept - why not? If two clips have different colors, the first one could be used. Same for clip names - bounce two clips together the new clip name is empty. Why not keep the first one, and append "bounced" or even concatenate the names. If the name exists in that track, maybe add a "#2" etc like FL Studio does. Degenerate case: select a single clip and bounce it, and the name and color is lost. This obviously shouldn't happen. These are just two examples of areas where cakewalk works against you - in the end I'd rather not bother coloring or naming things is it's going to be constantly wiped away.
  13. Simple. I'm selecting multiple clips and want to rename them all at the same time, to the same name. Can't do it today. The reason? I'm working with an AAF for film and the editor provided a bunch of FX split up into multiple clips and I want to name them all at once instead of one by one. Thanks!
  14. I don't remember what revision this used to be possible in, but back in the 90s, Cakewalk used to be able to show 6/8 time in the Piano Roll View "properly" (e.g., with two groups of six sixteenth notes on the grid and one bar separating the two when set to sixteenth resolution). Now, no matter what I try, I cannot get it to show that - instead, it shows 6/8 time as if it were 3/4 time, with three groups of four sixteenth notes on the grid and two bars separating them. I can force my brain to think around this weird presentation, but it is certainly not optimal. Can we please get a native 6/8 display in the Piano Roll View instead? Thank you!
  15. A permanent MIDI input chord display in the Control Bar would be fantastic! Below is my concept art: We do have the MIDI plugin "Chord Analyzer", which is good (but lacks selection of "b vs #" chord naming) but it would just be super convenient if Cakewalk at all times could display any chords detected at MIDI inputs and/or currently scrubbed. Check out how Logic Pro X has always done it: . Courtesy of the "Make Chords and Melodies Easily In Logic Pro X" YouTube video that demonstrates the live chord detection. EDIT: Updated with new correct image!
  16. Hi There, Thanks for picking up the slack and resurrecting Cakewalk - Much appreciated - now I can finally remix 25 year old recordings (yeah I could have used something else but why?) So I hope this is an ok place to comment/request a feature request. Regarding Groove Clip Looping - Please Please consider facilitating a 'Repeat Count' entry box so we don't have to drag it out for 100 or more bars. Its would be cool to have both but a repeat count would be awesome! Thanks
  17. Cakewalk needs a Humanize feature in the PRV!! I tried the CAL script but its very limiting as it only allows offsetting. No options to randomize velocity and note lengths. Also, there should be an option to color notes differently within the same track.
  18. Hello! I am using Cakewalk for a long time, basically for orchestral mock-ups with vst instruments. So, I use a lot of midi/instrument tracks. Bellow is a small list of things I find to be cumbersome to work with in Cakewalk. 1) The "Number of Tracks/Track Pairs to Create" field at the "Insert Soft Synth Options", is broken. When trying to input a new number (with Max Available un-ticked), the order of the numbers you type in is being put backwards. It's difficult to explain, just try it out and try to change the number of tracks a few times. 2) When duplicating an instrument track (let's say a Kontakt track), Cakewalk is creating a new synth instance of Kontakt with all of the patches that the previous instance had. This is most of the time not desired. An empty instance would have been more appropriate. This was the default way of duplicating instrument tracks some versions of the software ago. 3) Make the way of navigation the same on all views that it's appropriate. For example, the PRV and Tempo View do not use the same mouse and keyboard combinations. 4) I can't find a way to zoom in/out vertically with the mouse wheel and keyboard modifier key. Take a hint from Studio One's navigation methods. 5) I find it super annoying that there is not a way to rename a track at the PRV!!! Double clicking on the name of the track should allow renaming it, like it does on the Track view and the Console view! 6) It could be nice if the CC lanes on the PRV had the ability to have different heights. Sometimes you need to see them all but have more space on some than others. 7) Also, the order of appearance of the CC lanes on PRV is changing all the time when selecting multiple tracks with same or different CCs. Ideally one could arrange the order permanently or the software could display them in acceding order by default. 8 ) Nowadays, a lot of instruments have advanced legato engines that need some time pre-roll in order to be in-sync with the beat (for example the Cinematic Studio Series). Cakewalk has time compensation values only in ticks, not in milliseconds. This could also affect and break some Kontakt scripts that automatically manage different legato transition speeds but need to take into account the time pre-roll time in milliseconds. 9) I might be on my own here, but I preferred the previous way of deselecting notes on the PRV by right clicking on any CC lane. Now, most of the time when I work fast, instead of deselecting the notes by left clicking on the notes area, I am ending up creating new ones. I will really appreciate if any of the above could be thought and be looked at. Thank you in advance! Elias
  19. Hey guys! I would realy like to use this feature: It's a easy and fast way of of creating a costum plugins browser layout. Which can also be saved and imported for future Cakewlak installs. I would like to see the changes that I make reflect in the plugins browser Any chance this works in BandLab's CakeWalk version?
  20. The Arranger Tracks feature is a very welcome feature in CWBB. It works really well to try out how a piece sounds in different arrangements with zero editing. As part of this activity, it's often necessary to play an arrangement over and over, so as to get a feel for it before doing the same with other arrangements. Hence it would be useful to be able to loop the whole piece. Currently though, if you turn on looping, CWBB turns it off when you play an arrangement, and does not allow it to be turned back on while an arrangement is playing. I saw a couple of earlier posts asking for this, but they are not in the Feedback forum and not tagged as feature requests, so may not have come to the attention of those looking out for enhancements to implement in the product. The only suggestion to date has been that the OP should edit their tracks, using copy/paste etc to achieve the desired arrangement, but obviously that defeats the main point of the Arrangeer Tracks feature which is to be able to do all this quickly and non-destructively. As a side note, I don't think looping of individual parts of an arrangement would be worth implementing, since we can already achieve that by dragging in the required number of instances of the section. (EDIT: actually thinking further, I could be wrong on that, and it could also be very useful to loop just a couple of sections or so, to get the feel for how the sections run together when arranged like that. ) But the ability to loop the whole arrangement would be very useful.
  21. Step Sequencer Hide unused notes and Choping step in smaller parts like a A. Flammed step but more flexible.
  22. Leverage the matrix engine with the arranger track so we can trigger and playback sections of a song with a midi device. The arranger features allows for multiple different arrangements, but doesn't allow for spontaneity during the performance of a song. being able to assign arranger sections to a midi device and trigger its playback in sync with time will be very beneficial to those who would like to perform live with Cakewalk. The logic of when a sections changes after the new section is triggered should be based on where in musical time the new section starts. If a new triggered section starts on the "a" of 4, then the section should change on the "a" of 4. If it starts on the "1" then it should change to the new section on the down beat. Some of these features are already available in the matrix view. These features will be more useful with arranger track sections.
  23. Hello guys. I would like to propose a feature that would allow the user to filter groups/folders in track view mode using an outliner. I am aware that there is a similar feature available in the console view but it would also be nice to have it in the track view. The inspector panel would be very useful to place the outliner/filter, make it more easily accessible to quickly filter any folders that are not needed in some cases. Here is a mockup for the track view filter/outliner(Left panel): 1.) User enable GUITARS group & KEYS group : Only the guitars and keys folder groups would be displayed in the track view. 2.) Guitars only Thanks Cakewalk Dev Team.
  24. An option that lets you change the background color for all the clips in one track, keeping the same foreground color for all the tracks and vice versa (without having to do it manually in the properties) EXAMPLES: First Mode: Second Mode:
  25. Not a huge deal, but while the Bakers are being so attentive to us, I figured I'd ask. I fat finger the automation lanes button all the time. I mean to open up the comp lanes. And when I do this and quickly click it again to un-show the automation lanes that I never wanted to see in the first place, Cakewalk creates a volume automation envelop and leaves it in track view. I really don't need to see volume envelopes until I get to the mixing phase and I want to create fader automation. And I don't really want to see unnecessary automation lines on the track view. It'd be nice, if you open the automation lanes and close it without actually having any fader envelope nodes defined (leaving it in automation "jump" mode for the entire project), the track view continued to not keep the fader automation visible. I know, I'm being pedantic. But I do this all the time. Never hurts to ask. On a side note, if the take lanes and automation lanes icons were more visually distinct, like they were different colors, I'd probably discern between them more easily. But ever since their inception, I click the wrong ones constantly. So I don't think my brain is going to stop. Cheers. 3E476386-5DE6-4558-A557-126280C87FED.MP4
