  1. Hey Steve.  Back when I was a wee bit of a pre-teen and at the time living in Ontario, Canada -- I happened upon a 50,000 Watt radio station.  It was the famous or infamous WLAC station out of Nashville, Tennessee.  At night the DJ's (John R  and Big Hugh Baby) played nothing but R&B and the Blues.  Once I heard Jimmy Reed I was hooked.  Hence, every once in a while I go back in the alley and try to reproduce the sound.  Thanks very much for commenting and I'm very glad that you liked it!

Hi Rik.  Every once in a while (don't know why), I like to intro a song with a count-in (drummers sticks).  Unfortunately and apparently, not all of the count-in made it in the posting.  What you were hearing was half of the count with a much reduced volume.  Apparently, the rest of the song also lost volume.  Thanks for listening and for the insights!

Thank you Nigel.  It took a lot of tries but I think that I got close with that early amp gravelly, growly, overdriven sound.  I always value your input.  Thanks for listening and your kind comments.

Hey Wookie.  Thanks very much for listening, commenting and for the like!!  BTW, I really enjoyed your recent post!!

  2. This sounds like a mix of the Blues and cool jazz.  It really sounds great.  It has a bit of a relaxed, slinky feel to it.  The guitar playing sounds very good but I particularly

    like that one panned left.

    Great stuff!!!

  3. Great music and great video - and - they compliment each other perfectly.  I did recoil a bit when I saw the  slide ruler.  It is one of the reasons that I transferred from the engineering program to Biology/Ecology program.  Fortunately (for me) computers came along to rescue me from any more slide rulers.

    Terrific work!

  4. Well that was very interesting --- in a very positive way.  I did shut my eyes and let the music flow. The introductory droning was almost like a meditation mantra and for me was very relaxing.  I appreciate that there was a slow build up toward the "Berlin school"ending.  The build up allowed me to comfortably come back to reality.

You did indeed use some "real cool tones.

    Well done and excellent job!

  5. Hey tom.  Thanks very much for the kind words and encouragement.  I got a real kick out of the videos (2 snaps and an around the world for that)! Thanks again.

Thank you Steve.  I'm glad that you liked it.  I was having a lot of fun doing this song and I was hoping that it would spill over.

  6. A fun and interesting song with some great lyrics (you know your always right when you wear the emperor's clothes  -- love that phrase).  I echo the comments above as it does sound a bit busy to my tired old ears.  A little clean-up and you have a good one here!

  7. This is a great guitar driven rocker (spiked with a bit of the Blues/Boogie).  You make the Strat and Tele sound good!  I particularly like the sound of that one panned left.  Your playing is excellent!  Great work on the bass line as well as the vocals.

  8. Hi Old Joad.  Thanks very much for listening.  You got the call on the amp right.  If I remember correctly,  I used the Amplitude 5 Bassman amp plugin along with my beat up Norma semi-hollow body guitar with the rusty pickups.  I'm getting closer to the sound of that era - now I just have to work on the style (love that style love that sound).  I was going for that rough, loose sound that you might hear in the clubs of that era  --- especially those on the Chitlin Circuit, like right here in Tampa's Central Ave.  Thanks again.

Hi Jack.  Thanks for listening and commenting.  Much appreciated.

Hi Lynn.  You are much to kind but the encouragement is much appreciated.  Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment my friend.

Thank you Daryl1968.  The vocals were pre-Covid.  My tired old vocal chords are finally starting to return from the CoVid experience.  Thanks again for listening and commenting.

  9. I was expecting a cover of the Dead Kennedy's song - Uber Alles (one of my favourite USA punk groups).  Even though this song was not - it was equally entertaining.

    Sounds great!

  10. This is an interesting and entertaining number.  The vocals are interesting and your delivery presents the lyrics perfectly.

    Well done indeed!!

  11. Nice Jazzy sounds.  The sax is my favourite reed instrument and you make it sound good.  The fretless bass also sounds good.  Great work on a most pleasant song.

  12. Here is a short, silly song about gossip the grapevine and mostly about listening.  It picks up on the Sonny Boy Williamson 2 song -Don't Start Me To Talking.  It offers just a wee bit of social observation.  In my last song I was trying to reproduce the sound of the amps used by the old Blues and Jump Blues performers primarily in the south side of Chicago.  Hopefully, I got a bit closer on this song.  It is a bit rough.  That is not only my lack of talent but I also was trying to replicate the sound of that era.

As always, I will be grateful for any crits., comments, and suggestions.

    Thanks

  13. I echo the comments above -- this is really a very pleasant enjoyable song.  You really have been posting some very good songs recently!  I did miss your videos on this one. 🙂

    Good stuff my friend!

  14. One of your more interesting songs.  Clever guitar work in the introduction and through out certainly kept me listening.  I like the vocals -a wee bit of "verb" never hurts.

    I enjoyed the listen Jack

  15. Great number  -- both parts one and two --  lead by a great composition and great performances by all involved.  Part one was very pleasant and enjoyable and I also enjoyed the uptempo Latin tinged sounds of part 2.  I also enjoyed the video particularly the immediate introduction with the time piece running fast and the the person in slow motion.  You can always tell when a drummer is having a good time and enjoying themself.  It looked like the drummer in your video was certainly enjoying himself.

    Well done!

  16. Bajan Blue:  Hi Nigel.  Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.  BTW, I just listened to your recent post --- it was absoflippinlutely excellent!

Hi Lynn.  It is great to be back on the forum.  Thanks for listening and for the feedback.  I also just listened to your new post.  I think that it is your best yet!  It is a most impressive piece of work!  Well done pal!

Hey Wookie.  The old viral infected vocal cords are still a bit messed up.  So, no re-do on the vocals right away.  I really appreciate your listening  and taking the time to comment.  Thanks.

Hi Bjorn.  The background singers are just an artifact of the members of the fictitious Freddy J and the Good Guys.🙂  I was trying to get that scratchy sound of the amps used by the Blues guys back in the late forties and early fifties.  Not quite there but  getting there.  Thanks very much for listening and for your kind comments!

Hey Daryl1968.  Doing better -thanks!  I appreciate the listen and your kind comments.  BTW, listened to your recent post and loved it!

  17. WOW!  To say that this is impressive would be a gross understatement.  The video, the composition, arrangement, instrumentation and performances, vocals and background vocals are all excellent.  The bass really drives this song along and sets up a mood.  Oops, I almost for got the lyrics  --- great.

    You set the standard pal!
