  1. I do listen to Zappa but probably consider the song inspired by They Might Be Giants and Neal Morse (Spocks Beard). Jim
  2. When my daughter said she needed to do a music video, I told her I have the perfect song. She did all the camera angles and video editing. She had 16 video tracks to sync up and edit. Took her all day to do the editing. She also had to cut down the song to be under 4 minutes as the full song is just over 5 minutes in the length. Jim
  3. My daughter had to make a music video for her Video Production class so she decided to film one of my original numbers. Her instructor commented that she has a strange dad. I don't know why she said that as I feel quite normal. Here is her hard work: Jim
  4. The CC1 programming in GPO was caused by a limitations in Kontakt 2 at the time GPO was created. CC1 is more than an expression controller. It also does filtering to change the brightness of the instruments. Jim
  5. Many of the Personal Orchestra instruments require CC1 levels to be set before playing or you won't hear any sound. I always put an initial CC1 volume level before the first note in each track. Jim
  6. The Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C Blackout case is an excellent case. We just received 2 AV systems where I work using these cases with the Noctua cooler. Things are dead silent. Wish I had this case for my DAW system. Jim
  7. My brother lives in Laughlin but travels to California to buy his pot as it's way more in Nevada. They tax the crap out of it. We noticed how expensive all the buffets are now. The days of the cheap buffets are gone. BTW, we have a timeshare that is a block off the strip and it averages about $100 per night with our maintenance fees and taxes. Much cheaper than getting hotel rooms plus it is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with kitchen and living room and about 1,300 sqaure feet. Jim
  8. I had a couple Samsung SSD's that I thought were bad. Samsung replaced one and a couple months later it failed again. Then another drive started failing hooked to the next SATA port. The SSD's worked fine with no errors on an external drive bay. Turned out that SATA 3&4 ports were bad on my motherboard. I was due for an upgrade so I replaced the CPU and motherboard almost 2 years ago. The same drives that I thought were bad, are working fine now. I put the motherboard and CPU in my son's computer and it has been working fine as long as the the 2 SATA ports aren't used. Jim
  9. Velocity on the majority of the instruments changes the how hard the attack is. This works better on some instruments than others. GPO used flex envelopes to accomplish this. Also, there is some filtering occurring when you raise up CC1 (or CC11) with the instruments getting brighter as you raise it. I recommend riding CC1 constantly to give the instruments more life. Jim
  10. My 'Trekkie' kids and I are hooked on The Orville. Even my wife likes it! Jim
  11. GPO was originally programmed to set the levels in the mixer and then control dynamics with CC1. Attacks are controlled with velocity. There was no CC11 expression control. It was added later so you could use either CC1 or CC11. They both do the same thing. Jim
  12. You probably have some frequencies that the bass is masking. You may want to look at something like Izotope's Neutron which will show the frequencies that the bass may be interfering with other instruments. For example, it may be have to much energy at the same frequency as the kick drum. Usually you would notch out this frequency which will make the kick stick out more. You may also have some frequencies interfering with the guitars and keys. I had a mix that the bass would disappear as one of the synth was playing notes down in the same area. I have to roll off the low frequencies on the synth. Sometimes when I solo my bass it sounds like crap by itself but sounds great in the mix. Jim
  13. I'm afraid to see pictures of myself especially in the '80s. Jim
