  1. 😁 Hey strummy ! The results are in and You have just Won the highly coveted # 251 slot on Kenny's Rolling Stone list by a crushing landslide of twice the votes to the nearest competitor . Congratulations my friend Kenny
  2. I need to come back later and back track on some posts I have just skipped over , in the mean time I have strong feelings about a few excluded guitar players ... George Benson should have been on the list .I don't know what they were thinking excluding him . Wes , and Grant Green were early influences for him yet George took it to a whole other place . Joe Pass not included in the list ! are you kidding me ? Back then the only real emerging innovator on solo jazz guitar was Lenny Breau .....he was a hidden treasure ...very few players knew who he was ...When Joe came out with The Virtuoso series of records his recordings of solo unaccomplished jazz guitar playing literately created a whole new listening experience for fans of Jazz Guitar . Like AndrΓ©s Segovia he created a whole new place for the guitar in guitar history . I feel very fortunate to have met him back then and I hung out with him often . He mentored me ...Thank You Joe ! I happen to think Al Di Meola could have easily earned a place on the list had the R S writers took a little Vaseline rubbed it on their necks and pulled their heads out of their butts ...they could have left one of the modern mini skirted bad girl Hoochie coochie mamas off the list to make a place for him When Al Di Meola hit the scene with Chick Corea and Return to Forever back in the 70's man oh man .....the ensemble playing in RTF was seriously off the charts and up until that point even though we had great fusion guitar players in that era ( Holdsworth , Abercrombie , Connors ) Al's playing in RTF occupied a whole other place in fusion because he had the ability and chops to have played effortlessly accurate at crazy tempos all the guitar parts that were not improvised / integral parts of Chicks compositions ....Then when you add Music like this he did from the 70's how can anyone say he doesn't deserve to be on the list .... PS I understand that not every one is into this sort of music but hey I am ( or I was ) Kenny
  3. Knopfler should have gotten a much better placement on the list then what they gave him . Wow ! short and sweet huh! Are you saying a well placed swipe w a zacto knife aimed at the writers sack would have solved most of the errant rankings of this list 🀣 It was about a half hour after Manny's Music had closed and I was organizing a few things in the guitar dept . I got finished up and came around the guitar counter and there he was 🀩 Jeff Beck ! I stood there face to face with him at eye level and then I froze ...I couldn't move a muscle or even get a word out as I was frozen just like Bambi in the head lights . Jeff actually put a little smile on his face I think he thought it was a little funny . To this day , Jeff Beck is the only guitar hero I ever met in real life who struck me totally speechless .. all the best , Kenny

  9. πŸ˜… Ladies and gentleman the results have come in from our secret forum members voting list to determine who is #251 ! It seems we have a 5 way tie between bapu , strummy , grem, telegump and craigb πŸ˜‚ Kenny
  10. I hear you loud and clear .πŸ˜€ I say we use water pistols and foam nun-chucks....we don't people around here to get hurt . Yeah + 1 πŸ˜€ Where is AndrΓ©s Segovia ? Wait we have a garbled transmission coming in . Apparently his calling plan on the other side of life is an Ouija Board currently in use by all the great classical guitar players that got ghosted by the list ... Greetings and salutations my fellow guitar players ! It is with great anguish , sadness and a heavy heart I come to you to express my personal dissatisfaction on not having made the 250 Greatest Guitarists of all times by Rolling Stone list . The simple truth of the matter is although I have made great strides in Classical Guitar music many of my contributions to the genre of classical guitar have been overshadowed by a few simple facts . Younger people back then seemed to have been intensely motivated by the sexual revolution that had is roots in the mid to late 60's all through out the 70's . Back then if you were a student in Jr High School , you had to be able to play Stairway To Heaven , Smoke on The Water, Jumping Jack Flash and Free-bird , if you couldn't play any of these songs on the guitar correctly you had to bring your mom or your sister to The Prom. To add insult to injury people held a notion of a body image that was impossible even for the musicians of today to maintain once McDonald's and fast food rose in popularity ... Take a good look at me in this picture ! Do you honestly think I could have pulled of spandex and frilly tank tops whilst doing Pete Townshend wind mills on my classical guitar ? Can you Imagine me slinging my guitar so low that even Jimmy Page would be impressed ? Sheesh the one and only time I tried to do a Hendrix I played my guitar with my teeth and they fell out into the guitars sound hole . I was so embarrassed because I had to stop the concert and shake my guitar to smithereens trying to fish my teeth out in front of a sold out house . I should have just lit my guitar on fire like Jimi ! Apparently my "distinguished looks" did not jive well with the " 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time article by Rolling Stone " Kenny
  11. To get some satisfaction on this topic I'm thinking we may have a multitude of choices here ... #1, We can break out into a full out John Wayne bar room style fight where everyone is getting hit with chairs stools and punches 🀣 at least they looked like they were having fun and nobody got hurt ( it seems ) or #2 , We can do something like a David Letterman top 10 countdown list as individuals where we post what we think the top 10 in that list should be . or #3 . Maybe you have your own Ideas and love for players that have nothing to do with the players mentioned in the article , They might not be known yet you have held a life long musical connection with them and their music . Tell us who they are .... Kenny
  12. πŸ˜… I decided to start this thread because I got PO'ed myself after I found a few of my favorite guitar players not even listed . Yep the BS runs deep in this article ....relevant ? yeah maybe a truer context. Yet some how the greatest guitar players of all time may be the ticket for getting magazine sales ... # 70 Django Reinhardt Yes I'm having a hard time understanding the rankings myself ...there seems to be no objectivity in this article whatsoever .... I'm still looking to find George Benson in there ... all the best, Kenny
  13. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-guitarists-1234814010/andy-summers-3-1234815076/ Lets hear what you think . all the best , Kenny
  14. I have sold dozens of desirable guitars and amps over the years once I found the honeymoon was over. (Or in some cases I might have needed the money ) I honestly don't think one size fits all and I feel it is important to open oneself up and find out first hand what may work best for you and if it don't work out send it off to someone whom it may work out much better for . In addition to that , I needed to take a good hard look at what gear I was buying and using based on the fantasy of emulating my guitar heroes. Thankfully that phase ended about 20 years ago for me.I don't care what guitar , amp ,or pedal any one uses including that modern blues guitar dude Joe Banana ( sp ) ? I heard he bought up in bulk lots of the available vintage guitars and amps and got Epiphone to reissue some of those instruments using his name. Now they charge more for them today then what they cost back in the day . I'm sure there a few that are nice ...buy hey talk about a racket Having said that ! I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to have both experimented and discover first hand what works best for me and what doesn't .... all the best, Kenny
  15. No More Banana Pie for U! until you learn how to engage your loved ones in public with the proper manners and courtesy ! Kenny
  16. I heard after he loosened her dress and placed her zipper in his mouth for safe keeping , A group of real jealous monkeys wouldn't stop reminding him that She is so out of his league it's ridiculous.....So Yeah ! I get it now .... Of course he didn't want to hear what they had to say about it . Either way he lucked out big time ! Here she is waiting for him 😍 Kenny
  17. I don't miss my Old Marshall , I can get by when I play out using a 1966 Fender Vibrolux Reverb or a Rivera Fender Super Champ ! BTW , Normal volume on a Marshall is 10 🀣 Kenny
  18. Whats the deal with this monkey ! He has the pull tab of somebodies zipper in his mouth and he don't want to hear about it ? Kenny
  19. Yes I have a plan ! It's called " Say Hello to my little friend " If that fails I still have The Chunkendales to fall back on Kenny
  20. Yeah ! everything I ever posted 😜 Kenny
  21. I know these are nice guitars , yet there are days when I like to play guitar only in my boxers . On the days when I'm doing laundry..... I go commando "Kenfucius say " It is one thing to be hung like a mosquito . It is a whole other thing to remove all doubt ... Kenny
  22. Here we have it folks ! The 2023 winner of the all you can eat pickles , beer, and ice cream diet ..... 😁 Kenny
  23. My very first top notch guitar I bought from We Buy Guitars in NYC . A 1960 Gibson ES 335 in Cherry Red w PAf pickups and custom birds inlay 'd on the finger board ... The Guitar had belonged to Henry Gross and Henry was standing right there talking with a We Buy owner when I checked it out his former guitar ...they both even laughed .... After I played it I told them I needed to walk away and think about it ... An hour later I came back and bought it πŸ˜ƒ It cost me $599.00..... this was in the 70's .... Nowadays an all original Gibson 1960 ES 335 dot marker w PAF's fetches .... Low price 40 plus grand ,.... Mid price 50 grand and they go up as high up as 100 grand ... It is not even about the money for me as I have owned dozens of guitars that wound up being worth that much and then some once the vintage guitar prices exploded This was all done at a time when you could buy a brand new Les Paul Custom for a Grand ....or just a little north of that .... I made a stupid move and traded it for a one of a kind Vulcan Guitar that was built for Peter Frampton ....The Luther couldn't comp him since just in materials alone he was into a few thousand so I took a chance and traded my ES for it .... That's the one that got away folks ...It has been over 40 years. I have tried to forgive myself for that . Some days I can ...some days I cant ....waaahhhh .... If anyone here is listening ! I will gladly pay you the money to get my old guitar back on Tuesday if I decide to play the lotto and win . all the best , Kenny
  24. This year I let a few things go . A super rare 50 watt 2 X12 Marshal combo , a Vintage Modified Jaguar , a Washburn J-4 ( Howard Roberts Inspired Jazz Box ), and a smoking hot Dearmond MT 75 T, Every thing I just listed I had for more than 10 to 15 years plus w the exception of the Jaguar .... The Marshal I had since 1986...so yeah I can feel the OP 's pain , all the best , Kenny
