Has anyone had hands on the Z490 and the 10th gen i7s? The clock speed is a little lower on the new ones Micro Center has in stock (a 2.9GHz vs i9-9900k @ 3.6). I am on the fence, even with the newer genration.
I was hoping @Jim Roseberry or other folks may shed some light on it for me. -

I'd also strongly advise your 32 bit VST2 folder to be outside Program Files (x86) - say C:\VST (x86) - so you don't run into UAC/permissions issues for "bad" old plug-ins.
I do that as well Kevin. Really easy to find it!

I have built many of both AMD and Intel systems over the years, but always seemed to have weird Gremlins in a DAW system with AMD. That was a while ago, but when you get something that works well (as in my case, Intel-based systems), you stick with it.
However, I know the bakers have had a relationship with Intel over the years. I'm not sure they do currently, but knowing they were working with them made my decision easy on which to go with.- 1

Jim,
I have an AXE I/O, have you happened to try one? I'm wondering if you think something like that would be solid to help with transients. -
Latest version of CbB btw. Amplitube was also updated to the latest version.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I'd get an 800W power supply to have plenty of overhead ( check out the calculator: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator ). Depending if you are doing video or not, you could probably trim the video card down. Otherwise, looks good.

I've built 2 systems over the years with AMD, and each time I regretted it. I know the Bakers work with Intel, and I've had better performance/longevity with the them. So I'm not rocking the boat on that part of the equation.
Just not sure which I9 to go with.

A processor ? Everything sounds pretty incredible - 64 gb going to 128 gb memory ? I can't really fathom that, I've never pushed my 12 gb over the hill. Sounds like you could run a good sized orchestral rig with lots of bells and whistles. What kind of music ?"
That's what I wanted feedback on. I will get an Intel I9, but I was polling out to see the best performance/price point.
As mentioned, this will be an everything box, so I'd like it to be robust. But I will use more Virtual Instruments musically for sure -
The time is coming to build a new DAW! I'm starting to spec out what I want, and would appreciate feedback from those who have recently built one. Thanks in advance folks!
Here are a few thoughts on what I want:
Silence is paramount, so I'm probably going water cooled this time. Also a silent power supply.
Not sure if I want to go rackmount or traditional tower, but really don't want or need a fancy case. I have a soundproofed case (Corsair I believe), and I may use that.
I am going to get a 500GB NVMe OS drive with in the ballpark of Sequential IO: 3,470/3,000MB/s (that is the WD Black spec, but Samsung is in the mix). Depending on the board, I may get 2 SSDs or a 1TB NVMe for storage.
WIN10 Pro
The Board???? I have never have had a problem with ASUS, but am open to suggestions. It doesn't have to be THE latest, but close. I may do video editing at some point, but would disable the card for audio.
Processor: Current best mix of of price and performance. Never came near maxxing out a CPU in recent years. Intel only.
Memory: I am thinking 64GB to start, and expandable to 128GB from the board.
What am I missing?
Again, any advice is appreciated!

I still haven't opened my AXE I/O :(
But, there is rain in the forecast this weekend, there may be a chance it gets hooked up!- 1

I did buy it and just got it. Hadn't put it through the paces yet.

I am definitely looking for a new interface, but need to know it plays well with CbB ...and that drivers will be updated like the big players in the space. I like that it appears to be a guitar-player-centric unit.

I am a Amplitube user, and this looks pretty slick.

Does the AXE I/O integrate with CbB? And if so, more specifically, was it tested with CbB?

I use a product called Active disk ( https://www.disk-image.com/index.html ) for the OS drive, that way I backup all of the C: drive and can restore it to any new drive within 30 minutes (I've also used this product on a few hundred machines for a standard company image). I have a RAID-1 for my data drive, and save the image there.
Maybe that can help someone!
Z390 or Z490? Anyone have a 10th Gen Intel Proc yet?

That's what I am wondering ....whether to go to a gen 10 i7-10700K, or stick with Gen 9. The prices are really similar, and obviously, the newer gen is more forward-thinking.
The fan can be controlled in the BIOS from what I read on the Asus site.
