About Me

  1. Hello. The wet level automation of REVERB 2 don't works on exported file, but in the program it works. I have checked "Track Automation"and "Bus Automation" in export options. Please for help.
  2. Hi there, I'm trying to upload a project from Cakewalk to an online Bandlab project. I select Project or a slection depending of my needs, then I choose the 2nd option (individual tracks). Cakewalk creates a folder in Bandlab Uploads folder, I can see the BLX file which basically a JSON file with all relevant information about project and tracks. WAV files are in Audio folder, everything looks fine, but I can't see the new project on my BandLab Projects' page. I can see some outgoing traffic to a cloudfront server, I suppose my WAV files are uploaded. If I retry the whole export process, I have a "No project changes detected" message. I've tried this for 2 projects without success. I can provide more information, screenshots, or logs (I didn't notice anything relevant in bandlab app dir) Help is welcome !
  3. Hi, I'm completely new to this community and forum, so thanks in advanced for taking the time to read this. I've hit a wall with my Cakewalk progress and I cannot seem to find a solid or straightforward answer to an issue I have, even after hours of looking. Basically, I am at a stage where I am ready to export my project as a WAV file. Within the Export Audio screen, I have set the Sample Rate at 48k, as this is what the project was set to within preferences (48k was chosen due to track eventually being used with a video). However, when it comes to choosing the Bit Depth within the Export Audio screen, I’m completely stuck. I initially thought there was only one place you set the bit depth for a project and it was within "driver settings" within preferences (much like the sampling rate I have just mentioned). However, I discovered yesterday that there are 3 different instances where bit depth can be set within a project which are as follows: Audio Driver Bit depth within driver settings (this is fixed at 24 bit for me due to the ASIO I assume) Record Bit Depth within preferences > Audio Data (this is set to 16 bit which is a shame because everything already recorded is now at 16 bit and not 24, but at least I will know for next time) Render Bit Depth within preferences > Audio Data (this is set to 32 bit). So my question is: which one of these do I go off to know if I need to apply dithering or not when exporting the track? How do I know if I am exporting the project / track at a lower bit rate to what it is set to? So should I export at 16 bit (as that’s what the tracks are recorded at)? Or should I export at 24 bit (as that is what the audio driver is set to). Or, should I export to 24 bit and apply dithering because the Render Bit depth is set at 32? Are elements of my project going to be at 32 bit due to this, meaning if I export to 24 bit without applying dithering, I could get unwanted artefacts or a bad sound? So I really don't know what to go off for this, or how to make a decision on what to do or select on the export process. I hope this all makes sense and I would be very grateful of and explanation of these different bit depths and which one I should be looking at and / or go off to resolve the problem just described. Thanks Again and Kind Regards.
  4. In this video I show how to use OMF Files to move files from one DAW to another keeping the timing and files intact. You can use this to transfer and receive files from DAWS like ProTools.. Cubase... Nuendo.. Digital Performer.. And of course Sonar and Cakewalk. I believe Reaper has a work around to use the file in there as well. Hope this helps..😄👍
  5. According to Release Notes for Cakewalk 2020.09, “Cakewalk now uses UTF-8 encoding by default for all text strings, including track name, clips names, Lane descriptions, Arranger sections, Notes Browser, Lyrics view, etc.” This is good news, but it’s not true for MIDI files that Cakewalk creates. Whenever you try to save or export a project as MIDI file (in any of the suggested MIDI formats), all UTF-8 gets lost, and all non-ASCII characters turn to question marks. Does anybody know a way to save Cakewalk project as MIDI while preserving UTF-8 encoding of text strings?
  6. Hello. Recently I've countered a strange problem that was never an issue before. I made a song and then exported it, but in the exported file there is a strange humming in the background. It's very consistent and low in volume. It truly ruins my song. Let it be known that I've recently upgraded to the new version of Cakewalk, however, the humming sound is not present when the song is played in the DAW, it is ONLY AUDIBLE WHEN I EXPORT THE SONG. That's about all I can think about. Other than that, I don't think I've done anything to cause this issue. I hope anyone can help me out with this. Thank you.
  7. In this video I go over how to export out of cakewalk weather its for a video, track out, stems, waves or MP3. Let me know if you have any questions.
  8. When reading the documentation and other guides within the app, when exporting to Bandlab it supposed to just update the existing project with the name. This happens normally when I export multiple times during a day. But I'm pretty sure there are people who work in a span of days or even weeks and when I export to Bandlab with the exact same name with the project I already had, it instead creates a new project everytime. I hope this would be fixed or maybe just let us choose a project, not necessarily with the same project name to make it more convenient. Thanks!
  9. I am encountering this error for the second time where Cakewalk thinks a project (that I've linked below) is way longer than it actually is. The song itself is 45 seconds long, yet Cakewalk thinks it goes on for over 2 minutes, therefore rendering over a minute of mere silence. Last time I could actually apply a fix from a previous thread about the same issue (http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3205742) where I would open the Event List view and delete all events after the end of my song, but I can't find it anymore in the places it once was. Looking at the cakewalk manual https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=EditingMIDI.45.html , the Event List view should be in one of those drop-down menus, but it isn't: So how can I get rid of the silence at the end of my tracks, or am I doomed to always select my track before rendering it? super long silence at the end.cwp super long silence at the end.mp3
  10. Just starting to use this software. So I have my midi controller (a wind synth) running into a Tascam midi interface along with my Yamaha VL1m tone generator. The Tascam Interface is running into my laptop with Cakewalk installed. I see the Tascam in Cakewalk. When I record the program recognizes the midi signal from the controller and on playback i hear the sound i dialled up on the tone generator. But i cant get Cakewalk to save those external midi sound samples as audio! Perhaps someone out there has an answer. Thanks Jack
  11. Hello guys. Attempted for the very first time yesterday to use my Bandlab account and Bandlab's web app to collaborate with a friend on a little project. I'll right down my reactions and questions in the hopes to here about how people is using this workflow to collaborate with people using other DAWS. I would like to know also if we have any info about Bandlab's development roadmap regarding this use case. (Heck, I am even wondering if it would be a good idea that a section of this forum should be dedicated to this topic...) CONTEXT 2 people using BANDLAB web project to collaborate I'm using CWBBL Collaborator is using ABLETON For me, the essential data that should be ported between CWBBL and Bandlab's web app could be something like: Connect the comments tab (Web App) and the PROJECT INFO TAB in CWBBL(Not connected at the moment, it seems) GENERAL TEMPO DATA (not a complete tempo map) That works fine... problem is, Ableton can have decimals in its tempo... like 80.15 BPMs... not possible in the Web App I think... so sync issues might be incoming down the road... will have to sync "manually" to the reference wav file) Is the KEY data connected? Forgot to test that yesterday (Global project key) Track comments would be great (Have not yet found them if they are implemented) Markers / comments on the project's timeline are important IMO (I could not even find a way to add a marker in the web App...) I understand that they are developing a live session feature... I, for one, would like to see that happening BUT only when the "basics" I'm talking about above are implemented. Am I getting something wrong? Missing something about the global concept? Overlooking features altogether? I'm a bit puzzled actually. Would you like to share thoughts / experiences ? Regards.
  12. Hi, I'm doing an online course in mixing. The last assignment I had to do involved me setting LUFS level to -16dB with a dBTP at -1dB. I couldn't find a stock plug in in Cakewalk that would allow me to make these settings (is there one?) so I used the Waves WDM Plus (??) to make the settings. All well and good, but having exported the file and then reimporting it in to my track pane, I got an master channel output of 0dB instead of -1dB. I put nothing in my master channel so the level should have been flat at -1dB. When I exported the files, I selected all the check boxes, including the 64 bit engine - it was a stereo file 44000 / 24bit (standard CD levels). Does anyone know whether during exporting Cakewalk boosts the signal? Has anyone else noticed this situation? (It seems to happen on both individual tracks and entire mixes.) I'd be grateful of any insight and suggestions as to what adjustments, if any, can be made. Thanks.
  13. Not sure if this has been asked, the list of posts is far longer than I can even attempt to get through in a reasonable amount of time. I recorded a single track in Cakewalk and tried to export it as a wave as well as an MP3. When I try to play it back in windows media player, nothing. The files are not recognized/supported. I'm trying to send them to a friend and he is also unable to play the files. I'm using Windows 10 and a headrush gigboard as an audio interface.
  14. Hello everyone. I need some help here... I will start by refering that I use protools to create my midi files but use cakewalk to chek this problem that I have, that I wolud like to solve. Sometimes, and it´s not with every midi file that I create, I notice that my midi file is somehow broken in the midle, or, I mean it plays well at the begining, but at the middle of the song, it creates an empty space with 4 or 5 HOURS and then, at the end there´s the rest of my midi file... This happens in cakewalk, but not in my protools.. or other daws.. - When this happens, what I do, to solve this problem is open the midi file in REAPER, and just export it again.. If I put this new midi file in cakewalk, the midi is good and it´s all consolidated.. but I´d like to create my midi file correctly at the first export (in protools,). Can anyone help me to find this issue? maybe chek the part where the empty space is created, but I dont know what to check... I send 2 midi files of the same source that I created.. It´s just one track with some voice guide.. the first is the one with the problem, and the other is the one exported in Reaper... Maybe someone can chek what am I creating wrong in my protools... (I know this is a cakewalk forum, I just need help on what to check in my midi file to solve it) Thank you everyone 1- Midi WITH PROBLEM.mid 2-Midi with no problem.mid
  15. I want to do this even when a track's audio doesn't start at 0.00 (time). Why do I want to do this? I need to provide the clips to collaborators not using Cakewalk , so they can easily import and place them into their DAWs.
  16. Although I have a full Subscription to SOS Magazine I was informed that I am unable to post their content. Read the full article HERE My apologies
  17. Randomly and often Cakewalk qill just 'han'g when trying to export audio. Sometimes it works, more often than not I have to kill it in Task Manage r and try again (sometimes multiple times). This also will hang when I try to change the track output from the Inspector view. If I change it form the tracks->selecttrack output it does not hang. The export thing is driving me crazy
  18. Got no idea whats going on, I have multiple automation lanes on multiple tracks and its only 2 lanes that have an issue, both are controlling the dry/wet mix on reverb 2 cakewalk. When I export the mix, the automation for these lanes occurs later than its programmed to, then after a while, snaps back to what is supposed to be, not following the automation curve at all. However, the automation behaves absolutely fine when the track is played in cakewalk before export. the automation in the image is used to build up reverb before a drop, however, the reverb builds up approximately 4 bars later than displayed then approximately 4 bars later (so, in the middle of the section after) it snaps back to the level set. I've tried restarting cakewalk, removing muted recordings on the track, removing missing automation sections, checked everything to do with the export, and i cant fix it. interestingly, should I export just the section after the automation (the 8 bars at the end in the image) the automation behaves fine, if i export the loop, the automation is late, but only by a bar or so, the more before this i export, the larger the offset.
  19. Hi folks! There are many reasons for exporting from Cakewalk - for streaming, mp3 playback, stems, and CD. This tutorial shows you how, for various scenarios! WATCH HERE: https://youtu.be/bE4IjK1QOA8
  20. Hello I am not able to export clips in the proper order of my recording. Let me explain by going true the process. I use Cakewalk by Bandlab in my band, to record rehersals, (multitrack, 4 tracks). This is typically a 2-3h single take. I let the record run during the complete rehersal. After the rehersal, I do some minimal editing (volume, pan lef right, etc) I bounce to new track ( to get a single track of the mix) I place markers where ever there is a new jam beginning, new take or song. I split the new track with the "split clips/split at each marker" function. Then I select the clips in the new track and export them to MP3 via the "file/export" funtcion. --> this results in all clips being exported to an MP3 file, unfortunatly with a randomized sequence number. the rehersal is 'shuffled'. Not very usable and pretty confusing. What i tried to solve this: - I tried to rename the markers: no succes - I tried to split the bounced track manually, not using the markers: no succes - I tried to rename the clips with the option in the tracks menu "copy track(s) name(s) to clip(s) name(s): no succes. It is interesting however, because the sequence number added to the clips is also randomised. My workaround is manually rename the clips. This is a very tedious job and I would like to automize this. So I looked at short key options, that I can use to write a script of some sort. -> there is no shortcut key to select the next clip -> there is no shortcut key to rename the clip All of this leaves me with no options at all... except for manual labour. Can you give me a solution of some sort? Am I doing something wrong? Best regards
  21. Background, TL/DR folk please skip: I only started using Cakewalk by BandLab when it was first issued in April 2018, and had only the online documentation, no Reference Manual, and only the old forum with a broken search engine to go on. My previous DAW was Mixcraft, which prides itself on simplicity of use, and they achieve that goal pretty well, to their credit. I was ready to "graduate" to something with a deeper feature set, and jumped right in with Cakewalk. Mixcraft has obviously been inspired by some of Sonar's features, so it wasn't difficult. One thing that I had trouble nailing down, and still, over a year and a half later need the help of an external program to complete, is export of my final mix. The Reference Guide and online help are good about describing the many options in the export dialog, but IMO, they fall short on suggesting defaults. "Here is what you will select when you want to export your full mix, here is what you will select when you want to export stems with effects, here is what you will select when you want to export stems with no effects" and so on. I had to figure all this out stumbling about in the dark, and I'm still not sure I'm making the most of the options. One issue that I would like to address is that after I export a full mix, I find that I need to open my files in Sound Forge for normalizing to get the levels hotter. With Mixcraft, all mixdowns come off the Master bus, period. There is a separate dialog for stem exporting. Less versatile, but easier to deal with because fewer decisions. TL/DR part: My process currently is that I mix with the Master bus as the final bus, with its output going to the Hardware out. At export time, I export from the Hardware out. Initially, I was exporting from the Master bus, but was getting odd results, my mix wasn't sounding like it did over the monitors. So my first question is: how do you export your mix? I mean, what options do you choose in the Export Dialog? Where do you take the output from? Second question: how can I best get a "what you hear is what you get" export? Should I create an Aux bus and send the Master to that and export from it? Third question: how do I get the level of my exported file up to the point where it's peaking at about -1 or -2 dBFs so I don't need to normalize it in Sound Forge? I have good metering plug-ins, Meldaproduction, dpMeter, Youlean, TB, etc., but they seem concerned with loudness and I need level. Bonus round: why is the documentation so vague and how did you figure it out?
  22. Greetings. From the old documentation, it seems that Cakewalk used to have a way to export markers. This is currently not available (or I've been unable to find it). Could you please add the feature to export markers? Preferably to a text file. Thanks!
  23. When exporting a slew of tracks, I want Cakewalk to name those tracks solely as my tracks are named. But when exporting, I can't just leave a blank field, I have to put something in the field like a dash or or a letter. Cakewalk also add a dash and number at the end of the track name. This requires me to take a lot of time to remove the letter and dash from all the front of the track names, as well as the dash and numbers at the end of the file name. I would love the option to not have to add something to the file name field, and the creation of a checkbox: "Only name exported tracks with actual track names". And since it's unlikely that we can leave the field blank, maybe some control+shift+P type signal that Cakewalk will understand, oh, it's Chamlin and his friends who are so fussy they want their clean and proper names... Thanks!

    Export to wav

I had a problem exporting to WAV using the new faster feature. The format wasn't compatible with copying to CD despite being playable from all media players. Tried to copy tracks using two different s/w which have worked fine in the past. There were two tracks which did copy correctly which I had created on Bandlab. Is this a known bug?
  25. I'm trying to export my audio as a file and listen to it back in Microsoft Groove Music ( I'm trying to export it as a final consumer format not for mastering or anything ). And I expected that it will be the simplest part of the whole music creation process, you know just select 16 bit depth that every player supports, Stereo, 44100 Sample Rate, Master Bus as the audio source, every option in mix enables except from audible bounce, live input, and 64-bit Engine ( btw I tried with those enabled separetly and it still did not work ), no Dithering ( but I tried with triangular just in case ), And I tried Wave, wav, flac, mp3 and some other that I don't remember. And guess what, It did not work PS: there is nothing wrong with my "Groove Music" because it works no problem with music I download online. And second thing is that files exported from Cakewalk can be imported back inside the DAW and sound completly normal when played back there ( Yes even with all those crazy options I put above ) ( And no I'm not putting the same file in over and over because when I play it back in "Groove Music" the errors sound different depending on options I use. ) And I also tried ( from desperation ) every bit depth combination ( and what even is this "extra encoding options / sub format" this makes no sense! why have to audio formats in one file! ) But anyway I tried it all, and I still can't make the export sound the same as when i'm playing it back in the DAW itself. I'm surely doing something wrong here. Please help, I beg you, I can't work it out by myself. And if you want to make it painless, just give me options that work as consumer formats that I can play in a standard player like "Groove Music". But if you have time please also explain what is this "sub format" in "extra encoding options" (that btw disapears when I enable dithering). Thanks in advance for help I'm kinda new to this thing.
