  1. Sparingly, but usually you get more power (CPU) for your money with the system upgrade (Mac, PC) than with the UAD purchase. However what you get with UAD is IMHO worth it. You can check here the UAD plugins Instances and DSP power usage + latency: and you can select the 96kHz chart at the bottom as well.
  2. Yes I also got the separate email about this. Any opinion on the Gravity you could share guys and gals?
  3. Neve 1084 is great, different flavour to the Helios 69 or Voxbox, which is extremely useful. No UAD SSL experiences to share. Zo, I run out of power with three Octos on a bigger sessions, but I work at 96kHz. The more the merrier 🙂. Then if you are ok with freezing or printing tracks, one Octo could suffice. Now you got me interested again in Oceanway, Grem!
  4. @tom Indeed, utterly unacceptable... I was almost one of those poor takers.... but managed to stop myself of buying the Modula at the release on the basis of that I made myself a promise, no matter what, I don't spend a penny on their stuff before I got those Acqua plugins working properly on a daily basis. The above mentioned ''Mac bug'' made me stick with the - no-buying resolution. I'm glad I did it, but feel sad for those who went for it. Isn't it enough that we are all the ''paying'' beta testers for many developers and even hardware manufacturers, so to furthermore, even be mislead about the pricing and product ''discount'' policies. Where's the moral these days... They should refund the difference to every and each one of the early adopters and top it up with the same additional amount in vouchers for future purchases!
  5. @Carlos Hi Carlos, yes it was just released couple of days ago. The initial full price on Modula (that included some acqua plugins) was whopping 999 $! Now it dropped to 599 $ for Modula - Bundle and the Lite version is the same technology, just without the Acqua plugins... 99$ isn't that bad, even-though I believe it should be included for free for the Mac users experiencing the problems! Modula is still in it's infancy and quite buggy, and the most interesting part - networking on slave computers - isn't yet implemented. I'm contemplating with the idea of 8 - 16ch of bi-directional Adat or AES EBU connection to the 2nd Mac which would run the ''Just plain'' Modula Lite with inserted Acqua plugins, but bugginess and non-availability of Modula-enabled plugins that I own are making me sit and wait... and enjoy my UAD plugins which aren't that shabby either 🙂
  6. Our partners at Quantica have just released Modula Lite, an affordable solution to unleash the power of the Acqua plug-ins you already own. https://quanticaaudio.com/ With the ongoing dsp allocation bug (dsp overrun) for all Acustica audio plugins on Mac platform (Logic and Cubase confirmed), where upon reopening the session (which uses Acqua or N4 plugins on Groups and Buses), session's dsp is suddenly wrongly allocated and processing memory runs out of the available dsp making the session unplayable... does the Modula Lite comes to the rescue? I've tested couple of months ago the Modula in this scenario and because the dsp processing for Acqua plugins is located within the Modula itself and not anymore within the Cubase session, it appears that the dsp is staying outside the DAW and it is therefore always properly allocated for the session in use, giving hope that this dsp overrun bug on Mac could finally have come to some kind of working solution. This ''Mac dsp overrun bug'' is the reason I've stopped using the Acustica's plugins for the most part in my sessions... Would love to hear your opinion, guys and gals, and the experience with this matter?
  7. Should be nice, and you can (with Thomann's 30 days return) send it back if it isn't good, which I doubt! Other great Neve comp HW is Vintage design VDC , now discontinued. I love mine! AML is from UK and Colin is a great guy himself. Many options. But the fact is Neve type comp (diode bridge) is just simply great!
  8. I have Elysia Xfilter & Xpressor 19' rack, like them a lot, use them on the drums/perc bus. Do you mean Heritage Audio Successor? No haven't tried it. Isn't Heritage Audio made in Spain? I heard of reliability issues. A pair of AML's 54f50 could do nicely instead :-).
  9. Indeed, same with SSL, Carlec is a bit better.. perhaps BBC broadcast had something to do with it. Also Studer, pretty good for the age 🙂 Millenia NSEQ is great, it was an instant buy, just like you've said... respectful of the source and very nice filters. I like to use in on the orchestral stuff a lot, when sound to start with is already there, just for the extra something... Massive Passive eq works there also, it brings the wood out from the Strings in an very cool way. I know, I run the HW mix bus, cannot live without it. Also I like the Bettermaker stuff and almost always 19' rack HW, as 500 series counterparts didn't ever impress me. AML 54f50 (500 series) being an exception, so far. Just remembered where I've got a cold feet about the Harrison 32 C. It was when I tested the 500 series module... it was kind of versatile, ok filters but nothing special at all, not sounding any better than some good plugins.
  10. Cool! I never did like the sound of the (brit modded) hardware units, so emulations don't interest me either. There are so many other great comps to have...
  11. Thanks James! Interesting, tried UAD EMT 140 few times and was always on the fence about it. It sounds ok but never took the plunge. I love the VSR S24 so much that don't know if it's needed. Also have quite a few Waves plugins laying around which are not even installed due to their Waves Update Plan coverage policy. Must check the Abbey Road Chambers, though. @Zo Have you used the real Harrison 32 c console Zo? They were all very heavily modified and a maintenance hogs. Might have to revisit the UAD emulation as I read somewhere that it was probably modelled on the Bruce Swedien's console. That one is classic. When tried briefly the UAD Harrison 32 it didn't do anything special for that material, preferred the Massenburg eq which is what I bought.
  12. @James Foxall Hi James, was it UAD EMT 140 or 250 he used? Capitol Chambers sits great in the mix. Waves, I kind of trying to avoid...
  13. Zo it's a great pick list. My personal experience Harrison, nah... Avalon or AMS Neve DFC where better choice here. API 2500 comp is great. Not a fan of Distressor either, especially if you have the 1176 on the list. Fatso or even Culture Vulture will both be cool addition. Lex 224 definite yes! But I thought Capitol Chambers was even more useful than Lex so got that first! If you have the Edu discount, you might look into the Relab VSR S24 (if you don't have it already)... Best dimension that can be had ITB from that gem. Combine it with AMS RMX 16 (see above post to Craig) and you're rocking. I'm talking from the vast experience with hardware boxes, Eventide, Lexicon Tc Electronic etc... Also I skipped on Vari Mu as I have the PA Iron & Shadow Hills Mastering comps. Massive Passive, Ampex 102, Manley Vox Box all great choices indeed! Just my 2 pennies...
  14. Hi Craig, yes Avalon is great. With AMS RMX16, I tried the trick what I used with the Hardware in the local studio when I was starting out... Put a small AMS Room or an Ambience in combination with a bigger (like 1.8 -2.0 sec) Lex reverb (224 being my favourite or 480). It gives that dimension nothing else does.
  15. Michael, I strongly suggest reading through this if you haven't already: https://www.audioanimals.co.uk/news/quick-tips/everything-you-need-to-know-about-universal-audiou-uad-sales-tips-tricks-sale-dates Also, I don't look at their retail prices. Buying first what you need the most, regardless of the discounts is how I go about it. Then when you've made your short list: Buy the most expensive ones from that list if buying ''in the package' 3+1 or similar'. But you know that sooner or later you'll part with your money and get pretty much everything you (hopefully) need. This is to be considered and if you can afford it somehow, right now is a great time to jump up to bigger bundles... that is if you REALLY need those additional plugins, now or in the nearest foreseeable future. Kind of wish that less is more, is the ultimate truth... Perhaps in production process, but not at the buying stage 🙂
  16. Bummer, sorry to hear that... I'm sure you've got plenty of other things to craft your art with. At the and of the day they are only just a tools. Taking time to build something with whatever you have at hand is more crucial .... Sometimes I go through my old stuff trying to find the forgotten tools, it usually ends up quite inspiring as well 😉
  17. @cclarry Are you getting it Larry? Looks very good, but lots of other options available. Thanks Larry & Zo for the heads up. Must demo it.
  18. Ok quick follow-up. Just checked shorts... IMHO the Spiccatissimo (Sautille Spiccato) is worth the price of admission for this library alone! All other stuff is an extra bonus :-). Very happy, thanks Fleer for the heads up!
  19. Grem, remember there's an EQ Only plugin Neve 1081 which is easy to be confused with the newly released Neve EQ & Preamp 1084 (Unison Channel): https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/channel-strips/neve-1084-preamp-eq.html
  20. Hi Grem, it is definitely a Unison channel... I don't use unison myself as I have only Satellites, but this is what I found on the Neve 1084 ch description at UAD web... Get the full character of the original hardware’s class-A, dual-stage mic preamp with Unison™ technology
  21. Yeah I was curious as the code for DFC was directly ported as on the original Film console. That had a great sound ( very surprising for the digital console), so on that basis demoed it... fell in love. Width is really great and a bit unique sounding. Actually, I stand corrected! Cheated a bit and fooled around, but back to me UAD momma!
  22. I thought the same, but heard some good stuff from this on this demo, so bit the bullet. Never enough strings here 🙂
  23. Sure Mesh, downloaded and extracted... will bring it into the session as I have an immediate need for the shorts and layering the longs... will keep you posted!
  24. Spot on Tommy, cannot agree more. When my honeymoon with UAD was over, all that has been left is a steady trusted - working relationship and one can only love the things that simply work and can be counted on - err working! Totally different experience with the Acustica stuff... I'm on the Mac, can't trust them in the heath of the session. They sound great but are extremely unreliable...
