  1. I have Soundtoys VST3's installed but I only use them in my test project for creating effects. VST3 makes it convenient when opening several plugins on the screen and bypassing them to hear the difference. VST2 is my goto in every other project until Soundtoys can get their VST3's to behave. 🙂
  2. SuperPlate VST2 version 5.4.1 works 100% in my system. I haven't tried VST3 because of the problems with other Soundtoys plugins.
  3. I found that different revision levels of Soundtoys VST2 works better than others. I'm using the latest release 5.4.1 and its sort of stable... VST3 is loaded in the project I use for making reverb and delay patches and it works ok, but if it starts acting up then I switch to VST2. In all my normal projects I use VST2. Unfortunately Soundtoys doesn't keep previous versions of their plugins on their website (except for 32bit). You have to contact them directly and they'll send you a link. I've started keeping previous versions on my hard drive as a backup.
  4. I don't know if we're allowed to post from other forums but this optimization process worked for my new DAW: https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.php?p=16176610&postcount=295 I'll use this process anytime I update NVIDIA drivers and I've had no issues with graphics to date. (System details in signature below) Hopefully this will help even if you don't need to follow the entire process.
  5. I've had trouble with all Soundtoys plugins in Cakewalk ever since they announced support for VST3. My projects intermittently freeze and stutter if there's a Soundtoys VST3 plugin loaded. My workaround is to use their VST2 versions until they can get their VST3's to play nice with Cakewalk. I reported this to Soundtoys and they said they don't do a lot of testing with Cakewalk. Hopefully the new Sonar will have better support from Soundtoys and other manufacturers and developers.
  6. I just received my Osmose a few days ago and I can confirm MPE is working great in Cakewalk! I got it exclusively as a controller for Deckard's Dream (which accepts MPE or polyphonic aftertouch), and my other Black Corp synths. I'm sure the Osmose's onboard sounds are great, but I didn't get it for that. The Osmose connects to the MIDI track with the MIDI In channel selected to <Omni>. MIDI Out goes to Deckard's Dream. MIDI Echo is turned on. I also have <Key Aftertouch> and <Channel Aftertouch> selected in Preferences. I did some test recordings and experimented with poly-aftertouch, velocity and individual key pitch bends. Every move on the Osmose was echoed to Deckard's Dream through Cakewalk. Cakewalk recorded all those moves, and placed a ton of controller data in Piano Roll (I'll need to decipher it and make an Instrument Definition). Playback was also good and all the nuances and inflections were intact. I just wanted to give some real world experience with Cakewalk and MPE. Cheers! Reggie
  7. I don't use many shortcut keys, thanks for suggestion. 👍 Mouse scrolling would work better because I usually have lots of aux tracks and plug-ins with sidechain ability. Most of the sidechains aren't patched to any particular track, but they're still in the menu and take-up screen real estate.
  8. My request - please add mouse wheel scrolling to the SENDS menu. I have numerous sends per project and clicking the up & down arrows is a tedious way to get to the bottom of the list to ADD or DELETE a send. Thanks!
  9. I built an Intel based DAW last summer and installed Win 11. The only hiccups I encountered were from me learning the new windows architecture, and learning about MMCSS and UA Apollo. After that bit of education, Cakewalk is working great with Apollo and all my VST plug-ins. No crashes and no audio dropouts. All of my other standalone audio programs have no issues with Win 11 and working well with Cakewalk. (iZotope RX, Melodyne, Sound Forge Pro, etc.) My Win 11 was a fresh install, not an update from Win 10 so this may or may not make a difference.
  10. Hi Noel, I turned MMCSS off altogether. I tried just turning off MMCSS for ASIO but it didn't help. Universal Audio support said to leave MMCSS turned off and they'll look into it... sadly, how long it'll take for them to update their driver is unknown. Thanks for explaining what MMCSS does. My system is a i9-12900K new build with 64GB DDR5 5600MHz RAM, so hopefully I'm ok for the foreseeable future. I'm running sessions just shy of 100 tracks and the system is solid with plenty of headroom. No complaints at this time. 👍
  11. Glad to hear you're able to move to a new Thunderbolt interface and not get the dreaded BSOD. I also had the BSOD a few times in Cakewalk before I turned off MMCSS. Luckily everything seems to be behaving like it should. Both of our PC's should have enough horsepower to run USB or Thunderbolt audio. Now that MMCSS isn't a factor, I'm happy with the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero. I'm using the stripped down driver for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and my system is stable - whew! I don't know what MMCSS is supposed to do between Cakewalk and the audio interface, but leaving it turned off doesn't seem affect anything related to mixing.
  12. Hey my friend, I've been back in the US since last week! That's too bad the Apollo x6 isn't behaving with Cakewalk. My Apollo-Duo is a Silverface rack-mount version with a Thunderbolt 3 option card installed. Cakewalk and Windows 11 have been stable with no hiccups since switching off the MMCSS options. (I did find that I have a bad SoundToys VST3 plug-in that I need to investigate... I figure this is because SoundToys is having VST3 growing pains) Yesterday I was switching between 44.1k and 48k sample rate projects. Cakewalk didn't have any trouble switching between the projects (thank goodness). There was only a slight delay in the projects opening while the Apollo swapped sample rates.
  13. Hi Noel, I'm still overseas but today UA replied to my MMCSS tech support request. From UA support: "Thanks for the report. We have logged this internally and it's being investigated. In the mean time, our recommended workaround is to disable MMCSS. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions." I gave them all the details we discussed in this thread and gave them my "Windows System Information File.nfo" before I left home. I'll keep you updated if they send me anything new. Cheers, Reggie
  14. Hi Noel, I just arrived in Singapore and my DAW is in the US. I won't be able to try this until in return in a few weeks. HOOK has a similar problem on a similar system. He may be able to help with some screenshots.
  15. Thanks Noel, I'll report this to UA tonight. I'll keep you updated on their response.
  16. Hi Noel, I installed the EA build and tried the new MMCSS options. Turning on "Use MMCSS" and disabling "Enable MMCSS for ASIO Driver" didn't work for me. Cakewalk immediately reverted to the hiccups and stutters. The Performance module's Audio Processing meter keeps pausing every few seconds. Turning on "Use MMCSS" and turning on "Enable MMCSS for ASIO Driver" also didn't work. Cakewalk continued to have hiccups and stutters. The Performance module's Audio Processing meter keeps pausing every few seconds. Turning off "Use MMCSS" and turning off "Enable MMCSS for ASIO Driver" works great! No hiccups or stutters. The Audio Processing meter is smooth with no lags. I'm using UAD software Version 10.1.1 for my Apollo... just in case this matters. Cheers, Reggie
  17. Hey, chiming in with my system similar to Hook's... also a fairly new build. I recently had a windows update that threw everything out of whack. I ended up removing my NVIDIA graphics card and that helped a lot. But the biggest change was turning off MMCSS this morning. The CPU meter for the audio engine is now low and steady, exactly what I expected from the i9-12900K. I'll see how everything runs throughout the day before I consider reinstalling the NVIDIA card (its primarily for video projects). Thanks Hook and Noel! I never considered MMCSS as an option to try. My system: Motherboard – ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero Processor – 3.2GHz (5.2 Turbo) sixteen-core 12th-generation Intel Core i9-12900K RAM – DDR5 5600MHz, Kingston Fury Beast 64GB (2 x 32GB) M.2_1 – Samsung 980 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 M.2 SSD (2280) M.2_2 – Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 3 M.2 SSD (2280) M.2_3 – Samsung 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 M.2 SSD (2280) SATA – Western Digital Black 2TB 7200 RPM 3.5” HDD (for backup) Graphics Card – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (currently removed from the system and using onboard graphics) Power Supply – Corsair RM1000x Operating System – Windows 11 Pro Audio Interface – UA Apollo (Silver) with Thunderbolt 3 Option Card
  18. I wanted to report back that I transferred all my presets to the new DAW. It was truly a hunt & seek process that took a few days. First, I used Cakewalk's Plug-in Manager to export my user presets for each plug-in as a .spp file. This took a while because I had to remember each plug-in that I created user presets for. But all was not bliss because some of the .spp preset files wouldn't import into the new Cakewalk Plug-in Manager. So for those bad ones, I exported the presets directly from each plug-in as a .fxp preset file. The .fxp presets uploaded with no trouble. Second, several of the plug-ins stored user presets in different location like: Documents, Program Files, ProgramData, Users locations... just everywhere. But I got them all! Last, some of the plug-ins were discontinued and I had to be creative to transfer them to the new DAW. I searched for all their root directories in the old DAW and copied them to a thumb drive, then pasted them to the same directories in the new DAW. Cakewalk saw them and accepted them! Some of those plug-ins required me to re-register them and fortunately I keep all my registration data, so all was good (I even have my Cakewalk Pro Audio 6 CD from the 90's). I hope this helps anyone who's migrating to a new computer. And the new computer is amazing! Opened a project with 84 stereo tracks, 20+ auxs and tons of plug-ins and the CPU meter hovers between 5-10% and memory usage at 16GB (this project brought my old DAW to its knees). I followed Sweetwater's Windows 11 optimization guide and the performance is rock solid. Cheers!
  19. Thanks Scott, I'll start searching today. Cheers, Reggie
  20. Hello all, Last night I finished building a new DAW for Cakewalk and installed Win 11 Pro. Over the next week I plan to migrate all my templates and VST presets over to the new DAW (some are native Cakewalk and the rest are 3rd party). I know where all my Cakewalk templates are stored but is there a common folder for VST user presets? Or will this be a hunt & seek for all my user presets in Waves, Slate, SoundToys, Universal Audio, FabFilter, Arturia, etc? Many thanks!!
