  1. Note duration may be set using the the note duration buttons at the top of the PRV or the menu in the tools HUD or module. The last touched option overrides these methods of selecting note duration. There are predefined keyboard shortcuts for some note duration settings. For more info see http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Tools.20.html
  2. The default behavior for double-click on audio clips changed in 2018-07 to open Clip Properties. At that time a setting was added to the Track View Options menu under Click Behavior > Double-Click > Audio Clips to modify this behavior. When looping audio if the length changes it means CbB needs help figuring out the number of beats. This may be fixed by altering the beats in the Loop Construction View or the Groove Clip section of the Clip Inspector.
  3. Sometime Cakewalk gets beat detection wrong. Open the clip in the Loop Construction View and modify the beats or change it in the groove clip section of the clip inspector
  4. This has available as a 64bit DX plug-in for some time. All DX plug-ins must run the same bitness as the host. In fact, 32bit DX plug-ins are not visible to 64bit hosts and 64bit DX plug-ins are not visible to 32bit hosts. For SONAR X3 and older run the installer, choose the 64bit option, advanced install and select the 64bit plug-ins to install. Newer versions that included this plug-in have it in the SONAR installers itself so, the 64bit DAW must be installed to get this and the other "half rack" plug-ins that came from Project 5.
  5. If there is a chance a collection of tracks and plug-ins will get used in more that one project, I create a track template. Saves a lot of repeat typing and setup.
  6. If this helps, the way I got around the port issue was using an FX Chain see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3768664 I have not messed with VCV Bridge in some time but this trick still appears to work.
  7. Not sure if it is worth the effort. The VCV Bridge is a temporary solution introduced a little over a year ago. It is not really supported by the VCV developer. There is a VST version of of VCV Rack based v0.6 that works with CbB called VeeSeeVST Rack (the kvr thread has links to the development on GitHub). It has most of the free modules (although a few are missing such as NYSTHI and Vult). It also does not have any of the paid modules. Pretty sure development stopped with VCV Rack v1.0 was released. Still may be a better plug-in solution for now.

  9. The web based DAW and social media site were part of BandLab before they acquired Cakewalk software. Since the purchase they have invested quite a bit of time and money developing Cakewalk by BandLab It appears that they intend on keeping it around for some time.
  10. No While markers do not directly affect export, they may provide landmarks to make a time-based selection for export. Other ways to make a time-based selection for export were recently discussed in this thread The links in the post point to the French documentation. To change a link from the French documentation to English modify the Language in the url from 2 to 3. For example, this French help url http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=2&help=ControlBar.10.html is modified to http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=ControlBar.10.html for the English version.
  11. Assuming the drum map was saved as a preset, set the MIDI track output to the drum map This shows how to add a drum map to a MIDI track using its output drop down and an instrument track using the output drop down on the MIDI tab in the track inspector.
  12. I don't have the plug-in. My guess it the plug-in has more than one stereo output. If this is the case then it is up to you whether to use multiple instances of the plug-in or not. May to to experiment with a single instance with multiple MIDI/audio tracks and multiple instances of the plug-in and see which method (or combination of both methods) works best for you.
  13. I have no idea what plug-in you are looking for but google is your friend. I would start the search with "kick vst"
  14. Here is an instrument track being split Synths may be added to a project using an instrument track, audio+MIDI tracks or no tracks at all. Audio and MIDI tracks may be added at any time and connected to a synth. An instrument track is really just a special presentation of an audio and MIDI track. The gif above shows what happens after running "Split Instrument Track" - the audio and MIDI track that make up the original instrument track are revealed. Now add more audio and MIDI track as needed. The solo problem mentioned in the OP will be gone. When adding new synths to a project If using the Add Track menu instrument tab, there is an advanced option to "Split Instrument Track" All the other methods to add synths use the Insert Soft Synth Options dialog which has even more track options. An instrument track may be split anytime. An audio+MIDI pair may be made into an instrument track as long as they are the only tracks pointing to a plug-in in the synth rack. The option to make an instrument track is in the same place as the "Split Instrument Track" except it only appears in audio and MIDI tracks that complete a path to a plug-in in the synth rack.
  15. This is true, however; there are several updates every six month period. Updating renews the activation too. One can choose not to update but will still need to re-activate at least every 6 months.
  16. The KB article linked above is the best way to handle drum synths that do not automatically populate note names (AFAIK, only FXpansion drum plug-ins and Cakewalk Session Drummer implement VST note names properly) but it is possible to change the keyboard to display note names. Right-click on the keyboard to display the Note Names dialog, then click "Use these Note Names Instead" to activate the drop down. There is no predefined AD2 entry so you will either need to create one or select General MIDI Drums and change AD2 to use the CM drum map. To create an AD2 entry for this drop down requires updating master.ins by - adding data to the ".Note Names" - data in this section look like [AD2 Standard] 3=Ride 2 CCPos Shaft<->Tip 4=Ride 1 CCPos Shaft<->Tip 5=Snare CCPos Closed [Br] 6=Snare CCPos Op<->Sha 7=CC Hihat Shaft 8=CC Hihat Tip 9=CC Hihat Bell ... 101=Flexi 3 Hit A 102=Flexi 3 Hit B 103=Flexi 3 Hit C 104=Flexi 3 Hit D and adding data to the ".Instrument Definitions" - which would look like this [AD2] Control=AD2 Standard Patch[*]=1..128 Key[*,*]=AD2 Standard Drum[*,*]=1 Of course all the other notes between 9 and 101 need to be defined in ".Note Names" The downside of using the Note pane and note names is it must be set every time when entering the PRV. When a drum map is used, every time the drum track is opened in the PRV, it knows to use the drum map.
  17. Real-time export is rarely necessary. Most plug-ins can handle fast export/bounce. Next time try freezing the track.
  18. First select the tracks to export. When exporting all tracks use CTRL+A. Then set the time range. If the export starts at the beginning of the project all that needs to be set is the end. To set the end, move the Now marker to the "end" of the project and either hit the "Set thru=Now" button in the Select Module (B in the image below) or use the Edit > Select > "Thru=Now" menu option To change the export start is similar except position the cursor where the selection should start and use "Set from=Now" (A in the image above) or Edit > Select > "From=Now" Both start and end time may also be set using Edit > Select > By Time... or by or click-drag across the timeline. All links in this post go to the French documentation.
  19. Markers don't mean anything to the export process. When exporting without selecting time range, the export should run to the last event in the project. With fast export enabled, empty space at the end of project may not be noticed until the export is played back. When fast export is disabled, this space may be noticed during export because of the time it takes to reach the last event. A couple of ways to avoid unexpectedly long exports: Always make a time-based selection to export Clean up the end of the project - usually this may be done by positioning the cursor at the "end" of the project, selecting everything to the right and deleting it. Sometimes old templates have data which cannot be deleted. In this case, consider rebuilding the template.
  20. What you are looking for is called Cakewalk by BandLab. This product resembles SONAR. The web-based DAW and social media site are different parts of BandLab. The installation instructions for Cakewalk by BandLab are here. Follow the "If you are installing from BandLab Assistant" instructions. BandLab Assistant is the tool supplied by BandLab to install/update and activate Cakewalk By BandLab on your PC. Installation and activation does require the PC to be connected to the internet but once activated, the only time the PC will need to be connected to the internet is to update and/or re-activate. Updates happen on a regular basis. More frequently than the the 6 month activation period. The product is re-activated every update.
  21. That's fine. There is no requirement to have to have multiple instances of the plug-in. Just avoid using instrument tracks when the plug-in has more than one audio or MIDI track. Instrument tracks were intended for synths using one audio and one MIDI track. An instrument track is not a base track type in CbB. It is a combination of an audio track and a MIDI track. A complete synth routing is possible with either an instrument track or an audio+MIDI track pair. CbB does not prevent adding tracks to a plug-in after it is setup with an instrument track but a better multi-track experience is possible when the instrument track is split into its underlying audio and MIDI tracks.
  22. When using multiple MIDI tracks to the same plug-in, it is best to avoid using an instrument track. Split the instrument track. In fact, CbB does not permit creating an instrument track after multiple MIDI tracks are assigned to the same plug-in
  23. There is no need to wade through the automation drop down to set up automation. Enable write automation, start the transport and move the control(s) to automate. Label the automation lanes as needed.
  24. Only BandLab knows the plan for the assets they purchased from Gibson. The development staff is pretty small and have been concentrating on CbB development. There was talk after the acquisition about releasing some other products but there has been no mention about it in some time. AFAIK, BandLab cannot just give away or sell old Cakewalk products, they did not purchase the company. At a minimum, the products must be re-badged. For now, to augment CbB look to third party offerings. There are thousands of them.
