  1. I am aware of VI Control and the drama that sometimes exists there, though I only go on it if I'm interested in a particular product that is being discussed there. VI Control is not specific to any single DAW or any other type product, so it is not relevant to the statement I made comparing the Cakewalk forum with another DAW specific forum.
  2. As with most things in life, there is no perfect solution. Applying the offset and exporting the new positions is good from an audio standpoint, perhaps this is the most important. From a visual standpoint, the notes in the new positions will look slightly out of place in the piano roll view, and perhaps even more so in the staff view. Also, there is no way to negatively offset a note that starts at 0:00:000, so you'll want to pad the beginning of your song with some empty time.
  3. I will admit that it feels like there is significantly more drama on this forum than on the forum of the other DAW I use.
  4. After you submitted the NDA, Bandlab should have given you access to an additional private thread on this forum. If that has happened, you'll see the thread named "Cakewalk Sonar Beta {Private}". The Sonar Beta version is available within that private thread. It may not be exactly the same as what is available through Backstage Pass, it may be a version or two ahead of what is available through Backstage Pass. The Backstage Pass version has a 3-day free limit or requires a monthly or annual Backstage Pass membership, the Beta version does not. If you don't see the private thread, you don't have access to the Beta version.
  5. For what it is worth, I believe Noel called what is currently available to the public via Backstage Pass an "early access" version.
  6. The link to the download was provided a few posts earlier. Even without that, I was just now able to get there doing a google search for "presonus studio one demo", so it can easily be found. You definitely do not have to agree to a monthly payment to get at the download. You do have to set up an account with Presonus, because they issue a serial number for the demo, which would become your serial number for the purchased product if you subsequently decide to do that. And you can definitely purchase a permanent license (no subscription) if you so choose. I know all of the above to be true because I have recently done it, as I'm sure a number of others have as well.
  7. That's the one! That should work, if you haven't demoed version 6 or higher before on the computer in question. Looks like I was wrong about the 15 days, it is 30, even better. It's a very handy tool built right into the DAW. One of quite a few little ways that Studio One is ahead of Cakewalk/Sonar.
  8. There used to be a free version, I think called Studio One Prime, and that technically doesn't exist anymore. But there is a time limited demo of the pro version available. When the time is up (I think 15 days) it reverts to the equivalent of the Prime version, which does not support third party VSTs. So you have to get your plugin testing done in the 15 day period.
  9. Thanks for the suggestion. I was aware of those, but felt the two "consoles" I most wanted were the Classic British (Neve) and Custom in CTC-1. So I'm going to hold out for another sale on that. Softube Tape, which is the only 3rd party plugin supporting the Studio One Mix FX, was(is?) on sale by itself and in a bundle for a good price, and that was also tempting. I tried the demo on that. It's CPU use was higher than the included Console Shaper, and I think I prefer console emulation to tape emulation, so I didn't buy that either.
  10. I am happy for you! Bummer for me. I've been watching closely for it to go on sale. When I saw this, I was at first pretty excited, now I'm rather disappointed. Oh well.
  11. Well, I guess I know the answer to my question. There is no way to add it to the cart, so it is NOT available.
  12. I'd like to buy this from JRR, but when I go to the linked page, it says "Availability: Out of stock". Do you think that is really true, or should I try ordering it anyway and see what happens?
  13. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that a new activation server was started at the time 2023.09 was issued and the old server shut down. Version 2022.11 only knows about the old server, so it may be impossible for it to re-activate. That's one main reason why Bandlab told everyone to update to 2023.09, as it is the only version that is aware of the new activation server. I suppose it is possible that they haven't shut down the old server, but if so, it's just a matter of time before they do.
  14. Yes, I applaud NI for this unusually worthwhile voucher. Most of them in the past could not be applied to upgrades, but this one can. It enabled me to upgrade from the Stradivarius Violin (which I had as part of Komplete 14U) to the full Cremona quartet for US $49.50.
  15. The crossgrade would also apply to later paid products, meaning X3 and Platinum, but yes, CbB is excluded. I did the same thing as jesse g when this promotion first started on 11-20-23. I'm now enjoying Studio One Pro. I tried it briefly a couple times in the past after the Gibson fiasco and it didn't quite resonate with me then. But this third time is the charm, it is making sense to me now, and it really is much more advanced than CbB and the new Sonar in a lot of little ways and a few big ways. I don't know if the new Sonar will ever catch up.
  16. There are a lot of rumblings about it. Starting with 3.0, the main focus is to support NKS2 and Kontakt 7.7, so if you don't need that, there's not much reason to update. Alongside the NKS2 changes, many people consider the other changes starting with 3.0 a step or two (or three) backwards, especially as far as workflow is concerned. I'm in that camp, so I'm staying with 2.9.6. Also, most of the updates coming out now for the Kontakt products make the products require Kontakt 7.7+, and there are a lot of grumblings about that too. So, I decided to upgrade my Komplete Ultimate 12 to the now "aging" version 14 a month or so ago, and then pretty much commit to no more updates from Native Instruments.
  17. Though the Presonus information conspicuously does not mention the crossgrade option, the crossgrade is discounted on the Thomann site from $299 down to $182. That's what I've been waiting for, so I have purchased the crossgrade from Thomann.
  18. Just to add to this, other types of plugins can also be affected by gain changes, such as amp and console emulators, those that intentionally add distortion. Usually for those types of plugins, the more input gain they receive, the more distortion they add to the dry audio. But if you use volume changes, the ratio of added distortion to dry audio won't change, just the volume of the combined audio.

    UAD LA-2A Free!

If you look at the page for this on the UA site, there are several questions with answers. I'm not sure what to make of the one quoted below: Is this plug-in included in the LA-2A Collection? No, this plug-in is brand new, and is not included in the LA-2A Collection. So it is evidently not the same as any of the previously developed plugins, but how is it different?
  20. I knew I should have stayed out of it. 🤨 But gosh, everyone else was expressing their opinions, why can't I? I've used Cakewalk since Pro Audio 5 and easily spent more than $1000 dollars on the DAW alone. As I said, it was just a suggestion, trying to keeping things simple, and basing it on what is perhaps likely to have been common experience for various users. It is also similar to how some other companies do things. I'd say the examples you gave are somewhat less likely, chosen to make your point. But they are certainly possible and I understand your point. So you are probably right, the "fairest" way would be to have everyone provide all of their receipts and the cost scale would be based on those totals. I've learned my lesson, I won't be contributing to this controversial thread again.
  21. I tried to stay out of this, but I couldn't. Here's my suggestion to Bandlab, trying to be "fair" to all users and Bandlab as well: If you purchased lifetime updates, the initial crossgrade to the New Sonar is free, but future upgrades are whatever Bandlab's upgrade policy will be. If you purchased Sonar Platinum, or any of the "X" series, the initial crossgrade to the New Sonar is $50, with upgrades as above. If you purchased any version of Sonar Producer from, say 5 - 8.5, the initial crossgrade to the New Sonar is $100, with upgrades as above. Purchasing the New Sonar outright would be $200, with an option to pay in 12 monthly installments that would let you receive updates for the year and keep that version if you make all 12 payments.
  22. I'm no longer using my AlphaTrack since I purchased other control surfaces, so I don't remember the detail or have thems handy. But until then I was using the AlphaTrack quite successfully in CbB for quite a while, and AZ Controller is definitely the way to go. Maybe AZSlow will see this thread and provide some more info for you.
  23. It appears that Studio One Prime stopped at version 5.something, no version 6 for that.
  24. I'm sure you're aware that the original developer used what he had done in Cakewalk to develop the stand-alone notation application Overture. And about the time Gibson was starting to lose interest in Cakewalk, that developer had some initial conversations with Cakewalk/Gibson saying that he thought it was possible, and not extremely difficult, to somehow incorporate about 80% of the functionality of Overture into Cakewalk, but Gibson wasn't interested in working with him. (This is according to my memory of some statements made by that developer in the old Cakewalk forum.) I'm sure most of the people that want to see Cakewalk improve the staff view would be more than happy with that level of functionality, I know I would. Do you see any possibility of going in that direction, maybe just consulting with the developer, sometime in the future? The developer is still alive and theoretically supporting Overture, but I realize he has not been very active for more than two years, so that certainly makes things more difficult.
  25. It was a difficult decision for me as well. And yes, I had to move all of my Native Instruments libraries to another drive to free up enough space on my largest and fastest SSD. I'm sure I don't need 20 mic positions either, but I wasn't thrilled with the single mic position in Core, and Spitfire's demo of the mic positions convinced me I'd have choices in Professional I could be happy with. The other major factors for me were the addition of solo strings, and that it appears Spitfire's approach on this library was to include pretty much everything they were ever going to include for the BBCSO in Professional, instead of who knows how many other separate libraries that you'd have to purchase to get everything. For my needs, I may never be tempted again. Whereas, with their other orchestral stuff, and pretty much everyone else's as well, you'd end up spending thousands on many separate libraries if you wanted anything close to the "complete" set. For example, even with the Cinesamples "glitch" sale at ~$80 per library, I would have had to spend a lot more to get something comparative to BBCSO Professional, since I didn't have any Cinesamples orchestral libraries to start with. So I think it was very practical for me. YMMV.
