    Sheesh,  I don't know.

How can we be sure  Word Perfect will continue development so we can continue to work on our projects in the future?

    Oh, yeah....

I don't care, 'cause Im a Cakewalk user, writing about Cakewalk issues on Cakewalk forums, not Word Perfect.

How many times is Noel going to have to point out Offline Activation

That's a convenient way for offline users, indeed, but it doesn't answer the question of activation requirement per se, in case BandLab is (knock on wood) dead someday.  Or if they drop Cakewalk's developement for whatever reason.  I mean, how can we be  sure that we'll be able to work on our projects later on?

I'd like to stay offline with my music production machine all the time but now, with the new Windows 10 system it's not an option anymore. With their feature updates every 6 months they may eventually break old ways of working for some programs and then the developers have to adjust with their software updates to make things rolling again. So, you either stay offline on an older Windows version and won't be able to update other programs or you risk breaking compatibility - like Cakewalk is constantly being updated and maintained but officially requires the most recent Windows 10 version - or you're spending way too much time updating all your software every week and sometimes fighting issues from it instead of just doing music. Bad choice.

Didn't have a single software compatibility issue on my Win7 audio system so far. I'm OK to stay on Win7 "forever",  'cause what I have is more than I need, anyway. My only concern ATM is that it may be hard to find a decent Win7-compatible mainboard once mine is dead. but I'm already working on it.

YES! It's preventive maintenance. There's no such thing as perfection, but it keeps your system as safe as possible. I'm pleased that they are making such an effort to try to keep ahead of the real problems that Hackers never stop trying to cause. And that's never ending story. Just like a 10 year car that wasn't properly maintained, it becomes more problematic and expensive to keep on the road the a new car.

if an operating system requires 150 security fixes yearly (let alone hundreds of other ones) it's quite far from perfection. At least to me. As for system updates - it's an arms race, indeed, and that's a good reason to stay offline with a music production machine, regardless of system used.

Windows is like living organism. Just like your body needs antibodies, it needs security updates. Because there are too many attacks outside, that's why they call viruses. More care comes more health. Also your car needs some care by time too. But needs are different.

If the company stops updates it means if there are some vulnerabilities, you're taking risk. When company stops updates, that doesn't mean it's perfect, they do it because over time it becomes expensive to continue serving for an old app.

Sure, our cars need some care & maintenance from time to time, but certainly not every other day for 10  years or so! Unless they're seriously broken by design, that is.

Um.... That's why W10 is more secure: they're still issuing security updates.

Would you consider a car that requires security related fixes 150 times a year to operate properly SAFE?

I wouldn't.  I'd rather consider it poorly designed (or  made).

(...) And so as the story goes... Windows 7 was freak'in AWESOME for it's decade, but it's decade has PASSED and now it's as silly and dangerous as using kerosene lanterns because both pose extreme security risks.. Windows 7 was never intended to be a life long friend, and now, it not only holds you back from progressing, your standing on shaky, unstable grounds as the world continues to turn and evolve, you are one update away from blowing up and nuking you entire computer and taking Cakewalk by Bandlab with it.. And if that's not DANGEROUS I don't know what is!

If Win 10 is more secure than their previous systems (Win7 for that matter), then take a look here:

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=windows+security+update+windows+10

and ask yourself why Microsoft already had to release several hundreds security updates for it, and still releases about two dozens every month.

(...} As mentioned above one requirement is to keep the software up to date. If you follow these simple steps activation is a non issue.

Does it mean that an outdated CWBL version can't be activated untill it's updated to the most recent version?

(...)  Only one I miss was called Warp delay. It was an important part of this song I never finished. It shows on KVR https://www.kvraudio.com/product/2warpdelay_by_mutagene

But the company seems to have disappeared and all links are dead ends. If anybody has this I would love to hear from you.

  10. for Native Instruments Kontakt:

1  Native Instruments Cuba (very good sound, internal pattern sequencer, however not as many instruments as Toontrack has)
    2. Samplephonics Afro-Latin Percussion (good overall sound, but single layer instruments only, therefore poor dynamics)
    3. MAudio ProSession Producer Afro Cuban Percussion (quite old, but still a decent library)
    4. Muletone Audio Travel Congas (congas only  - as the name says - but very nice)

    for Toontrack EZ Drummer

    1. Latin Cuban Percussion EZX2 (this one I do not own,  so you'll have to aks others or judge yourself from YT clips for example)
    2. Latin Percussion EZX (Pros: versatile, wide range of instruments, included midi grooves, etc. Cons: somewhat muffled sound to my ears, especially in the mix, so it may require some tweaking.

(...) Which has caused me to wonder -- is it possible to network two computers together in a single DAW environment? Over a network maybe? Such that they can be synced when music production is going on? One possibility I thought of is to configure the spare system as a MIDI instrument and just hook it up to the master system as if it were, say, a MIDI keyboard or something. True, that limits its usefulness -- no audio for starters. Maybe assigning its audio and MIDI outs to audio and MIDI tracks in the other machine? I dunno. But it seems that, for this to work, at a minimum, sync must occur between the two machines and the auxiliary machine must be able to share its variety of patches and audio voices.

    You may try this freeware:

    https://audiogridder.com/how-does-it-work/

  12. If you have a program called "ASIO Proxy" installed on your machine you'd probably notice, that your CW is freezing for 40-50 seconds. Not instantly - it happens about 45-55 seconds after CW launch. After that CW unfreezes and you can work normally. Until next CW launch, that is...or until you change anything in preferences in current CW session.

So guys,  if you want to avoid this problem simply uninstall "ASIO Proxy", at least while working with CW.
Strangely I've had no issues with "ASIO Proxy" on other DAWs or audio programs; seems like it's just Cakewalk, that hates it so much ;)

My suggestion to CW devs will be to EXCLUDE either:

    1. reading of Registry entries for this driver, which would make it non existent for CW (since it's completely useless for CW anyway)
    2. loading the driver itself (foo_dsd_asio.dll and/or foo_dsd_asio_x64.dll)
    3. both of above

I'm not sure if it's already possible, but in case it isn't - I'd also suggest to implement a function in future CW editions to let users choose which ASIO drivers to exclude / load on CW startup (be it from within preferences), should other ASIO drivers conflicts arise. I mean totally exlude from loading into CW, not just unchecking in audio devices list, as this driver freezes CW even if inactive, see screenshot.

    PS. 1

"ASIO Proxy" is kind of dedicated ASIO (?) driver that helps foobar reproduce DSD streams on DSD capable DACs.
    For more see: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/files/foo_dsd_asio/

    PS. 2

Respective locations for "ASIO Proxy" dll files may be:

    a) for 64 bit systems = c:\Program Files (x86)\ASIOProxy

    or

    b) for 32 bit systems = c:\Program Files\ASIOProxy

    PS. 3

Location for "ASIO Proxy" Registry entries for both 32 and 64 bit systems is:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO\foo_dsd_asio]

    Regards, and happy unfreezing
