I should add that at least one user here on the forum is getting results that "blow away" his RME UCXII.
(we are talking about the Zoom 32bit 232 here)
It has resolved all the "issues" he was having, and I'm happy for him!
But, for me?, I'll stick with 48/24...

Hey, coming around here from Google because I've narrowed down that this is pretty much the same issue I'm having. A lot of times, even when the projects aren't very heavy, when using Addictive Drums 2 it will just cause Cakewalk to start crackling out of nowhere and then the whole thing will just crash. Sometimes the audio will dropout completely (though there's no error message like a dropout normally would show, and the transport continues to move, but the sound will be gone). Bypassing all FX for some reason will have the audio playback again but oftentimes that will also start to crackle out and then the program will crash entirely. Again, no error message, just...poot. Done, closed, no message. Just complete CTD. But the culprit in every case is Addictive Drums 2. I never had this happen with Sonar Platinum which I finally just switched over from in the summer of 2022. Worth noting I'm using my interface's (Clarett 2pre) integrated ASIO, so that's of zero help either. I'm not stupid.

I made a thread about this a while again, and Bandlab's useless support was just giving the basic cut and dry copy-paste answer about audio dropouts and how it's probably just that my top shelf computer "just isn't powerful enough" or some stupid crap like that, the same ***** answer you'd get when trying to Google anything like this because search engines are useless nowadays and SEO and AI has ruined the internet entirely. And they really want us to start paying for Cakewalk again? Come on now.

Maybe you need a 7 year old computer from one of the lower shelves like I have....

Cakewalk loves to require authorization every so often to continue using it's product!  I'm staying away from it for now on until they have something I can buy once and only worry about a one time authorization!

Or maybe someone can redirect me a way to buy the full version before it became Bandlab's?

    Welcome to 2023.

I thought that way more than a decade ago, when it was more common for developers to not have anything setup so customers could easily re-download libraries, but in the last decade its become the norm for developers to allow customers to re-download libraries on demand, at any time at no cost. Offhand from developers I have libraries from or are fairly well known that let you re download for free on demand include NI, Orange Tree Samples,  Toontrack, XLN, SoundIron, Impact Soundworks,  8Dio,  e-instruments, Kirk Hunter Studios, Karanyi, Musical Sampling, MNTRA, Audio Ollie, Xperimenta Project,  Waverinner Audio, Minimal Audio, Loot Audio libraries,  Simple Samples,  Straight Ahead Samples. Have Audio, Sonora Cinematic, Handheld Sound, Majetone, Red Room Audio, Spitfire,  VSL, Orchestratools, Splash Sound, Sound Dust, Edu Prado, Hideaway Studios, Muletone Audio, Rigid Audio,  Triple Spiral Audio, Virharmonic...even Pianobook. You get the picture. For the past decade, most developers have moved to having systems that allow customers to re-download at no cost (I've consulted to more than two dozen sample and plugin developers over the years, so I'm pretty in tune with practices, plus I've spent way too much money on sample libraries and plugins). So it's caused me to no longer spend money and time on doing sample library backups. Now backing up Cakewalk projects is a different story.

This may come as a surprise to all you urban/ suburbanites, but not everyone has unlimited high speed internet even available to them let alone the time required to spend downloading multi GB of stuff.

    Ergo: hassle and aggravation.

The only difference with tapes was that you had almost no bugs and no software hassles (updates...). It was more straight forward.

Though I agree that it was really expensive and with less functionality! 😄

    You obviously were never there....

  6. You can put them anywhere you want. You have to tell CW where to look anyway.

However, I highly recommend practicing good hygiene and putting them all in the same place. C:\ windows\program files\steinberg\ vstplugins is a good choice since that's what Steinberg intended.

Fortunately, Steinberg fixed that issue with VST3.
