  1. Quick update....

That did the trick. I must have messed up the drum clip (slid it over accidentally). I went back to the original tempo and cut/pasted the drum part in and then did the Length trick and it appears to be fine.

Also, the crash was caused by the TTS1 plugin. I archived all tracks that used it (it was a placeholder anyway) until I can reassign everything.

    Solved - Thanks to everyone.

  2. The Length idea is helping a lot. Thank you -

I'm trying to take MIDI tracks that I recorded at 170 BPM And convert them so they play at the same speed when I set the tempo to 85 (e.g., the song will be exactly the same length when I'm done). Tempo is constant throughout - not looking for ritards or accellerandos or anything else of the sort.

No audio - I'm putting together a track with MIDI only and will eventually bounce to audio.

    Here's the process.

    • For each of the tracks I want to modify I bounce them to a single clip (the length of the song) and make certain the clip starts at Bar 1, Beat 1
    • I then use the Length process as described above on the individual tracks
    • (And of course I already created a backup of the original.

The only issue I'm currently seeing is with the drum parts. What is working well for the other parts (Piano, midi bass, midi guitar, oboe) isn't working for the drums - the drums are being offset for some reason.  Even when I add some 1/4 note hi hats to the intro (where there are no drums), it doesn't line up.

I'm going to play around a bit more and update the thread tomorrow - unfortunately CW crashed on me and I'm not going to risk mixing crashes and fatigue for much longer.... don't want to lose everything :(

  3. Sorry - Maybe I'm not being very clear. I need the starts and the end of the note to be changed...

Making the duration 50% only changes the end of the note, not where the notes start e.g., the notes still need to move in the bar so that they play at the new tempo correctly.

  4. The problem is all the MIDI has been recorded/played at the previous, higher tempo. What I want to do is find a converter that will convert the quarter notes at the higher tempo into eighth notes so I can use the lower tempo.

Worst case I'll just print the click at half time.

  5. I have a couple of projects that were initially started at a much faster tempo than I want to see. For example, one was started at 160 BPM but I really need it to get down to @ 80 BPM. Obviously if I change the tempo it will be playing at 1/2 speed.

Has anyone encounter this (or the opposite) and come up with a solution?

    Thanks in advance -

  6. Alright. Found a couple of issues but it's now working

    1. The Ryzen issue seems to be resolved after taking a Windows update to Windows 10 20H2. Don't know what the underlying fix was, but that fixed it.

    2. I did have to change my MIDI driver mode to  UWP. Since UWP doesn't name the ports very well I'll be giving them friendly names today.

Thanks for the help, and I hope this helps others.

  7. A little more info - I think it's actually not enumerating in Windows at all, and can't figure out where it should be in Device Manager. In some cases I'd say I have to install a driver, but there doesn't seem to be one on the Behringer site, which I would assume to mean that it should work with the inbox MIDI driver.

    More Info:

As it turns out there's an issue with AMD RYZEN and some USB devices, XTouch being one of them. I'm workign through it, and will update the thread as I find out more.

    Ugh....

  8. Tonight I finally got around to hooking up my Behringer XTouch, and checking out a number of YouTube videos on how to configure it.

However, I can't get past Step 2 and am wondering if I'm missing something major like using the wrong connection type:

Step 1: Connect XTouch to PC USB (after having set the XTouch for USB connectivity using Mackie Control)

Step 2: Open Cakewalk Preferences and Select XTouch from the dialog -

    • XTouch does not appear in Preferences | MIDI | DEvices

Checked the Behringer site and see no XTouch specific drivers for the device.

    Open/Closed/Open Cakewalk - no change

    Restart PC - No Change

I'm probably missing something easy, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance -

    Pat

  9. It's been a while since I need to do this, but I'm cutting up audio and don't want to crossfade them , just want to butt them up against each other. How do I turn this on/off? (Years ago it was the default IIRC).

Background - I'm trying to put together arrangements for a band and need to cut/copy/paste sections.

    Thanks in advance -

  10. Arranger seems like a great feature - especially when wanting to move multiple tracks.

However, in trying to use Arranger, I'm finding it a bit difficult to use without the ability to enter specific start and stop points for each arranger section.

    Here's an example:

Live Band Recording (rehearsal) has a bunch of songs in it.

Step 1: I create arranger sections for each song. Because it's not sync'd to measure lines, it's hard to find the right start / stop points . I've used Markers to some extend and this has helped, but not completely.

Step 2: We  have segues between many of the songs. In some cases the band (like most bands) goes through fits and spurts , starting and stopping to get the segues right. I now want to adjust the and add additional Arranger sections, and then remove the "stops & starts" to be able to use the Arranger sections to merge them together.

Is the only way to do this really to use Markers? Any other ideas?

  11. Having recently discovered the FXQuantize MIDI plug in (OK, 20+ years with Cakewalk and I always used the destructive quantize when I needed it... ugh).

Mostly what I'm using it for is to add some swing to drum tracks. I'm finding that it works great  most of the time but... there are cases where I need to use different values or turn it off.  For example :

    1. I want to turn it off for a fill

    2. Turn it off during a section that needs to have different quantize values (e.g., 32nd notes instead of 16th notes).

I was hoping to automate the effect but I can't find any way to link a controller to the different parameters like you can with most of the audio effects.

I know I can split the drum MIDI onto multiple tracks and apply different plug in instances around those parts, but I think in most cases I if I can simply bypass or change a plug in parameter it will do what I need it to do .

    Any points would be appreciated

  12. With ZOOM - I was able to get ASIO Link Pro working, but not VoiceMeeter. Going to try a bit more over time...

I think COVID has forced a lot of us to be more flexible with our workflows and it would be nice to find a variety of ways to use CbB across the different platforms.

  13. Found a solution to a problem I'm finding where the AudioSnap pointers aren't setting correctly

I probably should record and post something about this for others:

The snaps only "set" when the pointer is turned red. In many cases moving the pointer to the transient marker does not turn the pointer (the triangle in the audio snap header) red.

To get around this, you may have to move the pointer (triangle) significantly away from the current position, crossing other beats, and then moving it back and releasing it over the target marker.

I've avoided doing this before as it has sometimes caused CW to crash, but seems to be a viable workaround now.

  14. I'm working on creating a tempo map with Audiosnap (transcribing a tune) and I'm having some troubles with it. While I found workarounds for some, I'm wondering how I can handle time signatures that change. While most of the tune is in 4/4, there are a couple of spots where they go to a 3/4 bar. I can change the project, but the AudioSnap doesn't change, and that makes it much more difficult to keep track of where I'm at and it also seems to mess with the time extraction which then seems to cause issues with AudioSnap.

The problems don't seem to be consistent, but when I remove the 3/4 bar the problems pretty much go away (except for some crashing, but at least its the app and not the PC).

I watched a couple of tutorials on AudioSnap and they helped, but none talked about changing time signatures.

Any pointers would be appreciated -

    Pat

  15. I see what my problem was with the naming (Noel can probably name many more problems that I have, but I can't type that long).... I didn't have a name in the field so the icon was disabled.

I'll experiment more with drum maps using multiple plug ins. I know I can do some of this in SD3, but I'm trying to avoid:

    1. Having a whole bunch of SD3 presets that I have to manage when I can do a decent job with two and a drum map.

    2. I don't want to chop up the MIDI drum tracks into multiple tracks for two reasons:

       a. They are harder to manage

       b. The General MIDI drums / percussion notes are not really contiguous, so it's prone to error and sometimes dangerous.

A quick note on why I'm doing this: For years I've wanted to build backing tracks for (jazz) wine bar gigs, but have always been way too busy. I find many of the GM files out there to be lacking, while there are some absolute gems. Having a GM drum mapping to better sounds is something that should save me time in the long run...

  16. I watched a drum map tutorial on YouTube to get started, but I'm seeing some issues with the drum map and am hoping for clarification or links to other topics to help.

    1. Setting up a drum map to remap GM drum sounds using CW with Superior Drummer 3 . I have two instances of SD3, using the Avatar kit in one instance, and the Latin Percussion kit in the other. I then use the Drum Map to split the sounds from a GM confirmation into the right mappings in each instance of SD3. However, there are some notes that are not playing correctly (e.g. either to the wrong instance, or the wrong note) and I can't figure out why. I'm wondering if it has something to do with mapping across multiple VST's.

    2. I can't for the life of me figure out, once I've created a drum map, on how to save it and be able to reuse it (maybe even make it a default for certain things).

    Any help would be appreciated

  17. I've created a template with the channel assignments, but every time I get to a gig and connect the XR18, I have to reassign all of the channels in Cakewalk. Since I am using it to record live gigs most of the time, I end up having to reassign input channels again and again.

Is this a known issue? Is it something with the driver, or a compatibility thing?

  18. Being a keyboard player, I have a large number of plug-ins, and I always bounce to tracks before I mix.

Right now I have to select the plug in and then each individual MIDI track and bounce them down, then organize them so I can mix. This is especially tedious when I'm doing any orchestral work.

I looked at the CAL reference, but can't find a Bounce function, or a way to determine what the track type is (plug in, audio track, MIDI track).

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Pat
