Even though CAL scripts have officially been depreciated, I have actually written a few that can create ramps and curves for CC values and wheel events.  Combined, these can also be used to create sinusoidal oscillations of controller and wheel events (for creating vibrato using pitch bend, for eg).

These can be further edited using the Transform tool.

Most of these tools often come out of the idea you're editing pre-recorded MIDI events, but do very little when you're writing those by hand.

Witch Pig released Ambient Axe, a free guitar sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

I never would’ve considered using a seven-string for ambient works, but Witch Pig proved me wrong. I generally pick up my seven-string for playing things in extremely low tunings, where my only thought is to chug on the lowest string.

You clearly never listened to Devin Townsend. It's literally Enya meets progressive metal.

isn't that true for all DAWs and orchestration libraries?

Yes, but those have educational material available for them which is easy for people without MIDI knowledge to learn. Let's take BBCSO Discover. Even if you have almost no idea of what you're doing, you can figure out how to get half decent results out of it.

And I believe Nokia missed the boat by going Windows Mobile instead of Android. They never recovered from that. But there could also be other factors at play.

Nokia missed the boat way earlier than that. They said "no" to Android when it was in its infancy then had no other place to go once everyone was buying those new fangled smartphones and iPhones instead of their devices. They literally went from being the largest mobile phone company in the world to nothing in a few years and had no choice but to sell to Microsoft, which then sunk them further and eventually extinguished the brand.

  5. After taking a look, I couldn't find anything in the documentation or in the forum. Essentially, I'm wondering if it's possible to create articulations which present a gradual increase over their duration or after finding a related event. That would be interesting for implementing things like hairpin dynamics for orchestral libraries or even things like pitch bends and the like. While those could be probably done in the controller pane, there are several issues with it which make it less desirable than using the articulation maps.

BPM, Project snap settings, Piano roll snap PLUS Piano roll Grid view all work as a team.

In order to have your loop running, you have to set your grid view according to your desired snap setting in your PRV and to loop this is highly dependent on your project snap settings.

After reading this, I did try it and it worked exactly once. After I undid the changes, I cannot make it happen again.

Seems likely the Bakers chose to limit it at a quarter to best serve the vast majority of loop-stye composers who are going to be working in 4/4 or maybe 3/4, and wanted to simplify guessing the intended number of beats in an unquantized clip that doesn't end exactly on a beat line.

That is a strange decision considering other DAWs have similar tools for that purpose and they're not tied to a specific time signature.

  7. Looking at  Avid's financial reports explains why they sold out. They were not profiting that much (last figure shows an operacional cost of about 200k with about 400k of profits) and were spending quite the sum on marketing alone. The report also talks about loss of profit and sales in places.

  8. Other alternatives include Famistusio, which is a cross platform (Windows/MacOS/Linux/Android) sequencer made to specifically do chiptune music:

Plugin-wise, you have 8-Bit treats from SocaLabs, which gives you emulations of the NES, Master System, Gameboy and SID. Also free:

    https://www.tracktion.com/products/8bit-treats

For Nintendo 64, your best bet is finding the soundfonts of games which make use it of them, which are game specific.

  9. I don't see where any of the influences are apart from them being used for the interface and marketing reasons. The Gameboy and N64 are almost diametrically opposed in terms of sound architecture. The Gameboy uses a 4-channel synth design similar to the NES but more limited whilst the N64 can do ACPDM audio at sample rates up to 44.1k as well as MIDI controlled soundfonts.

  10. At least on their last report, they list an operational cost of around 250k with profits of about 400k, which is not a lot considering the size of the company and the amount of products they sell.

It seems to have jumped up to $26.66 at the close of trading Friday, August 11th.

Anyone who bought shares of AVID between Summer 2003 and the end of 2005 and had been holding on all this time hoping for another bubble might feel lucky to be getting $27.05 after the long slump.

I was refering more to Avid's 2022 finantial report

    https://ir.avid.com/static-files/2c6b49ef-aa5c-4f5d-ae9f-5ef61271aad7

Around page 40, they list their gross revenue and operational costs.

Agreed. ProTolls is probably not even 20% of all AVID products.

We don't have to speculate that. Avid is a public traded company and their financial records are public.

One point of concern here is that I did some quick research and STG only owns stuff which has nothing to do with music. While that doesn't necessarily mean they'll screw the pooch, it doesn't paint them in a good picture.
