About Me

  1. Hello, This is my first time using Cakewalk so it is probably something very obvious. For some reason, for this project only (tested on a new project and this problem doesn't occur), the export sounds way different than the playback inside cakewalk. I tried everything I found on the internet and the top results in this forum, but to no avail. The thing is, the file is the problem, not the audio playback device, since when I reimport the file, it sounds just as awful in cakewalk. The top end sounds more crackling than a campfire. Checked the tracks, main busses, the output bus, but nothing stands out. I assume the preference settings are not the problem, since as I mentioned earlier, works as it should in other projects. I tried changing the export settings in every way that I could and they all sound awful. So, what is there to do? I can't continue on this project knowing that I won't be able to ever export an accurate sound. I'll share the project file and tracks if needed.
  2. Hi Everyone, This is my first time up in the forum and I wanted to share some really strange behaviour in Cakewalk; the problem being that in the exported mix file the left channel is significantly quieter than the right whilst they are on a par when simply playing the song through the master bus. I've tried everything! By-passing all the plugins, checking all the export parameters and, of course, the panning of every track. It all looks fine. However as soon as I export just one track, let alone 24, the difference in levels is already apparent. Fortunately I found a workaround which was to export the master bus instead of the entire mix. Same thing. And that works, so there must be a gremlin in there somewhere. But when I uploaded the (good) mix file into another cakewalk project just to master it, the exported file also had the weak left channel !! Same workaround. Export the master bus itself instead of "entire mix" of the single mix channel through the master bus and it was ok. Any ideas? I've only encountered the problem in this project so far, but now I'm worried ... Richard.
  3. Hi, I'm working on a remix of a song that has a varying tempo, starting at 110 and progressing to 112.4. In Cakewalk, I've used the tempo track to adjust the tempo so that the songs beats line up with Cakewalk's gridlines properly. However, when I export the track I find that the tempo remains unchanged? Perhaps I'm missing something but I've only been using Cakewalk for a couple months. I'd like to be able to export the track with the tempo changes. If anyone knows a fix for this that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Hi, I have a mixed multi-track project when an external synth is used with soft synth tracks. Behringer UCA202 interface allows me hearing the mix down while editing since it has the monitor capability, so basically Cakewalk outputs to the digital buffer, commands the external module which is connected to the interface input and both worlds are mixed on board to my ears. Understandably I can not export such a project at once. The ear monitor mix is nowhere to be found. As a test, I made a recording in Audacity while playing the project in Cakewalk. If I used WASAPI general the recorded sound was the external synth's, if WASAPI (lookback) - The mix of only soft synths. So I had to "render" the midi tracks into an audio tracks as was explained here at the forum multiply times. But as a developer I just think that Cakewalk might implement something like this (below). Maybe it's already there, but requires some checkboxes be set, please tell be which in this case, I tried all sets of real-time related checkboxes to no avail. When exporting something requiring real-time recording, the export allows switching into recording to a sound buffer from the general sound input, so like Live Input is supposed to work. But all the tracks that are software bound (capable of mixing both programmatically and real-time) have to be not recorded live but mixed programmatically to the buffer (that was filled with the the external synth sound from the step one). Cakewalk can do this because the real-time buffer is something of its control at this step. This way Cakewalk doesn't depend on the sound interface having or not having the internal loop back to have the mix down.
  5. Hi there! I use bandlab for large projects (radioplays, podcasts), and every once in a while I have problems with the clip automations when exporting. Sometimes bandlab cuts off samples earlier than it should, sometimes it does not follow the automation correctly, so that clips are too loud or too silent or the fadeout happens too soon or too late. The strange thing is, when I listen to the project inside bandlab, everything sounds correct. Also, when I freeze the track, the resulting audio is correct. Only when exporting, the clip automation is incorrect with SOME clips, not all clips. These errors are replicable, that is they are not a glitch, but they come out wrong every time I export the project. What I also noticed several times (and I think these problems are connected) is that when I copy a clip in a project, the new clip sometimes has some weird behaviour - like it references the original clip, and if I move it, the waveform-graphic is being moved, but the clip still is to be heard at its original position. Normally when this happens, I delete the clip and copy it again. Of course I am not sure, if these two behaviours are related, but it is very strenuous to not be sure that the export reflects the automation in the project. When exporting large projects of ~ 1 hour you will have to listen to everything carefully, hoping to not miss any errors that ocurred during export. Is there anything I can do to avoid these problems?
  6. Hello everybody, I've got the export problem in cakewalk - but only in some projects. After some googling, I checked the plugins inside problematic projects, first my guess was on acoustica plugins, they are heavy on the ram, but (except of smoother daw work) they weren't a problem. Then I removed also TB plugins, and one of the project started to be exportable, but the other is not. The rest of the plugins I use from years (TDR, Izotope and Valhalla) or are cakewalk's one. It's not memory issue, there's also bo crash report, all is happening when I try to export is: cakewalk is turning off, and in export folder appears empty wav file. Any ideas? Thanks in advance:) EDIT: In CakewalkCore\Minidumps\Plugins Folder the only info I got is: Cakewalk Plug-in Crash Dump (C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\VCRUNTIME140.dll)
  7. Dear Cakewalk community, My cakewalk has started crashing when I play my project files. The music will play for approx. 2 seconds before crashing and exiting the software with no error message. Just to give some background: I was having issue with exporting WAVs of my project which was also crashing the software (exporting mp3 files seemed fine though). Anyway I think the exporting issue is fixed. I suspected this was due to workload or memory on the computer, so I went through my files and deleted unused files especially from my downloads folder. This was to free up space. All the VSTs that I use are also in a Cakewalk plug-ins folder. I have opened up crashlogs and it seems that Sitala VST is the issue. Here are some examples from the crashlog: EXCEPTION_RECORD: (.exr -1) ExceptionAddress: 00007ffa840e3973 (Sitala!VSTPluginMain+0x00000000003d6d33) ExceptionCode: c0000005 (Access violation) ExceptionFlags: 00000000 NumberParameters: 2 Parameter[0]: 0000000000000000 Parameter[1]: 00000000000000f4 Attempt to read from address 00000000000000f4 STACK_COMMAND: ~0s; .ecxr ; kb SYMBOL_NAME: Sitala+3d6d33 MODULE_NAME: Sitala IMAGE_NAME: Sitala.dll FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: NULL_CLASS_PTR_READ_c0000005_Sitala.dll!Unknown I have re-installed Sitala several times and it makes no difference. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do? Other plug-ins I use are Surge, Molotok, TAL dub delay, and CamelCrusher. Interestingly my smaller project files seem to play ok even though these also involve Sitala, so maybe it is a performance issue? I never had issues before today/before I started exporting large projects as WAVs. Many thanks in advance, PS It has also just crashed when trying to freeze a track. The track used Sitala.
  8. Hello Bandlabers. First time around I'm actually trying to use the ARRANGER TRACK... and it's not going to well for me so far... Trying to use that feature to cut/organize VO tracking. (So using arranger sections to identify "clips" and "portion" of the narration associated with a PowerPoint Slide) I have a high number of section in my arranger track (about 55 sections). But I am only encountering problems to finish my work: Trying to commit the arranger track and insert it to the timeline - Bandlab hangs. Trying to export the SECTIONS of my project in separated clips (aggangement not "commited"): Somehow the audio files got re-inserted in the project's timeline and created a mess (had to back to an auto-version backup to recover a usable project...) So i'm starting to guess my problems might be related to my high number of sections... Is anybody else using the ARRANGER in a kind of "per clip" workflow instead of a "per song" workflow? Maybe I just didn't choose the right tool for the job, but it just seemed logical to try it... Thanks!
  9. Has anybody experience clipping when they export a file on the new update?
  10. It would be great if the Export Audio dialog would remember the previously used preset on per-project basis. Currently it only remembers the export location (a recently introduced change - which is great!) and it would save time if the previously used preset also was remembered. Thanks!
  11. Hey Everyone. Need some help badly. Iv been using cakewalk for the past 3 years and have honestly enjoyed it. But I am having some issues with the playback and any track exporting of any kind. The Issue: While either listening to the raw file in DAW, Bouncing tracks or Exporting a project, I am being met with audio dropouts. But not like complete dropouts. Just volume decreases. Almost like someone it quickly moving the volume fader down and up again, or some major compression randomly kicks in. I have just recently upgraded to a desktop PC after coming from a laptop and I wasn't having this issue on my laptop Ill leave an example below Notice the annoying audio dips in volume and you can visually see the dip in the export. I have updated my drivers in windows and gone to the manufacturer site to get the drivers. I have uninstalled and re installed. Been through a bunch of support with no avail. I have tried a lot of things and I cant even seem to pinpoint whether it would be some sort of sound card issue not liking my interface, Driver issues or what. I have no idea. PLEASE HELP, this is a project ruining issue. PC Specs: *all mid to high specs* Windows 10 Ryzen CPU NIVIDIA GPU I'm using a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 issue track.mp3
  12. When I export my project to a Wave or MP3 file it crashes about halfway the project. I went deeper into to it to find the problem and took a look at the moment it crashes (1 minuted 44 seconds). I went to my project to that time stamp and started removing stuff to find the problem. I ended up finding the cause of the crash which was the automation of my chords (Xerum plugin). less than a second after the moment it crashes comes the end of the drop where the cutoff of the chords goes down. I know the problem but I have no idea how to fix it while keeping my automation ofcourse. on the attached picture, the white line is the moment the crash happens.
  13. Sometimes Clip Gain automation is ignored when exporting audio. For me, some clips with a gain envelope are handled just fine when exporting audio, others have their gain envelope ignored. See two attached screen shots. PLEASE NOTE: The Clip Inspector Properties shows Automation Read IS CHECKED (i.e., ON). There are NO REGION FX. In fact, no FX whatsoever. There are NO sends to any buses. If I move this clip to any other timeline position, the Clip Gain is no longer ignored when exporting the audio, OR a different problem occurs: The Clip Gain is treated as -INF (negative infinity) for the beginning of the clip up to the point where the envelope rises for the first time. If I insert another blank audio track anywhere, the Clip Gain is no longer ignored when exporting the audio (on the first try). Then after saving the .CWP file, the Clip Gain is again immediately ignored when exporting audio. THIS PROBLEM is EXTREMELY HARD to discover when you have many tracks and many clips. How do you know which Clip Gain envelopes are being ignored during export and which ones are not? I have done extensive testing and discovered that if I “Flatten Comp” for all tracks that use Clip Gain, then the export seems to include Clip Gain automation adjustments. For now, anyway ... until it doesn't ...
  14. Hi, I have been sticking with SONAR Professional (2017.06), but today I decided to try CbB...I compared by exporting exact same project and found that they sound quite different (I AB'ed). CbB sounds much more open to me and there's more seperation. Could this be true?? export settings (sample rate, bit depth, dithering etc) were the same. Have bandlab been improving this? better summing?
  15. I had a MIDI file created by another application and opened it with Cakewalk. The notes in the MIDI were played live on a digital piano, so they all have different velocities. Then I saved the file as cwp and edited it in Cakewalk, taking care of the dynamics. After saving the file back to MIDI, all velocities became reset to 127, which is completely no good. How to convert my cwp file to MIDI without losing velocities?
  16. Howdy, I'm pretty new to using DAWs anyway, and I picked up Cakewalk since it seemed like a good free option. I keep running into the following issue: there are multiple MIDI tracks in the project, and at apparently random times, the instrument assigned to one track can be heard playing the MIDI from another track as well as it's own assigned MIDI. Upon some research of this issue, I found a forum post that suggested changing the inputs on the tracks. Most of the time, if I have the inputs to all the MIDI tracks set differently, the problem won't occur, but sometimes it still will, so this doesn't seem like a satisfactory solution. Beyond that, the most recent variation of this issue was when I tried File>Export>Audio... and exported as an MP3. I had all three MIDI tracks set to different inputs so that the different sounds wouldn't play the wrong MIDI during playback as I described above, but upon export as an MP3, the exported file very clearly has one instrument still playing MIDI from two different tracks. I don't know why the instrument assigned to one track would be affected by anything in another track anyway, and I definitely don't know why the DAW wouldn't export exactly what you hear in playback within the DAW, so I'm quite befuddled. Any help would be much appreciated!
  17. Hi, I am trying to export my mix but when I do so certain instruments are exporting way louder than how they are in the mix. Any idea why?
  18. Hey Everyone! I noticed that whenever I exported a song that I made in Cakewalk as a wav file, it was very bass heavy and muffled. Everything sounded fine in Cakewalk, though. I managed to track the source of the problem to the Windows audio "enhancements", and turning them off makes all of my songs sound the same in and out of Cakewalk. Which leads me to my question: Should I make the song in Cakewalk and totally ignore how it sounds with the audio enhancements (thus making it sound nice for people who don't have the enhancements turned on, but probably pretty bad for those who do.) Or, do I change the way my song sounds in Cakewalk so that it sounds good with the audio enhancements, making it sound less good without them. Ideally, I would like my music to sound great for everyone, so I'm not sure what I should do. Thanks!
  19. Not sure whether this is one problem or three.... 1. The Sources dropdown doesn't seem to work for me. (See screenshot) It's a narrow strip that will scroll only to the very top or the very bottom of the list. I imagine it ought to display the whole list of tracks. 2. Maybe because of that, the checkboxes don't respond to being clicked. Or at least some of them don't. 3. It doesn't appear to display all the tracks that are in the project. But maybe it would if issue 1 were solved. Or am I missing something I should have done? Version 2021.09 Build 141 64-bit, running Windows 10 on a 16" laptop less than a year old
  20. Hi folks! To celebrate the release of the new export features in Cakewalk, I have a complete rundown for you! WATCH HERE: https://youtu.be/JgLoPMp-1_s
  21. Hi! During a band practice, we usually record all songs in one track/session/project (using multiple recordings). Is it possible to export just part of a track, such as on song and not the whole session? Thank you!
  22. Arranger is a great feature and, IMHO, the best addition to Cakewalk in the last few years but what I miss the most about about it is that you cannot export sections of an arrangement as separate audio files. I often record live performances into Cakewalk and I need to export individual songs in mp3 format. You can of course export sections one by one or use an external audio editor to cut the recording into sections but it just takes very long time to do.
  23. This is me trying to take track outs. Everything is set. Except it won't export until I give a files name. So I entered a single letter "z" and clicked Export. This is what I got. <The text I entered>-<Track Name> - <Track number> When all I wanted was this <Just the track Name> This is the second time I'm requesting this. Its an unnecessary step to rename every track when we need to exchange stems with other producers. I have to always rename in order to keep it clean, while my co-producer doesn't (Cubase). Pleeease fix this !
  24. Hi, I'm using the latest Cakewalk by Bandlab (and a bunch of old Sonar and other VSTs). I've also searched and read threads about my problem first - but it may be different: When I listen to my song inside Cakewalk, everything sounds great. When I export it, the WAV file sounds worse (hard to quantify how much worse - some people might not mind - but i definitely notice it) - it's tinny or weird. Kind of like the crash cymbals and highhats and high end are being digitally? compressed? or messed up somehow. It's almost annoying or grating when the high end crashes hit. Like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. So to me it's noticeable and seems like an inferior mix. It's not clipping at the hits (as far as I can tell). It sounds bad in VLC, Audacity, and DaVinci Resolve (video editor). When I upload to YouTube and playback on my phone it's still there and annoying, but not as grating. Not sure what the problem is - I've looked through old threads and seen that people say Windows 10 EQs or messes stuff up with default filters. I went into the Win 10 sound settings and turned off the Enhancements and that doesn't seem to make a difference as far as I can tell. I also reloaded the WAV into Cakewalk - and it sounds ok in there in an audio track - which points to the export being OK. But why if I have Enhancements disabled in the Win 10 Sound settings does the audio sound so annoying on the high end?? And if it is just my playback, then why does it sound bad in video format on youtube (rendered via DaVinci resolve) on a different device? Is Resolve reading the some how secretly filtered audio and then writing that to the .mp4 file I'm uploading to YouTube? I'm using a super fast Alienware laptop with the stock Realtek ASIO HD Audio output with 16Gb RAM & SSDs and Cakewalk reports it's flying great. (Yes I know you don't use onboard audio interfaces, but turns out my old Edirol 10in10out FA-101 is firewire - which doesn't exist in Win 10 - so I'm still debating an M-Audio 192/6 or Focusrite 4in4out Scarlett, or a Motu-4... But since I'm just using VSTs at the moment and not recording audio, I figure that should work. Does it matter that some of these are not routed through busses as I'm just doing some quick & dirty stuff and the mix is good enough in Cakewalk as is. Sorry for the long post - hope there's enough information for anyone to help or point me in the right direction other than "get a new interface". Because it sounds awesome inside Cakewalk. thanks!

    Export to MP3 Problem

Related to Cakewalk X2... I've been exporting to MP3 for a while w no issues. But will only export about half of one of my projects, ends halfway through the song. All of the tracks are exported but only half the song time span - i.e. 1.5 min of a 3 minute song. On DAW it shows the entire export process being completed with the progress bar going to the end and the export finishing, but the resulting MP3 file only has half the song. Probably something simple, but can;t seem to figure it out or find it on the forum. Thanks friends! Update: Problem solved, seems tied to frozen synths, when unfrozen whole song gets exported. Guess the mix down process on exports bangs up against the synth freeze which is essentially a mix down.
