  1. I use midi channel 10 for drums from my external keyboard. My midi tracks in cakewalk are organised from 1 to 16 and track 10 is for channel 10 drums.
  2. Yes, got that on in the record section of preferences.
  3. Well.....that got me thinking why is there a record button in the take lane? David I did what you suggested but then my hi-hat recording after the bass drum just gets assigned to the bass drum take lane as well. If I hit the record button in the take lane the hi-hat is allocated there but that's when bass drum playback can't be heard. I'm not really looking for a solution, just interested to know why it's doing this. I think it's easier for me to record to separate tracks and not use lanes.
  4. Are there any shortcuts to access different lens?
  5. Okay, followed scook's step-by-step - it works. However......... Open new project Select MIDI track 10 with midi in/out enabled, echo on, sound-on-sound selected (my default option) Record bass drum to track 10. Expand track 10 to show take lane with bass drum. Add new take lane. Set to record. Bass drum isn't heard when recording hi-hat. On playback both bass drum and hi-hat are heard. The work-around is to follow scook's process or just use separate tracks.
  6. Thanks for checking that out. Suggests there's something not correct with my setup. More investigation.....
  7. Anyone? It's doing this consistently.
  8. Haven't really used take lanes before, just used lots of tracks. However thought I'd try it out. Recording a MIDI drum track from an external keyboard doing different bits as different takes, e.g. bass drum first, hihat second, etc. Using take lanes in just the one track, when I record the hihat I can't hear the bass drum during record. I've checked the correct preferences settings and there is no problem hearing the MIDI playback during record when bass drum is on one track and hi-hat is on another. Am I missing something?
  9. Well yes I can see your point. But for those of us wanting to create our own there are difficulties. I have used sonar since 2008 ish apart from a brief skirmish with Cubase. A re-designed shortcut user interface should be possible while maintaining an existing defaults option.
  10. Looks all German to me 😀 I think we have probably done this now! To summarise:- Shortcuts at present are illogically arranged, not user-friendly, and not all menu items and actions are available as shortcuts which hampers workflow.
  11. I am sure you will have seen this before, lifted from the old Cakewalk site. Cakewalk Default Kdbd Shortcuts.html
  12. 1. A blank canvass with no default shortcuts to enable user to input own shortcuts without fighting the defaults. 2. A complete rethink and re-design of how shortcuts work. A better understandable structure so that allocating a shortcut in global bindings applies to other environments where appropriate, i.e. track view, console view, etc. I like the way that instrument definitions can be edited in a text editor - could the same be done with shortcuts?
  13. It took me 90 'do nothings' to replicate the crash when Cakewalk closed without generating a logfile. Report sent to tech support as per scook's suggestions. Now trying to replicate other shortcut issues. I am also adding a feature request in Features and Ideas.
  14. Just in case anyone gets the wrong idea, I haven't got the hump about all this. It's just a quirk of what I think is a brill bit of software that I have used successfully for years. Does that make me a fan-man????
  15. Hi Astra-los. Yes I have and yes it did. Nightmare! I also recognise your use of n key. There's a certain randomness about it.
  16. Hmmm, I will double check again that I am doing all that, probably tomorrow now. But I still think there is some underlying issue. In any case the whole shortcuts interface seems designed to confuse imho
  17. I actually meant to quote this when I said I understand. Thanks scoop.
  18. Well I would like that feature! But the added difficulty for me is that saving them and applying them in a project does not appear to work properly. Another project then defaults back to a mixture of mine and default shortcuts.
  19. I have never fully understood the purpose behind lenses. Maybe someone will enlighten me. But in any case lenses are set to none in all my projects and templates.
  20. Agreed 100%! I knew when I ditched Cubase that this was Cakewalk's big drawback for me and sure enough it has caused me no end of frustration. I would just like a completely blank keyboard shortcuts template so I can put my own in which then actually work. It would also be good to have some additional shortcuts added which would really aid workflow. As an example, you can create a shortcut to create a Melodyne region, there is no shortcut for closing it. It's also frustrating that you can enter a shortcut in eg the global section, and the same action in eg track view is not replicated automatically. The way it is at the moment it's not very logical. And to me it's unfathomable how it sometimes does and doesn't accept a customised shortcut.....and then after a while it works for no apparent reason. And I agree the difference between how they appear with no project loaded and then with a project loaded is baffling. It appears as though different projects save at least some shortcuts to the project not to Cakewalk itself. Totally mysterious!
