  1. A few of us have encountered the unexpected crash when too many shortcuts (key bindings) are assigned to 'do nothing'. Following a clean windows install I wanted all CbB's default shortcuts to be wiped and start in effect with a blank template. Why? Because I like to assign my own shortcuts instead of the defaults. I managed to achieve this - see attached file. Having previously identified the codes for each keystroke, i.e. A, B, C, SHIFT+A, B, C and so on, I was able to assign key binding 1067 (do nothing) to all keys. The only exceptions are the default actions such as scroll lock (pause), RTZ (W), record (R) and one or two others. Sanity warning: Do NOT use this file unless you want to wipe ALL your existing key bindings. If you are sure, pop this file into your appdata/roaming/Cakewalk/Cakewalk Core folder. Then in CbB open Preferences, go to Customization - Keyboard Shortcuts and import. SECOND WARNING: This will wipe all your existing shortcuts. It may be a good idea to save them first! It was Astraios who pointed me in that direction after his creation of CALs to achieve the same thing. This is a different way of achieving the same result. CbB Do Nothing.kbn
  2. Scook, I have downloaded a couple of things from your page. Many thanks for the work you've put into this.
  3. Update. For various reasons I needed to do a clean Windows install and....ta da.....SampleTank now works as it should do in CbB. It obviously didn't like something in my system.
  4. Phew. Thanks for the help. I owe you....something....
  5. Hey abacab. Okay. This reminds me of that song that starts ' where do I begin?????' This gets more and more curious...... Opened your file successfully (several times, just to check). Hooray! Saved your file. Opened the saved file successfully. Woopee! Went back to my original project files (there were a few). Opened one, Cakewalk closed down with no minidump created. It doesn't hang, it just closes after it apparently seems to load the file. It does this for projects containing SampleTank outputting directly to hardware and also for those with metronome/preview/master buses. And it's the same behaviour whether it's running as vst2 or vst3. Opened my file again in safe mode. This time I answered yes to the questions about loading SampleTank and GroovePlayer. File opened successfully. That's a first - it hasn't done that before, Cakewalk would just close. Saved my file. Opened it normally. Project loads successfully. Fantastic! But what is going on? It seems that the first time my saved file is loaded it has to be in safe mode. Then when it is saved again there are no further problems with opening it. I'll settle for that. 🙂
  6. Oh thanks. I'm away from the studio but will try them tomorrow although I did intend outs go directly to hardware.
  7. Okay, final word on this. Reinstalled and I still have the same problem. So two possible workarounds:- 1. Open projects containing SampleTank in safe mode and choose not to load GroovePlayer. OR 2. Freeze SampleTank before saving. Project containing frozen SampleTank opens normally. Unfreeze. Very many thanks for everyone's help.
  8. Yes default template, no no metronome customization. I've sent you the two files.
  9. Interface is Yamaha Steinberg UR44. USB connection with its own ASIO driver. Sample rate is 96,000 Hz. It's an i8700 system with 2 x m.2 nvme drives and 32gb of RAM. Steps for CbB:- Load a blank project. Insert SampleTank as a VST Instrument with MIDI source track. Load sound and record on MIDI track. Save file as a normal Cakewalk project. Close CbB. Start CbB. Open SampleTank project file. Cakewalk attempts to load the project but just closes with no minidump. A similar project created in SPLAT will load without a problem in both SPLAT and CbB. Why? It appears that the SPLAT saved version doesn't include a reference to Cakewalk's GroovePlayer - that can be seen by opening the project file in safe mode. But once the SPLAT version is saved again in CbB it reverts to type, i.e. a safe start is needed to successfully open it - presumably because CbB now puts in the GroovePlayer reference. I should also say that when the project does successfully open in safe mode the project window defaults to quite a small size - presumably because it's in safe mode. The work-around for me is to simply start the project in safe mode.
  10. Appreciated. Final thoughts on this......I still can't generate a mididump because the program doesn't hang, it just closes. Interestingly, in my version of Sonar Platinum (Newburyport), SampleTank works as expected. No problems opening files.
  11. That's really helpful, thanks. I'll see what I can do with this and report back but don't wait up. Easiest way out is to ditch SampleTank as, for me, CbB is now very stable with everything else I use.
  12. So why would disabling this cause Sample tank to load normally?
  13. Oh, I didn't realise that was CbB safe mode. After using Sonar for years and years, it's probably a (my) memory thing. 😀
  14. Plugin Boutique have this on at £11.95 at the moment. UI is pretty dreadful but there's a lot there.
  15. When you open a Cakewalk project file, hit SHIFT+projectname and it may present options as per the screenshots below. No, Scook, it's not your error because it does appear as though your screenshot is exactly the same as mine! Which may explain why SampleTank's Groove Player (with a space between the words) still appears to be operative. But this is opening a file not CbB in safe mode. And another thing I have noticed is that when I do save a SampleTank project it does not always appear on the Start screen. However after opening it safely it then does. But when I then click on it in the start screen that also causes the crash.
  16. Oh thanks abacab. I should have said I only have the CS version of ST (trying it out) but everything is where you said it is. And I have now spotted that if you hover over the 3rd icon from the left just above the pitch and mod wheels and keyboard it actually comes up as Groove Player. I still can't get it to open a saved file correctly without disabling GP in safe start-up of ST. But when I insert ST as a softsynth in a project it loads and performs fine. And it appears GP works even though I choose not to load it. I haven't got any loops loaded so it's possible it won't play those but all drum and arpeggio patterns work as normal. Scook I didn't make myself clear, it wasn't CbB safe mode, it was opening the softsynth in safe mode (I think that's how it's described). CbB's metronome is working fine so I guess it can't be CbB's groove player. And I didn't know that factoid either.
  17. I've been having a look at SampleTank and noted the other threads here about crashing. My issue has been that it has loaded and worked fine in CbB and saved okay. However when trying to open the saved file CbB just closes down and doesn't generate a crash log. So, taking advice from previous posts, I reinstalled just the VST2 version, not 3 - no difference. Then did a 'safe' file open (hit shift and open) and interestingly two options came up. The first one asked did I want to load ST, I answered yes. The second asked did I want to open Groove Player. I presume Groove Player is part of ST? (That's my question) Anyway when I hit no to open groove player, the file loaded and operates as normal and I can't actually see what difference Groove Player makes. ST appears to be working normally.
  18. Really nice sense of space in the song, video cleverly edited together. And in double quick time. My (our) last one took 3 months! And yes it distracted from music creation. But you need image with music. Great job.
  19. Aahh, yes, Light My Fire, that intro. The animation was done in Reallusion's Cartoon Animator. Production in Filmora Pro. We hadn't done any before. Took about a month to learn the ins and outs of the software and then a couple more months to produce the animation. There's lots there that could be improved (you must have noticed) but there comes a point when you just throw your hands up and say we're done. Everyone's comments very much appreciated, thanks for taking the time to listen.
  20. Cheers. It used to be in our set back in the 70s along with one or two other originals we felt we could get away with. It was recorded originally at one of the then new 16-track studios, got sent away for production but the master got 'lost' somewhere along the way. We ended up re-recording it on 4-track and it just didn't sound the same. This version however gets somewhere near. The single sank without trace, sold around a thousand copies mainly at venues.
  21. Thanks, good to be cool at 70+ 😄
  22. Thanks for listening. Well you know what some drummers are like 😀 The cheezy organ comes from a combo of a 60s organ plus a leslied one from Roland Cloud. That was as close as I could get to the 70s Yamaha organ sound that we had. In the days we worked 300+ shows a year.
  23. Our first attempt at animation. Aaaagh!
